Story
Up to 40% of people consider themselves shy. You might say you're introverted or awkward, or that you're fine around friends but just can't speak up in a meeting or at a party. Maybe you're usually confident but have recently moved or started a new job, only to feel isolated and unsure. If you get nervous in social situations - meeting your partner's friends, public speaking, standing awkwardly in the elevator with your boss - you've probably been told, "Just be yourself!" But that's easier said than done - especially if you're prone to social anxiety.

Feel more at ease in social situations
Any additional comments?
Absolutely fantastic book and most definitely my favorite in a very long time. Helped me deal with a load of issues. Social anxiety and shyness issues have always plagued me and they are most definitely not easy to overcome but i found the advice in this book to be excellent.
Of course not everything worked immediately, it did take a week or two for some things to click into place and their is one section (to do with social occasions) i had to listen to several times, but that is fine - u cant expect a life long list of bad habits to be eradicated with a single listen. It does take time but it is worth it.
A wonderful book and i hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.

Shyness is almost totally gone
Would you consider the audio edition of How to Talk to Anyone to be better than the print version?
Well i guess some people prefer to read books but personally i find audiobooks a lot easier to consume
What about Rachel Austin’s performance did you like?
Liked her voice, simple and easy to follow and understand.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
IT ACTUALLY WORKS...which makes a change for books in this genre!
Any additional comments?
I would give this book 9 out of 10. I would have liked a few more of examples of other people who got better but apart from that I LOVED the advice and tips and found it all very very useful!

Incredibly helpful
If you could sum up How to Talk to Anyone in three words, what would they be?
Very helpful book, full of very good practical advice - the best part is the advice actually felt realistic, it felt like things i could actually do in my own life.
What was one of the most memorable moments of How to Talk to Anyone?
Narration was very good. Loud, clear and engaging voice.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
I guess the thing to remember is the things you will learn from this book will take time to seep in (although i found positive changes immediately!) as you cant expect to change a life-time of habits overnight, but stick with it, it does work. I am walking testament of that!
Any additional comments?
Dealing with social anxiety / anxiety / self-esteem / shyness issues is not easy but it can be beaten. This is a fantastic book that will give you a lot of the tools you need to progress in life.

Fantastic!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. This is a really great book full of solid practical advice with just the right amount of self discovery. It covers a wide spectrum of conversational skills; from body language to conversation starters. There is a lot of focus on how to get people to enjoy talking to you, including some top notch advice on how to be a good listener and how to show people that you're interested in what they have to say. I hadn't ever thought about conversation in this light and I really think the author did a fantastic job with it.
What was one of the most memorable moments of How to Talk to Anyone?
There are quite a few humorous moments throughout the book which is quite rare in books about self progression. I love the fact that it's impactful without being too heavy or monotonous.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Initially I did listen in one sitting but I'm planning to listen to it again over the space of a week or two so I can really focus on it and get even more out of it.
Any additional comments?
Conversation is such an integral part of life. Feeling confident when you're speaking to people can make such a difference to your experience with others. I feel a lot more secure in myself now and I already feel less anxious about socialising (including when talking to people I find intimidating!). I highly recommend this book and I think anyone could benefit from it. It's great to learn how to really have time for other people and keep our communication with one another healthy and enjoyable!

An excellent book, highly recommended
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely and I already have! Because it gives actual practical advice, not just a load of nonsense that does nothing to actually help me. I needed help. I got help from this book. I got it fast.
What about Rachel Austin’s performance did you like?
Really good narration. For me a narrator can really make or break an audiobook. I found her voice to be engaging without being annoying. The speed of her voice was perfect too.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
To be honest, both! A few parts really hit me, as they finally fully explained why i was having issues with chatting to people and social situations. Ultimately I came away very happy as I could feel the difference and knew this would have a positive effect on my life forever.
Any additional comments?
Absolutely fantastic book. I can only speak from personal experience but for me this is truly life changing.
I am sick of books that just talk theory - i wanted practical advice and this is what I got. I have had issues with social situations, small chat, big conversations etc all my life and whilst I am not totally cured, I can sincerely say I started to feel better immediately upon getting this book. Thank you.

It's like she knew me for years
Loved this book!! I've always been the "shy guy" at work, struggling specifically with speaking in groups and to superiors. I'm the one that only opens up when among like-minded introverts (I'm sure you know the type!). I've been trying hard to work on this recently and this must be my 3rd purchase of a book on the subject. It's cheesy but I feel like the author perfectly describes my behaviour, and can predict my exact thought process when confronted with social situations. It's like she can read my mind, and that made me really comfortable and confident in her suggestions and advice. I've listened through it twice (second time taking a few notes, Audible app is great for that). The language is simple and easily understood, and it honestly feels like listening to a digital therapist at times. Might pick up a kindle version if available.
Some key takeaways you can expect:
- How to deal with worrying about what people might think about you
- How to be a better listener
- When and when NOT to speak (you'll find that us introverts actually have a very good sense of emotional/social cues)
If you pick it up, try to internalize as much as you can, and listen through it a second time (maybe at a higher playback speed if you want) to help you recall.

Shyness? What shyness??!?!? :)
What did you like most about How to Talk to Anyone?
My problem has always been shyness, since i was a kid. I hated social situations or anything i didn't have full control over. I have been following the advice in this book for about a month now and can feel myself gradually but surely getting better.
I no longer have huge fear over social situations, i am getting there slowly and for that i am very grateful to the author of this book. x
Any additional comments?
I liked the narrator a lot...only criticism would be the cover of this book which is not great.

So helpful!
Any additional comments?
Really useful nook, full of very good practical advice. I have been dealing with general social anxiety, shyness etc for most of my life. This is not an overnight cure but i can sincerely say I am handling difficult situations so much easier. I can now see why so many people have recommended this book to me.
Perfect length. Not too long, not too short. The perfect length to get the message across. Narrator i would say was 4 / 5.
Great book, i feel so much better and will continue to use the advice in this book everyday!

This book really worked for me, a real booster
Any additional comments?
An excellent resource, one full of very valuable informations, and tactics. My shyness has plagued me all my life but i am slowly (it takes time!) getting better, thanks to what I have learnt from this book. I am now on my 4th listen to it, which should say a lot. Recommend this for anyone who needs help with shyness, social anxiety and just general help with what to say in different situations and how to act / carry yourself. Great book!

Hugely informative, hugely enjoyable
Any additional comments?
As my subject says, this was a hugely informative but also hugely enjoyable book to listen to, really helping me with everything from shyness to making small chat and actually mostly with dealing with an upcoming wedding and upcoming job interview. I feel more prepared, more relaxed and more realistic.
Terrible cover but great book! :-)

Helped with shyness issues
What made the experience of listening to How to Talk to Anyone the most enjoyable?
That it worked!
Have you listened to any of Rachel Austin’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Not that i know of.
Her voice was great.
Easy to understand and to follow.
Professional recording.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Cry once...in the best way.
Because I felt a positive change inside.
Any additional comments?
I hate how i am in public situations, to the point i often avoid them.
I feel awkward, never know what to say, i feel nervous and at times properly frightened.
Avoidance is easier than tackling it.
No more.
Things have changed and I put it 90% down to this book and 10% to myself.
Proper advice.
Advice anyone can use.
I am so much better and for that I am eternally grateful to the author. I still have a little bit more to go but i have never felt so positive.

Incredible book, life changing in fact
Would you listen to How to Talk to Anyone again? Why?
YES many times, because it is full of so much info, it will take a few listens to really absorb it all.
Any additional comments?
Incredible book helping me deal with some pretty deep rooted social anxiety issues. I now find social gathering and talking to people (friends, family, opposite sex and strangers) so much easier, more natural and more effective. This is about proper honest communication, not cheap tricks.
A fantastic book and for me, life changing.

This helped me a lot!
Where does How to Talk to Anyone rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Up with one of the best, definitely!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Moved me in the sense that it made me believe (and finally see the results) that I can get better in dealing with situations.
Any additional comments?
Social situations have ALWAYS been difficult for me. Some days are worse than others. Sometimes its just mild shyness and sometimes its quite crippling social anxiety. This helped me a lot. I picked up so much genuine advice, that really helped me. I am so much better already, especially when dealing with social situations at work.

Fantastic, helped me deal with social situations
What did you like most about How to Talk to Anyone?
It was realistic. I find a lot of books to be silly and not real life situations (or be horrendously out of date!!!) but this one was real, modern and applicable to life today.
Have you listened to any of Rachel Austin’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Never, but her voice was good.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I just recognised myself in some of the scenarios and most importantly i tried out some of the advice immediately and saw very positive results. I got pretty emotional over this to be honest, as i have been dealing with shyness (and self-esteem) issues all my life. It feels amazing to be slowly getting better.
Any additional comments?
This book as recommended to me by a friend on a forum (and i have already read another Jennifer Alison book) and i can see why. Its great, proper real work advice, laid out in a neat and very easy to follow way.
Sometimes, in our darkest hour, it seems that we cannot overcome major issues such as social anxiety / shyness / self-esteem, but really we can. I am walking testament to that. Do not give up. You can get better. Day by day, you CAN get better.

EXCELLENT!
A very definite 5 stars out of 5 stars for this book. Helped me deal with shyness issues and just feeling awkward when talking to people, especially strangers. Small talk in particular was very very difficult for me, but is vastly improved now.
Very grateful for this book.

Very good if you are a shy person or just find it hard to always know what to say (or how to say it), especially in social situations such as making small chat, meeting new people etc. I learnt a lot!
