Terrible narration

The book is fine but the narrator mispronounces so many words that it's hard to focus on the material.

Distracting narration

I struggled listening to this book. The narrator’s mispronunciations, lack of vocal inflections, and lack appropriate pauses, resulted in poor narration.

Poorly read exceptional book

Narrator does not have the articulation necessary for a narrator. I don’t understand why this classic book is being read by this person. Painful to hear

Audible is all mixed up and not in order

Good book, but my issue is with the audible.

The book is written in Parts with subsections of chapters. The way this audible is put together they have it as Chapters then Parts which doesn’t follow the order of the book. If not following along in the book and realize a chapter is complete the order of the parts and chapters don’t make sense.

The reader is also a bit slow. It should have been read a little faster than it is read. I ended up reading myself instead of listening to this audible due to parts and chapter misalignment and the rate of how it was read.

It’s the narrator for me!!

Love the narrator! Representation matters; the other narrators were too dry and mundane. Trust BLACK WOMEN! Read sis read! Okay!

Great book, but sub-par narration

This Audible book was chosen for me, but if I had to choose next time I would’ve selected the other recording of this book. The narrator’s delivery was incredibly distracting, with too many mispronounced words to count. There were also editing errors that meant that a few time the same phrase was repeated. The book has a wonderful and timeless message, yet this narration detracted from that.

The pronunciation of the reader was very distracting, I couldn’t even finish it, never had that be a issue before

I Was distracted

There was a lot of useful information but the anecdotal dry sa old made my mind wander from the point being made. The exotic pronunciation of the reader didn't help with that either.

Thank you, narrator!!

Required “reading” for a workshop I’m talking, and it’s a refresher, as I’d read the hardcopy decades ago. Hearing this read in a modern voice (rather than the more robotic/dry male voice also on offer) brought this to life and made it feel like a chat with a friend. It also took the outdated 1936 sexist and classist examples (some no one would dare say, or hopefully even think, today) much more tolerable, and even a bit humorously entertaining. Thankful to have this version available!

the narrator sucks

I'm sure the book is great but the narrator was wrong for the book. Her pronunciations were off and tone of voice was off at many parts. one example is her poetry reading in chapter 1. It was torture to listen.
