Publisher's Summary

Our world has diluted the meaning of friendship, but the reality is, there’s nothing like the sustaining strength of true-blue, forever friends. Still, many people are convinced that they’ll never find such lifelong connections—or that they don’t need them. In this encouraging audio book, best-selling author and psychologist John Townsend delivers hope and help for making these relationships a reality—and for making them even better if you’ve already got a “bestie.” His eight principles for building the very best kind of friendship, along with his shared experiences within his own friendships (including mistakes he’s made), will move every listener to aspire to deeper connections and to stay the course when challenges arise. Townsend’s simple but profound concepts are sure to transform listeners’ relationships and keep them from missing out on one of life’s greatest and most essential joys: the joy of having a best friend.

Met me where my need is

I'm not very good at being or making friends. John's book gave me some easy to understand tools for how I can do this.

Could be MUCH shorter

Keep up with your friends that matter most. Know when to let go and when friendships naturally seperate. Get out of yourself but also know when you need your privacy.

This is the basics of the book. The rest of the book are those things elongated.

Very current and practical for our electronic age

Would you listen to How to Be a Best Friend Forever again? Why?

Already listened to it twice. Going back for third time and probably a fourth so that I don't miss a thing. Addresses so many areas of my life. So many questions answered on the different types of friendships and the level of involvment for each. He answers and addresses things that are not really discussed in every day life. Very good stories on various friendships he's had personally and others he's counseled with. Also helps in marriage relationships and how friendships are an important part of our lives. So practical and insightful.

This is a Christian based book.

What would have made How to Be a Best Friend Forever better?

If it were honest from the beginning for saying how it would be be speaking about The Body Of Christ.

Any additional comments?

This is Bible based. If quotes from the bible tune you out, you won't get much out of this. My beliefs about Jesus have nothing to do with what I thought this book was about.

Great guide for BEING the best kind of friend

I almost didn't purchase this audio book due to several reviews stating that it was not thorough enough or did not deal with the potential problems that friendships could encounter. While those reviews do have some weight to them, keep in mind that this is a 2-hour long book, not an exhaustive counseling session between you and your feuding friend. Every friendship experiences unique trials and conflicts.

This book cuts to the core of it and says, "This is how you can BE a best friend forever," not "This is how you can fix every friendship problem ever." Though after listening to the book within a two-day period, I must admit that if I were to apply everything I learned, I could fix my current friendship dilemmas and propel my good friendships to greater depth.

You can never change your friends and should not endeavor to do so by reading this book. You can, however, change the type of friend that you are, and change your mindset about the type of friend that you seek, and in turn, you can have friendships that are worthwhile and long-lasting.

This was such a short and enjoyable read that I know I will be reading it again soon.

way too Christian centered

I couldn't listen to this book even though I'm motivated to do so because many of the core references and anecdotes to support points are biblical. I don't have any big issue with Christianity, but I certainly don't need any more inculcation then I've already had to endure.

Truth. Grace. Home.

I've been listening and reading this book for awhile (over several months) but finally stopped and committed to finish the book. It came at a point of where I have been struggling with some close friends for awhile, now it is a pivotal point. Dr. Townsend is vulnerable and graceful. He gives variety of perspective and stories and content of how to have meaningful and lasting friendships.

Important information read too fast

I gave this a two because it is read too fast. The cadence needs to be a bit slower because it is good information that needs to be taken in and digested. When I slowed the reading down, the author sounded drunk. I just could not listen as it was to frenzied of a pace.

Another thought-provoking book from JohnTownsend

The book has a lot of good stuff to say about friendship, explaining what the research says about the value and importance of strong close friendships in anybody's life, and encouraging readers to be intentional about building and maintaining friendships as they are about building and maintaining a career or marriage or any other important part of life.
The performance is mostly good. He sounds a little stilted for the first few pages - it's obvious that he's reading rather than speaking - but don't let that put you off, because he soon gets into his stride and starts to sound much more natural and like the way he speaks when giving talks.

Great voice but a bit obvious

I like the narrator, I've listened to other works of his, but this book seemed too obvious to me. 'Best friends will have similar core values, to be a bbf you need regular contact, and so on and so forth. It's still a sweet book but maybe not for me.
