The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. don't waste your money or credits
it was painful to finish. literally painful. the author put in so much completely irrelevant stuff it was like she had a good idea but couldn't flesh it all out or put in the work so she just filled it with a bunch of crap to get from point a to point b. Spoilers ahead for those like me who wanted to know but was sick to death of the endless dragging on. You know why she said you disgust me dad? she saw a picture of him cheating on her mother. that's the big drawn out deal. dragged through the whole story line just for that, which really had little to do with anna going missing. Sarah's dad is a pedophile, molested Sarah and Lilly, had nothing to do with Anna's disappearance. Ella, the witness, is quite possibly the dumbest person ever functionally created. basically everyone just keeps lying about dumb shit instead of telling the police the truth. then they go on and on about how awful and stupid the police are.... but they've all been lying and hiding shit from the get go so the cops are just endlessly working out false leads and lies because apparently none of them are capable of being honest, not being completely selfish, and hell bent for glory on making the stupidest decisions possible. Sarah, the best friend is a truly wretched person with ZERO redeeming qualities. Skip the book and save hours of wasted time. it's awful.

A Bunch of Nonsense
This book had so many diverging storylines that intertwined and ultimately made zero sense. This could have been better. It was probably one of the most pointless books I've listened to, definite waste of money.
I stuck it out for most of the book, even though I knew right away that it just wasn't for me. But the ending, seriously, I just couldn't. It was so unbelievable and far-fetched. I will avoid this author from now on.

confusing
This story was very confusing to follow as an Audible book. I had to keep rewinding it to figure out what was going on. Once I finally made a chart of the characters and their roles, the story picked up pace. It might have been a better story to read. There were a lot of characters and sub-plots. I usually love books like this, but listening to this story just confused me. The narrator was awesome. I look forward to hearing her in the future.

Creepy Thriller With Depth
This mystery accomplishes something many thrillers are unable to do by adding a sense of reality to the storytelling and a genuine expression of feeling for the victims of crime. What's more, the story places the listener in the scary position of suspecting almost everyone at different points in the book. There are so many back stories, twists and dark secrets that the ending sneaks up and really surprises. Unlike other reviews I've read elsewhere, I liked hearing all the personal details of life--managing a farm, complex families, raising teens and the daily running of a flower shop. I thought all this information made the book and the story much more firmly grounded in a strong sense of plausibility. In the end, this was a scary, sad and believable story. A powerful combo if you enjoy thrillers that immerse the reader deeply into the lives of the characters and story as it plays out. However, do be warned--it's creepy.

don't waste your time
I'm an avid audiobook listen and more than once I have found myself screaming in frustration at this book. I still haven't finished it; I am trying to suffer through. it actually could be condensed into four chapters the beginning a couple of notes from the middle and the end. This lady spent a whole chapter talking about how to arrange a flower bouquet but hasn't progressed the storyline at all and I'm on chapter 31

Very frustrating novel!
I did complete I Am Watching You, but it was a chore. The part I like least is the constant navel gazing by the protagonist. The story is sad from beginning to end. If there is a message in the story I missed it. The narration style is consistent with the sadness of the plot. I usually like dark psychological/suspense mysteries, but not in this case.

Nope
This book is endless and took forever to move. It was not suspenseful. It was not believable. It was not interesting. It lumbered on and on and bored me so much I put it down more than I picked it up. So, really, it was my fault it took almost four weeks to finish. Had I known things didn’t start happening until chapter 46, I would have skipped ahead because everything in between was just dopey, superfluous, and paranoid. To say the plot is thin is an understatement; and the end was removed from the rest of the book so it made no sense. Glad this was a Kindle Unlimited book and I didn’t pay extra for it.

Pretty good is appropriate.
3 stars on Audible reviews indicates "pretty good"... I would say that that description wraps up this book fairly well. It is not a bad book, but it is not great, either. It is yet another book in the Gone Girl, Girl on the Train, vein, but it does not live up to the level of those books. I Am Watching You just seems to spin in the mud. It tries to get unstuck, but just can't get out of the bog. Feels heavy and plodding, and that is unfortunate because I had high hopes for it. Again, it is not a bad book, and I enjoyed it to a point, but I was not sorry to see it go. If that description excites you, haha, then get to listening!

A Glowing Five Stars
Wow, I take my hat off to the author for this book, it was simply unputdownable. A tragic tale of a missing teenager which will have you asking yourself what you would have done had you been in Ella's shoes. I listened on audio and found myself prolonging my household chores just to listen to one more chapter, and driving a little slower when it played in the car. It's the sense of intrigue that carries this novel along nicely, the need to hear just another chapter to find out what happens next. There are several families involved with various characters and Teresa writes with such authenticity that you can see the story play out in your mind's eye. Unlike some books, you're never left wondering who a particular character is for very long as the author explains it very clearly. Everyone has secrets - which I loved. My sense of curiosity was on overdrive and the ending was brilliant, all the loose ends tied together beautifully without seeming rushed. It's easy to see why this book has been such a huge hit with readers and I look forward to her next offering, The Friend. Also, a note for the narrator. I am a huge fan of Elizabeth Knowelden and she did an amazing job of bringing this audiobook to life. A glowing five stars from me.

Poor title for a good book
I really did not like the title of this book, it just reminded me of the usual hyped up psychological thriller with all the promises and little to deliver once you are sucked in.
However, I am pleased thati did not judge the book by its cover and went on to read the synopsis, which looked as though it had some potential.
Now I am pleased I bought, listened and written this review as it was really good. There were lots of twists and turns and all surrounding believable characters which isessential for a story to prove it’s worth.
Thank you Ms Driscoll, I will see what else you have to offer.

Page turner!
Full of twists and turns, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Well narrated and constructed, it’s never too predictable. The characters are believable for the most part, though there was a small glitch where three different characters all use the same phrase “done a bunk”. However that was the only annoyance (and yes I realise it’s tiny) for me. Overall I’d definitely recommend.

Very repetative
I struggled with this book, and found the twists and turns an anti climax. The story is told from different character points of view, with each one telling the same story over and over again. You can tell the author was trying to build tension, but I just found it frustrating. Each time a character would divulge something or get to the point, something would happen to stop them. They'd go over the same feelings and again and again and I felt like it didn't add to the story rather dragged it on for a few more hours. The ending was a little surprising, but by then I just wanted the story to be finished. Character development was good, but I found the main character "the witness" a bit wet and she annoyed me. Not for me at all, but the narration was good and the story did have potential, just too repetitive for me to enjoy.

Why was it not perfect?
The premise was a good one, but the telling of the story lacked tightness. There was hardly any need to have a blow by blow account of the detective's domestic situation, the dog's behavior, and other pointless descriptions. Far too many small observations that added nothing to the story.
Sloppy writing... "Done a bunk" said by various characters, and the expression "from the off" repeated countless times again by every character. How many times did we have to hear the daughter say "You disgust me" to her dad?
The reader has received many accolades in the reviews but I found her voice too breathless and slightly hysterical as a way of blowing drama into the narrative, even in places where it was definitely not called for.
She lacked that amazing skill some readers have to differentiate characters, in voice, accent and tonality.
Having said all this, I thought it was a fairly well thought out thriller. Congratulation. It has obviously done well.

Average
This book started well and I was intrigued. however it seemed to lose momentum quite quickly and I lost track of names and who was who. The narrator was okay and I got to the end but was a very forgettable story.

Interesting read....something different
Intriguing and engaging, skips around a lot, but gives clear picture of the characters.
Ending is unexpected.

Mundane
I disliked this book a lot. The one word i would use to describe it would would be mundane. ugh!
I originally purchased this book based on 2 things the overall rating was high and the story line sounded intriguing.
One of the things i love about books is the emotional connection to characters. It does not matter if I love them or hate them the characters need to bring out an emotional response in me. These characters were flat, uninteresting, the book was filled with everyday things which instead of making the characters come alive made it dull.
While the overall story line was good and the ending was not predictable (which is why this got 2 stars) it certainly is not worth the slog of dragging yourself through the bland and boring to get there. The text surrounding and supporting the story line was empty and banal.
The performance was excellent.

Sometimes reality is a flaw
The characters in this story are very real. Their thoughts, daily lives, fears, concerns etc all ring very true to actual people.
That’s a good thing unless the people are so ordinary as to be frankly - boring.
A woman who worries about the look of her upper arms or a man who thinks his pregnant wife’s farts smell might be REAL but it’s not very riveting reading.
And they aren’t just ordinary on the surface - their lives have an underside which is “murky” but ALSO “ordinary” - as in very commonplace. Affairs, teen pregnancy, incest etc.
In the end when it comes to books with a victim I ask myself ONE question- do I CARE. Do I care what happened to them, do I care that justice is served.
In this case the focus isn’t actually in the victim. The story is about people affected by her disappearance - mother, father, sister, friend and a “witness” and her family.
And I found I did NOT care at all.
