Publisher's Summary

Divorce is a lot like losing someone. It is the death of a marriage. It is a sheer and brutal act of abandonment. It is extremely personal. Even after the meanest separation or divorce that caught you off guard, you may achieve this level of self-acceptance and forgiveness. This doesn’t mean you deny what they did to you or run away from the pain. Instead, you allow yourself to experience it all—the guilt, shame, anger, and disappointment—and move through it.

Only once you have passed through the many emotional stages of a divorce can you allow a new life to unfold. If that’s how you’re feeling right now, this book is for you. In this book you'll learn the different stages of how to survive a divorce.

  • Divorce is an emotional roller coaster.
  • Sitting with your feelings to properly mourn your broken relationship.
  • When is the proper time to rebuild and reinvent.
  • The undeniable power of forgiveness.
  • When to seek support, socialize, and reach out.
  • Self-care--why you need it more than ever.
  • Reconnect with your passions and hobbies.
  • Recognize that life doesn't stop here; you will be ready to date again and have new beginnings.

Know that you will survive. It may take some time, but you will come out stronger, with a different perspective on life and what you look for in a partner. Some people will refrain from dating again after a divorce, understandably so, but don't lock that door. Leave it open just in case you decide you're ready. You deserve to be happy and in love again.

Refreshing to listen on a difficult time

Vanesa pieced together a great audiobook that can help with a difficult time in someone's life. Hailey Knoll does a very nice job narrating which I had an easy time listening to. Chapter 3 on Self Care is such a great piece which I was grateful Vanesa included and was able to address.

Great Book for Anyone Who's Gone Through a Divorce

Divorce is tough to go through, and this book helped me begin to move on. I like the quote from Vanesa Esperas, where she says divorce is like losing someone. I believe that to be 100% true in most cases. It can be devastating, and moving on is not always easy. However, this book helps you rethink divorce to move toward happiness. I recommend this book if you're someone who recently went through a divorce.

Important advice for those going through it.

Having been divorced myself, I wish this book had been around a few years ago, and I'd had the opportunity to listen to it sooner. The author knows what they are talking about. I especially related to the issue discussed of wanting to reconnect with your partner just as things are becoming finalized and why this is a BAD move, especially if they were the one to instigate divorce proceedings initially. It also goes through the different stages and how depression can be quite a common but unrecognized or diagnosed stage of grief for some. But the after-effects of divorce are definitely not all doom and gloom, and the author focuses on the next steps to happiness. It is a process that must be gone through as we all need to move on eventually, and this audiobook addresses that most helpfully. Highly recommend.

A great healing tool

I've seen divorce first hand and it isn't nice to watch people go through such a tough time. I was so interested to listen to this. It takes you through the right steps in order to heal and get back out on the dating scene. I very much liked chapter 2 and how to rebuild and reinvent yourself. The author really knows the right things to say and advice to give. It's the perfect length for commuting to work or a car journey. This will help you build your confidence and help you to become you again.

Spoke to me

Wonderful book full of helpful advice and with a soothing narrative voice. I've recently been divorced and I gained a lot of insight out of this book on my own inner struggles, but also learnt how to take those thoughts and turn them into positive reflections for when I am ready to meet someone new. I can highly recommend this book to anyone struggling with moving on in their life after divorce.
