Publisher's Summary

A darkly humorous debut novel that follows a cunning antihero as she gets her revenge

When I think about what I actually did, I feel somewhat sad that nobody will ever know about the complex operation that I undertook. Getting away with it is highly preferable, of course, but perhaps when I’m long gone, someone will open an old safe and find this confession. The public would reel. After all, almost nobody else in the world can possibly understand how someone, by the tender age of twenty-eight, can have calmly killed six members of her family. And then happily got on with the rest of her life, never to regret a thing.

When Grace Bernard discovers her absentee millionaire father has rejected her dying mother’s pleas for help, she vows revenge and coldly sets out to get her retribution—by killing them all, one by one. Compulsively thrilling, Bella Mackie’s debut novel is driven by a captivating first-person narrator who talks of “self-care” and social media while calmly walking the listener through her increasingly baroque acts of murder. But then, Grace is imprisoned for a murder she didn’t commit.

Outrageously funny, compulsive, and subversive, How to Kill Your Family is a wickedly dark romp about class, family, love … and murder.

Author had to speak her mind in the story

Author had to speak her mind in the story about her very political opinions. Orange man bad. Should have left that out. I STOPPED listening immediately. Im not prone to either side but politics should be left out of a story especially if its not a political book. Most people listen to books because they are sick of listening to politics. So if you are like me this book is disheartening to say the least.

Twisted and Funny

I really enjoyed how this story was written to feel like the narrator was speaking directly to you. I like that if felt as if you were talking to a friend and that you could hear the authors voice in this as well. Decently dark with a nice twist, well done!

Somewhat predictable but a fun read nonetheless

The author is funny and entertaining but the story is a bit predictable. Everything just simply works out for the main character. But with that said, I did enjoy the writing and got through the book rather quickly because I enjoyed listening to it so much. Oh, also the reader was amazing! All in all, it is worth a read as it will entertain you.

Not titillating

A decently paced book - had some good waves of excitement. The ending left me feeling a lack of closure.

I like when things come full circle. Without giving anything away I feel that two characters could have met or at a minimum had an exchange.

Really enjoyed this!

I really enjoyed this story and both narrators were great. The only complaint is for the editing team. There were moments where the pacing was off, but overall still a five star story!

Hard to rate this one

Great performance for Grace. I enjoyed this one up until the ending which is why I struggled to give it a rating but I guess that's expected with the character!
