During his off hours, he read some 200 books on the market and speculators, studying as much as eight hours a day. Darvas invested his money into some of stocks that had been hitting their 52-week high. He was surprised that the stocks continued to rise and subsequently sold them to make a large profit.

Compendium of old-school (non-quant) trader lore

Publisher's Summary
Jesse Livermore was a loner, an individualist - and the most successful stock trader who ever lived. Written shortly before his death in 1940, How to Trade Stocks offered traders their first account of that famously tight-lipped operator's trading system. Written in Livermore's inimitable, no-nonsense style, it interweaves fascinating autobiographical and historical details with step-by-step guidance on:
- Reading market and stock behaviors
- Analyzing leading sectors
- Market timing
- Money management
- Emotional control
In this new edition of that classic, trader and top Livermore expert Richard Smitten sheds new light on Jesse Livermore's philosophy and methods. Drawing on Livermore's private papers and interviews with his family, Smitten provides priceless insights into the Livermore trading formula, along with tips on how to combine it with contemporary charting techniques. Also included is the Livermore Market Key, the first and still one of the most accurate methods of tracking and recording market patterns.

WORST NARRATOR IN HISTORY
Literally the worst narrator in the history of the world.
Did you seriously just pick a random book (this one) and decide “Hey, I’ll read this out loud”.
Because it feels that way.
Did you just do 1 take because I heard you repeat the same line twice because you mistakenly read the same line…?
Also why would you pause mid sentence as if it is a period on like every sentence??? (You could make a YouTube video about this alone of most annoying habit in the world).
Is this seriously the first book you’ve ever read out loud before?

Misleading Title
I got this book thinking it was going show what the title says.
The book starts out by explaining who Livermore was, and how successful he was. Good info. It goes on to share stories of his trades. Good and bad. In an overly general way, it explains his method of finding potentially profitable trades, holding them if they gain, and selling them if they are losing. So “buy low, sell high”.
It did offer a very very small amount of things to look out for, but again, very general. This is absolutely NOT a book on “how to trade in stocks”, but rather a book on how he prepared to look for his trades, some of Livermore’s successful trades, and some not successful trades. And a few mistakes he made, which he learned from.
Overall the book isn’t terrible, I did enjoy it, but it is definitely a short and very general recap of his trading career.
If the book was titled “A general overview of Livermore’s trading”, it would probably have gotten a better review from me. But I don’t think I would have bought that book. I was under the impression this was some insight to his trading method.

Put this one in your library
I have followed Nicolas Darvis listening to his story and even made 1.4 million using his box theory in crypto. I just listened to this book and I know Jesse was well before Nicolas Darvis time, it now makes total sense, all the hero traders were influenced by Jesse. Jesses book is short and should be listened to often for staying on track before during and after a bull run. I would recommend it if you are not on track or new to trading.
