Publisher's Summary

Don’t miss the captivating new book from Sunday Times best-selling author Susan Lewis!

High-flying lawyer Jessica Wells has it all. A successful career, loving husband Tom and a family she adores. But one case—and one client—will put all that at risk.

Edward Blake. An ordinary life turned upside down—or a man who quietly watched television while his wife was murdered upstairs? With more questions than answers and a case too knotted to unravel, Jessica suspects he’s protecting someone.

Then she comes home one day and her husband utters the words no one ever wants to hear: Sit down...I have something to tell you.

Now Jessica must fight not only for the man she defends, but for the man she thought she trusted with her life—her husband.

Depressed

If you want to finish a book feeling like you wish you’d never invested so much time!
Eagerly waiting & hoping for the twist that turns the whole story around and makes all the depressing story worth it!
Read it!

I’m so disappointed! And also wondering why is this number 1 on Amazon charts??

It made me feel soooooo depressed!

Silly Plot

I finished this book but I think I knew right from the start how it would end. Hard to put a finger on what annoyed me most without spoiling the silly story. I didn’t enjoy the narrator’s characterisation and I’m surprised that Richard and Judy have it on their list. I’ve remembered why I stopped reading Susan Lewis 30 years ago - I grew up.

So disappointing

This was a dull, repetitive, predictable story! Not worth spending the credits on this one

Disappointing

This is a good idea but not well executed. The writing is not good - a better editor should have taken out some of the more wince-inducing descriptions. And the dog…. Well just plain silly. I kept reading to find out who did it but ended up feeling that the whole things was a waste of time.

Among the best!

Having read a few hundred books over the past 5 years this book effortlessly sits within the highest centile. The plot is wonderfully creative yet credible. The narration is flawless. I would not be surprised to see this book presented as a TV drama or indeed a film.

Mills and Boon fluff!

The first half was quite gripping and stacked up really nicely but then it turned into fluff and nonsense with a plot hole I could’ve fell into. Disappointing.

The slowest story I’ve ever heard

You could read/listen to the first few chapters, then skip to the last chapter and you’d have missed barely anything. The blurb on the back is misleading, makes out her husband is involved in the main story when he’s nothing to do with it. The narration was pretty abysmal. Really slow, stupid story.

predictable ending, but story read well.

I enjoyed the story although was sad it had such a predicable ending. I had guessed where it was going mid way and was sad it took me straight there, kept waiting for the twist at tye very end but it never came. Have read better

Mixed feelings about this one, didn’t quite work

I started to enjoy this book, then I didn’t. Fell flat towards the end. Dragged in a bit with incidental, fluff and then the ending was a relief to get the book finished. It wasn’t terrible, an easy read but just fell flat. Narrator was good and engaging, it was just the story that didn’t quite work for me.

Absolutely spell binding !!

What a brilliant book ! It certainly kept me guessing all the way through ! Really hope there's a sequel as I would love to know what happens next !! A fantastic listen and loved the narrators voice and the way she portrayed the characters. Yet another winner for Susan Lewis !!
