Lady Clarissa Crambray wanted a husband, but maybe not as much as her stepmother wanted one for her. Really! Doffing her spectacles might make a girl prettier, but how would she see? She'd already caused enough mayhem to earn a rather horrible nickname. Yet as all other suitors seemed to shy away in terror, there came a man to lead her to the dance floor. Publisher's Summary
Four Buchanan brothers have found their brides...only three more to go in this scintillating romance from New York Times best-selling author Lynsay Sands....
Lady Dwyn Innes feels utterly out of place among the eligible women who’ve descended on Buchanan Keep, vying for the attention of the last unmarried brothers. She isn’t long-legged and slender like her sisters, or flirtatious and wily like other lasses. Since her betrothed died, Dwyn has resigned herself to becoming an old maid. Yet a chance encounter with a stranger in the orchard awakens her to a new world of sensation and possibility....
After weeks away, Geordie Buchanan returns to find his home swarming with potential brides, thanks to his loving but interfering family. But one lass in particular draws his attention from the moment he spies her climbing a tree. Lady Dwyn is not nearly as plain as she thinks. Her lush figure and eager kisses delight him, as does her honesty. But the real test lies ahead: eliminating a hidden enemy, so that he and Dwyn can seal their Highland passion with a vow.

when people make fun of romance novels
when they pick on romance novels... this is the one they are referring too... it's so bad it's hilarious in its most passionate moments... from bad renaissance festival research on the time period, to dangling girls from trees while still making out... if you want so bad it's funny.. this one is for you. if you want an actual romance with Scotsman and period drama... look else where.

Not her usual standard
It was way too insta-love for me. And it seemed that that the ratio of storyline to sexy time was too heavy on the sexy time. Lastly the word GRIMACE or it variation was used far far too repetitively. It got to the point that every time I heard the word I grimaced.

Lynsay Sands needs a vacation
So I want to say first that I was a HUGE Lynsay Sands fan. I gobbled up her older highlander books like potato chips. I adored her lighthearted, even a tad silly, characters. However, I think she has decided that stupid is synonymous with silly.
I won't go into the plot details because you can read those in the publisher's summary. I liked the Dwyn isn't your typical heroine. Her imperfection and positive outlook is endearing. Geordie is likable enough, as well. However, there are several odd, far fetched scenes that made me shake my head. For example, after they sleep together, Geordie ends up being completely naked with what is described as her virginal blood all over his penis, standing in the hallway with Dwyn, his brother and HER FATHER. I mean, come on. Who is going to believe that a man would do that? And how much blood was there that everyone in the hallway could see it and then comment on it!
There are lots of inconsistencies, as well. He carries her everywhere because she gets glass embedded in her feet for days and she then wonders if he will ever come to care for her. He carries you everywhere, Dwyn, and you wonder if he will learn to care for you? What? It was as though Lynsay Sands couldn't find a reason to cause tension so she just threw a couple sentences in there stating tension without any sort of evidence to show the reader this. It is lazy. In fact, that's a great way to describe this book. Lazy.
And finally, I don't know who edited it but she legit used the word "grimace" probably about 40 times. It was so annoying and distracting. Again, lazy. Lazy writing, lazy editing.
The narrator did a good job! Joel Froomkin adds more substance to the story with inflections and voices than the book really deserves.
I am hoping to return this and get my credit back because it just wasn't worth it. And I think I'm going to turn in my membership to the Lysnay Sands' Fan Club.

The Buchanans
I love this series by LS! If you love historical romance you need to start at the very beginning. Don’t miss one story! This one is about one of the last three single Buchanan Brothers, that if you read all the books you will come to love this family. I loved this story because the heroine is not some knock out, drop dead gorgeous female. She was a beautiful person, but it was an inner and personality beauty first and foremost. It was a sweet and wonderful story of acceptance and true love of a person. Great read, just start at the beginning it will help you understand all the dynamics and how everyone ties together! Besides they are all great reads and worth it!

sexy, romantic, and a bit of mystery and danger.
classic romance novel with all the twists and tuns, and steamy love scenes read with a fitting Scottish brogue. I appreciated the modernizing of our heroine while still maintaining the historic feel of the story.

Not your typical damsel in distress story.
This damsel is smart, sassy, and not waiting for a prince to come and save her. The hero is not typical either. His armor is a bit tarnished but he is still a good man. Love is not a question in this story.

Good story, but a few annoying issues
The story was a fun listen and the narrator is amazing!!! Does so well with women voices you forget he is a man.
My 3 issues I have are with the author.
1st, the stories are getting repetitive. A girl is being attacked (usually poisoned, shot w/ an arrow, or knocked unconscious) by some unknown person. It would be nice to see the man attacked and the girl having to save him or some other plot entirely.
2nd, STOP using the word GRIMACE! It is way overused! At least once a paragraph.
3rd, please do research on hymens. Every story the girl is a virgin and according to the author, has a hymen inside the vagina, the men can feel it when they insert something, there will be blood after the first time, and it really hurts all the girls the first time they have sex. This is such a horrible myth to spread. Hymens are a thin layer of skin at the entrance of the vagina with a hole in the middle, some hymens are almost non existent. Most women have "broken" it before sex by any physical activity or even riding a bike or horse. And most women don't feel a "break" or sharp initial pain the first time they have sex and most don't bleed the first time. Please stop writing otherwise.

as always, Lynsay kept me going
i can honestly say that the story as great and the characters were fun but the narrator... not so good! He made Geordie sound a bit slow and lack witted with his voice at times and some of the other brothers were a bit goofy soundly. not what I expected the Buchanan's to sound like.

Love these Buchanans
I was critical of the previous narration by Joel Froomkin but it must have been an anomaly. This book was perfect. Lynsay Sands writes great stories of love, intrigue and humour and Joel did a brilliant job. I don't always write a review but I need to make amends to Joel. As previously said, the heroines are feisty young women who have caught the attention of sex gods. This narration was spot on.

Sweet
I've really come to like this series. The stories are funny and smart and I like the characters Sands has created. These two, Dwyn and Geordie were really rather sweet. The narrator, Froomkin, wasn't as bad as the previous book he'd read in this series - actually he was somewhat better. Either that or I've gotten used to it by now. Still not convinced he's a good choice though.

Fantastic story
This 8th book was fantastic but as I couldn't bear this narrator's voice in the 6th book of Ollie's story I wasnt really looking forward to listening to this one with the same narrator, but I got used to his voice this 2nd time round and he sounded a bit better. I love this series because i love that all the brothers are in every story, with all their wives included so i have listened to them all again before I started the next one, Rory's story, which im really looking forward to as it is read by one of my favourite narrators, Derek Perkins , love his voice, especially the heros' voices.
This story was soooooo good I just couldn't stop listening. it's one brilliant story after another. I really hope that besides Rory's and Alec's stories there will be the stories of Dywn's isters, Una and Eilean ( not sure about the spelling). Maybe a story about Una and Macgregor. And also maybe Gavin Mcleod's story too.
Now on to the next one, Rory's story.
