Another Masterpiece from Ms Byrne and D. Perkins!
A woman with a past is thrown into the arms of a Duke in need of a wife.
Piers to Alexandra, final chapters:
“I cannot, will not allow you out of my sight into a world where you might be taken from me. You don’t know what it will cost me Alexandra. To love you like this, it consumes me, it obsesses me. You’ve somehow, in less than a bloody fortnight become more integral to my sustenance than the very air I breathe or the water I drink. All I’m asking is for you to have mercy on me wife. If there is a battle to fight, a villain to face, I beg you to allow me the honor because the cruelest thing you could do is to sentence me to a world without you in it. Promise me damn it.”

I loved this story
I enjoyed this book from the beginning to end. I must preface this review by saying after listening to the Victorian Rebel series I was prepared for Ms. Kerrigan's style, I preordered this book knowing that if nothing else the plot would be interesting
I was not disappointed. I was hooked from the beginning.
Alexandra's story was heartbreaking from the beginning. However with strength and remarkable courage she faced her fears. I have to admit that I wish she had told Piers from the start what was going on... but then we would not had the enjoyment of learning how he came to understand Alexandra and the profound pain and shame that a women feels after being violated sexually. It was very difficult for me to get through the prologue and I believe most listeners would agree on this point.
I don't think the identity of the blackmailer was too obvious and there is an interesting twist that I am sure most listeners will enjoy.
This book was neither too long or too short but was just right. The narrator was good and the storyline compelling
This book is certainly worth a credit.

*SPOILER* You should know before you read.
So sad but I did not like this one. It starts off with the lead lady getting RAPED! There was no disclaimer about this in the description. I have seen other books giving you the heads up that there is a certain type of content that you may not want to hear. Sadly this one did not have it and in the prologue, there is a pretty descriptive scene of her being assaulted. Personally, I found it to be cringe worthy and I could not finish it. I lost all interest immediately so I returned the book.
If you must read on, maybe try starting at Chapter 1. I’m sure it should fill in the blanks along the way but you should skip the gruesome details in the prologue.

Fantastic
I am new to this author/narrator, but what a wonderful start. The story was perfect, real and well developed. The H/H are two lost souls that find each other and become better for their relationship. They both change and evolve, which is the most interesting aspect of the novel. I love when this happens in a natural and realistic way.
Both the main characters are smart and dynamic. They express real emotional trauma and have the standard human feeling of doubt, shame for past actions and hope for the future, but especially the idea that love , regardless of how damaged you are, can be achieved.
The heroine's traumatic past is very well written . she is not one of these perfect (beautiful, smart, spunky) heroine's that just bug me, as no one can be that perfect. She has flaws and is very complex. The same for the hero, no perfection there..he even chastises himself for being too self-absorbed (wow)! This could be the story of any couple trying to develop a relationship under real circumstances.
The mystery/suspense of the plot is exciting and you never guess until the end. This is a blend of all the great things you want in a novel and I can't express how much I enjoyed it. I would recommend it highly.
The narrator was very good and provided such a great performance, I kept forgetting that it was a male narrator doing the female voices. I thought I did not previously like Mr. Perkins narration, but I was wrong. I am going to be looking for him in the future. I am a new fan.

Was there a story?
Though the narrator was excellent, the story had so much sex written into it ( a sexually assaulted and traumatized protagonist learns to enjoy the act via her new husband’s prowess) that I became bored waiting for the characters to climax so the narrative could resume. A loosely contrived plot involving a mysterious blackmailer and close-calls via a hired assassin, this text just never really takes off. However, the characters definitely “get off” lol

An Absolutely Awesome Read !!!
This is one of the best audio books I have ever listened to. It was brilliant, romantic, and absolutely exciting. It had the right amount of splendid humour that tickled me to the point of bursting out in laughter a few times. I found that I couldn’t wait to find out what happened at the end almost as much as I didn’t want it to end. The suspense was really good.
The characters were lovable and well developed. The hero was every woman’s dream man, while you couldn’t help but love the heroine as well as her two best friends.
The story was exceptionally well written with a superb display of artistic description and historical revelations that I found quite interesting.
Last, but not least, the narrator did an awesome job; best narrator so far. He read so well, with the right amount of inflection and charisma that I was totally sucked into the story. Despite his sexy masculine voice, he still managed to do an impressive job with the female voices.
I didn’t want to reveal anything that would be a spoiler to any reader considering buying this audio book. However, please know that this book delivered in every way for me, and I would seriously recommend it.
This is my first time reading a book by Kerrigan Byrne, and it will certainly not be the last, as long as she continues to deliver as well as she has with this one. The voice of Derek Perkins will be a much anticipated, appreciated and generous bonus ;)

Good story
This was a great read/listen! We all know romances have happy endings, but there was a time when I really wasn’t sure how it was possible.
These books seem to start with horrific back stories, so beware the trigger warning for rape in the prologue. This book can be a bit dark as a result, but it’s an interesting, thought-provoking change from the lighthearted books you usually find in this genre.
I’m glad I listened to this instead of reading it because, as always, Derek Perkins makes everything sound amazing.

Absolutely brilliant
I loved every second of it. I couldn't stop listening. Really nice and steamy. The narrator Derek Perkins is brilliant I love his voice for the hero, it's so sexy. Now on to the next one, book 2, Cecelia's story.

Wow and more wow!
The book grabbed me from the first page and I couldn't put it down. If you loved The Victorian Rebels series, you'll love this too! I can't recommend it highly enough! 5*
I was worried that I had overdosed on KB as I really didn't like her second book from the Goode Girl series but I am delighted to say that she has not disappointed me at all.
KB always draws her heroes so beautifully and Piers is no exception. Although the typical Alpha, he has been scarred both mentally and physically but there is a touching vulnerability and warmth about him, which is so endearing.
I love how Piers, the Duke of Redmayne, meets Dr Alexandra Lane, a geogologist and very much a woman with her own mind, on the train platform with an out of control stallion.
Alexandra has a past which has tortured and traumatised her for 10 years which she tries to hide but finds herself blackmailed and is slowly running out of money.
Having been sent for by one of her dear friends to Scotland to attend a very unexpected wedding, she comes upon a way of solving all her problems and saving her friends.
This is the heartwarming story of how these two characters find and heal each other through all the secrets, distrust and danger that threaten them both and I can't wait to read the next book and find out what happens to Cecilia!
Derek Perkins was perfect as ever!

Skipped a few chapters!
An ok book. However, the internal monologue of the main characters are lengthy, suicide inducing and insufferable! I will not be reading anymore. Once you have read J. Garwood, something like this is extremely paltry.
