Helpful to learn
The breathing techniques are very easy to remember and there is a different one for each part of labor (staying calm between contractions, the actual contraction, and the pushing phase). I love that contractions are called "waves" and the whole premise behind it is your breathing helps keep your body calm and the lack of tention allows your uterus to easily move the baby down. As recommended, I'm already practicing the breathing techniques to prep for labor and I am greatly looking forward to my labor this time around.

Very good audiobook
Very good audiobook for anyone interested in hypnobirthing. The audiobook concentrates on the methods, without lenghty histological reviews, religious stuff or bashing of hospitals. There are full meditation scripts written there, that you can have your partner listen out loud or just listen for yourself and record it, so even without a cd it is very usefu

Try a different book
This is incomprehensible. It sounds like a scientific journal being read by news reporter. Definitely not meant to be an audiobook. For what it’s worth, it also seemed to be targeted to people who are afraid of giving birth. If you’re not, then hearing about other people’s fears is kind of like going backward

How did something like this get published?
I'm absolutely appalled. I've read quite a few Hypnobirthing books. I'm a yoga teacher and having discovered Hyphobirthing, I was hooked! But certainly not on this book! Not only does the author offer out right lies in this book - but the advise given is actually dangerous - especially for pregnant women. In chapter 4 the author starts going into Ayurveda, a bit off topic but ok. She then continues to pitch for a vegetarian diet, ok... She takes this to an extreme though by saying things such as when you take in "dead meat into your body" and describes how the animal suffered and then how the "meat carries the energy of fear" and that "our body takes on this fear". She continues by stating that "The body cannot use coagulated protein for cell building" (what?!) and explains that "this is why meat is very toxic for the body". This is clearly false. Some other quotes from this book: "The body gets weaker and weaker from eating meat and indeed ages prematurely." After having discussed how she won't go into the cruelty of the meat industry and her claims that eating meat causes starvation, she tops off this topic by the most outright statement of all that fish is the same and that "Fish puts every pregnant woman and her developing foetus at risk". Fish contains crucial Omega 3 acids and is especially important for a foetus' brain development. All this is what I mean by dangerous. Whilst you certainly can be equally healthy as a vegetarian, you will need to be more careful with what you eat to ensure you get all those important proteins, vitamins and yes - Omega 3. Incredible that this garbage was allowed to be published. Returned immediately.

This book was very good at introducing the concept of hypnobirthing but if you are looking for practical tips you are told to do a course in addition to reading this book. There are lots of good YouTube videos to compliment what the theory in this book discusses so it's useful to read this as a starting point

I wish I had the audiobook before I was born! It really takes away the fear of childbirth and gives you the firm confidence that it can / will walk nicely and without problems. It describes very well why there could be such a great fear of childbirth in our society (and makes one somewhat angry with the current hospital birth system).

Best audiobook
This audiobook is brilliant - I've listen a ton of baby/mother/birthing/pregnancy audiobooks and THIS is the best, by far. Sophie Fletcher writes easily and wonderfully, gives great explanations to everything, addresses the fears of pregnancy without making it scarier, preps you on what everything is going to be like, ultimately takes the unknown possibilities of pregnancy and makes them very comfortable and simple situations that you CAN get through in peace.
