Publisher's Summary

Rob didn't think of himself as anyone special, but when a pitch-black portal tried to wrap his best friend in chains, he stepped up without thinking and found himself ensnared instead.

His moment of heroism results in being torn away from everyone he knew and loved, kidnapped by an unknown force that leaves him with a note in his pocket stating: "Good luck."

After being thrown into the wilderness of Elatra, a hostile fantasy world ruled by levels, stats, progression, and bizarre video game logic, he finds himself entirely out of his depth. Armed with nothing but a sword and the clothes on his back, he sets out on his the first day, and almost dies. On the second day, he almost dies again. On the third, he began to notice a worrying trend. And almost dies.

It doesn't get any easier from there.

Overcoming the wilds is just the first step in his journey; the society of Elatra is incredibly hostile to humans, having just come off of a devastating war that left over half the population dead, and getting the locals to trust the last human in existence is a struggle in and of itself. Between being powerless in a world that hates him and suffering under a System that is altering his mind in unwanted ways, Rob quickly finds that monsters aren't nearly the biggest thing to worry about.

As far as LitRPG isekai adventures go, Rob drew the short straw in many ways. But that's okay - all the bullshit in the world won't keep him down. He'll carve out a place in this world with his bare hands if necessary. He'll survive, and then he'll thrive.

Whether anyone wants him to or not.

if blood is your drug then everyone's a juice box

ok so I'm not done with the book yet. spoilers
I am so confused with how the mc just except humans are bad with no evidence. all he nows is 6 races banded together and comited genocide and there were enormous casualties in the process. the mc is apologetic and willing to put his head on the copping block for a bunch of elves who have shown nothing but hostility and a willingness to kill him out of hand. who in there right mind? I just don't understand. he is kowtowing to elve how admit to committing genocide and want to kill him. if there isn't a good enough reason to justify the elves actions let enough the mc's action soon I don't think ill finish the book

author dropped the ball. humans are highly addicted to leveling high. that is stupid. no society can come from a bunch of junkies. no species could survive or evolve with such a handicap. no war could ever be executed by a bunch of junkies that could cause hundreds of thousands of casualties. junkies don't cooperate. the don't raise children. they don't work at anything that doesn't lead to the high. the logic is so poor for such a base piece of the stories foundation that I'm done with the book.

Dag nab it!

so i like the lore and its....how to say...
it throws out just enough bait/info to keep you salivating! WHERE IS BOOK TWO!? I DEMAND IT NOW!
WHAT IS UP WITH THAT HEART WRENCHING EPILOUGE! Epilogues are supposed to set you up/psych you up for the next book not make you wanna CRY YOUR EYES OUT! WTF!! THAT WAS FLIPPING BEAUTIFUL AND EFFING I LOVED IT!
The amount of cursing is a bit much since this takes place on another world, i (personally) think they should have different swears, but at the same time if i were in the MCs shoes I would probably be cussing about the same amount as well...>.>.....

Fantastic Series - great listen

I got this first book on a whim thinking I'll return if it turns out lame. I was extremely surprised and well addicted to the book after getting into it awhile. This book series has a great plot with many sub-plot mysteries. I love that it all seems to be well thought out. I enjoy the mechanics of the system, the ups and downs with the MC as well as his relationship and social conflicts. This is probably going to be one of my top 10 favorite series assuming this continues and that eventually there is a conclusion (please don't let this be another series that gets abandoned - I have too many of those).

Does have an overpowered MC but he keeps getting thrown into situations over his head, so it balances out. No harem which is nice that I don't have to worry about my wife giving me side glances. There is some language, the f-bomb could probably be used less, but I'm happy to deal with that in light of the nice book.

I enjoy this narrator as well; he's done some of my other good books and it's nice to hear his voice again as well.

If you like He who Fights with Monsters, Defiance of the Fall, Beginning after the End, Ten Realms type series this one will be up your alley. Basically, guy gets pulled into game world, no freakin' clue what to do, tries to figure out how to survive, finds out whole world and the system hates him and he needs to get past that to stay alive.

Happy Listening!

Must enter Headline, even tho it says optional lol

I listen to a lot of these LitRPG books: This one is really good.

It has a few rough edges, but don't they all?

I typically don't write a review unless I really liked a book. Good use of a credit.👍👍

Nonsensical melodrama

NOTE: I could only make it 2 hours or so into this before I couldn't take any more. If what annoyed me - to the point of dropping the story - sounds like it would annoy you too, give this a skip.

This story committed two sins (in my eyes) that made it unreadable to me.

A few days is not enough time to start feeling crippling loneliness. The author tries to play this up as a source of immense grief for the character, but it feels wholly unearned. Maybe if there had been a 2 month+ timeskip after his transplantation, I could buy it. But after a couple days? It's so pathetic it borders on unrealistic, especially for a grown man.

Piggy-backing on 'being pathetic,' That's the second sin and grounds for instant dismissal of a story.

The original humans of this world were apparently horrible. I didn't get far enough in to find out why and nor do I care, but it was so bad the locals want to and try to kill him on the spot. Twice this happened before I stopped and twice the protagonist basically shrugs it off, rationalising their genocidal rage away like a college kid with crippling white (read: human) guilt.

The scene before I dropped this story, he's so desperate for companionship (after less than a week of 'loneliness'), that he willingly chooses to subject himself to their 'judgement' (the crime, being human) to escape it.

He's just... so pathetic. Uncomfortably so.

No thanks.

Great start to a series

This book i had a hunch about the moment i read the authors name, it seems a fad lately to have a odd author name in this genre and it seems to be a mark of a good series too haha. The MC in this book could use a little bit of a nudge towards sucking it up but its not as bad as some books ive read. I really think the first part of the second book we will see him having grown a good bit. I cannot wait to see what happens next and this is all any author should crave is that very statement!

One of the best books this year...

Epic Mc has a nice sense of humor. Just a really good take on being stuck in a game like world.

Narrator

Wow this narrator really killed it. Book is a solid 8/10, but the narrator makes it a 9/10.

Great litrpg

I loved this book, a great start to a new series. The writing style is reminiscent of Eric Ugland. Looking forward to the next installment!

Hilarious and witty

Good litrpg book, funny as heck.
as a fan of the genre (including stat readouts. don't come at me) this was an original and compelling story. Laughing at the dumb/strange choices the main character makes while sobbing at other points of the book makes this a definite 5/5.

Great with a but.. .

Great story, great narration. My only issue is the end of chapter reviews, I have read a lot of litrpg, and I just didn't enjoy the end of chapter reviews because it felt like I was just being feed the same information twice for no reason. That being said, the story in between was great. MC is great, look forward to following his adventures in this book as well as any to follow.

For the love of god drop the end of chapter level recap

Only bad thing is the almost endless re cap of the levels and perks and skills at the end of chapters think one went for a full 2min

Other then that it’s a good story I like the overall pacing and will probably get the next one

Well written and clever but not my cup of tea.

I didn't want leave a bad review because this book does something different and does it well.
Unfortunately for me the thing the author does is a deep dive into the adolescent emotions of Rob as he traverses a litrpg landscape.
I was here for the world, the fighting and the leveling and but was left wanting.
However great voice work and the author does have a clever turn of phrase.

Nicely done

A well written and surprisingly good litrpg.

With so many below average litrpg books out there it’s always nice coming across a gem like this one.
Thankyou Kamikazepotato, looking forward to the next one ;)
