Publisher's Summary

A “must-read” (The Washington Post) funny and practical guide to help you find, build, and keep the relationship of your dreams.

Have you ever looked around and wondered, “Why has everyone found love except me?” You’re not the only one. Great relationships don’t just appear in our lives - they’re the culmination of a series of decisions, including whom to date, how to end it with the wrong person, and when to commit to the right one. But our brains often get in the way. We make poor decisions, which thwart us on our quest to find lasting love.

Drawing from years of research, behavioral scientist turned dating coach Logan Ury reveals the hidden forces that cause those mistakes. But awareness on its own doesn’t lead to results. You have to actually change your behavior. Ury shows you how.

This “simple-to-use guide” (Lori Gottlieb, New York Times bestselling author of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone) focuses on a different decision in each chapter, incorporating insights from behavioral science, original research, and real-life stories. You’ll learn:

  • What’s holding you back in dating (and how to break the pattern)
  • What really matters in a long-term partner (and what really doesn’t)
  • How to overcome the perils of online dating (and make the apps work for you)
  • How to meet more people in real life (while doing activities you love)
  • How to make dates fun again (so they stop feeling like job interviews)
  • Why “the spark” is a myth (but you’ll find love anyway)

This “data-driven” (Time), step-by-step guide to relationships, complete with hands-on exercises, is designed to transform your life. How to Not Die Alone will help you find, build, and keep the relationship of your dreams.

Not a good buy

The tone is immature and the perspective is narrow. Every few sentences jar the listener with increasingly dated pop references, "hashtag-tldr-beyonce-you-go-girl"-isms make up a significant portion of the audio. The author perspective is very bay area early thirties tech culture so if that doesn't speak to you you may have trouble getting to the message.

I'd like to give it more of a 4.5

I think that this is a great book for people in or seeking serious relationships, but some of the occasional jokes in the first quarter are geared more towards women. If you are a man this book won't help you much in terms of landing a date. All of the advice for getting dates from apps and websites are things I have found from some quick googling.. I think there should have been a bit more detail in and/or content for landing dates and less assumption that everyone has too many dating options. Most women on dating sites have a surplus of choices but I don't know many guys that do, including myself. I also think that there was too much content covering breakups. The relationship advice and practices are golden and the oratory performance is perfect. I think that if everyone used this book the divorce rate would be nearly non-existent in western society. I am very glad I listened to the whole thing.

Generational MUST READ.

I've been a lifelong skeptic, and this book completely changed my outlook on dating.

It’s the book I never wanted to admit (or thought) I needed…but I did. By Chapter 6 I was already able to identity my bad dating habits and see what's really holding me back. It’s never easy facing facts, especially about yourself - however Logan provides plenty of research from her years as a behavioral scientist to convince you that everyone can date, and everyone can end up in a successful long term relationship - you just have to put in the work (and maybe change your perspective).

Not only does she help you identify blind spots, she provides you with an action plan to get out of your own way. The book doesn’t guarantee a successful relationship, but it puts you in the right mindset to overcome roadblocks & provides you with the confidence (and data) to get out there... I’m actually really excited to put myself out there!

Stop looking for a new series on NFLX, read this book. It will energize you to make real positive changes.

I wish I read this in college vs my early 30s. Thank you Logan Ury.

A Must Read for Intentional Dating

I’m so glad I bought this book! Logan Ury is an incredible resource and provides great advice for creating and maintaining intentional romantic relationships. I really appreciate all the science backed studies and techniques she discusses and found all the examples she gave regarding her own relationships and her clients’ relationships super helpful. Dating in 2021 is different than it was 10 years ago and I appreciate her dialed in take on modern dating. Thank you Logan!

I didn’t realize I needed this book.

I was casually looking for a new time-passer in the audible collection. I didn’t even have a theme. Just browsed and then I found this. I’m a bit of an isolationist so the title grabbed my attention. Like all books that I commit to, I listed to the preview and the author who also performed the reading had a nice voice that was easy to listen to, unlike literally every other book I’ve listened to so far. Then she started getting in to the weeds and called me out on many of my life long traits. Such a great overall experience. Which it was a longer book.
