Entertaining tale for young readers
First: yes, this is the book series the movies are based but the story/ stories and characters are fairly different from the movie. So if you start listening to these books be aware of this and open to differences.
Now: I highly enjoy listening to David Tennant reading these novels. His performance is amazing, engaging and highly amusing.
The story of the book is easy to follow without being boring or too predictable. I personally enjoy them as relaxing and funny short books to listen to. Of course they are designed for young readers and fit these criteria perfectly. So don't expect complex turnoff events or anything like this.
I am amazed by the detailed descriptions and thoughts the author put into all the different kinds of dragons. Discovering more of them and about them is really fun.
Overall I enjoyed listening to this book and I look forward to finding out how the characters further develop through more stories.
I would encourage listening to the books in order but I don't believe it is necessary.

Excellent story!
If there is one drawback it would be the volume varies greatly from the whispers to the shouts.
The writing is exceptional and the performance is perfect. I've giggled, laughed out loud, tapped my toe in anticipation and felt like I was brought into the world of Vikings and could be one.
Kids will love it. Parents will laugh and the whole family will have a great time listening.

I love Fishlegs! He is hilarious! As usual this book is another gem in the series and does not disappoint. It is funny and entertaining. Cressida Cowell is a genius and David Tennant is a pure joy to listen to. I don't think they could have picked a better narrator.

Hiccup vs the Romans.
There is so much fun and adventure in this series I can't wait to read more. If you are a fan of children's book such as Harry Potter or Percy Jackson then you should get this series to try out. Although this book is not as long or intricate it is still totally worth reading, also the stories are totally different. Do read How to Train your Dragon books in order for max enjoyment. David Tennant is an awesome narrator. He really makes this already great book, ten times better.
