Story
Mary Gauthier was 12 years old when she was given her Aunt Jenny’s old guitar and taught herself to play with a Mel Bay basic guitar workbook. Music offered her a window to a world where others felt the way she did. Songs became lifelines to her, and she longed to write her own, one day. Then, for a decade, while struggling with addiction, Gauthier put her dream away and her call to songwriting faded. It wasn’t until she got sober and went to an open mic with a friend did she realize that she not only still wanted to write songs, she needed to.

In good company
This book is for songwriters who may feel a little mystified about how to go about the whole process. When I read it, I already had about ten professionally produced songs on Spotify, but that was only because I had hired the author, Mr. Greenwood, to coach me one on one a few years prior.
So I knew Chris already and was familiar with some of his perspectives. Still the book was a fun and informative read, or listen, as Chris shares many anecdotes and observations that are inspiring and thought provoking.
The overall feeling you get from listening, is that Chris is in your corner. He's obviously excited about the prospect of you getting yourself (ourselves) OUT there, of making our voices heard.
You feel like you're talking to an older brother, or an uncle. You get my drift. It makes you feel like getting up, or down, and writing, and submitting!
Although it's sort of slated towards budding songwriters, I think most people who aren't huge stars already, would get something out of this book.
Enjoy!

A practical and expert approach to songwriting!
Chris will take you on a great journey with this insightful book. It is an expert guide to the practicals of writing a song. I have always assumed that great pieces of famous music that really make in big are exclusively written by professionals. Well, it didn’t really occur to me in the past that everyone has to start somewhere. This is, in fact, my biggest takeaway from this book, Rome wasn’t built in a day, if you want to give it a try, start where you are. This expert guide gives away all the secrets and steps in the process, all you have to do is try! Im not saying my first failed attempt is going ever to be a hit, but if you always doubted you have the skills, and are full of passion for the project - this book is definitely for you!
Five stars all round!

Well laid out book, well thought and structured. Chapters are easy to follow, and understand.
Chris explains it very well, step by step, with simple yet powerful language.
Probably not all the tricks could be in this book otherwise it will be very very long, but still packed with a generous amount for that to be in a nice, efficient audiobook time.

As someone who has dabbled in music production over the years, this book is an essential guide for the aspiring singer/songwriter. Most talented people are artists who don't have a clue where to begin. This book takes you step-by-step through the entire process from creating your first song to finding your audience and song production. Even musicians who already know how to write a song will benefit from the marketing and practical promotional advice in this engaging listen. As an award-winning artist, Chris Greenwood knows what works, and doesn't, since he's been there himself. Get this for yourself or the aspiring Taylor Swift in your family!
