Pampered heiress Georgianna Watkins has a party-girl image to maintain, but all the shopping and clubbing is starting to feel a little bit hollow - and a whole lot lonely. Though Georgie would never admit it, the highlights of her week are the mornings when she comes home at the same time as her uptight, workaholic neighbor is leaving to hit the gym and put in a long day at the office. Hockey star Max Yearwood was everything I needed at the time - fun, sexy, up for anything, and only around for a few months, since he’d signed with a new team 3,000 miles away. Max proposed we spend the summer helping me forget my ex. It sounded like a good plan. Things couldn’t get too serious when we had an expiration date. Right? Am I friends with JP Cane? Ha! That's laughable. Besides the fact that he’s adopted some far-fetched notion from the movie When Harry Met Sally that says men and women can't be friends and work together, it’s safe to say we're not friends. He's annoyingly loud, obnoxiously handsome, and has made an art out of poking all my hot buttons...multiple times a day. So you can imagine how disgruntled I am when I not only have to fly to San Francisco with him for work, but stay in the same penthouse. Yup, we're sharing the same air, 24-7. We're talking full-fledged working roommates.

Publisher's Summary
A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he's retired and single. Just as he's starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist for Oxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled, but he can't stop thinking about the one person who's always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister. Mollie Carrington can't say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie's just glad that she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago - or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson's mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place - but she can't win if she doesn't play the game.

I was either bored or irritated with this book
First I want to say how much I disliked Jackson, the H in this story. He was weak, wimpy and whiny... There will be SPOILERS here because I don't see how any one could think of him as a romantic lead or a catch. We meet him on his wedding day, he is detached from his wedding and seems glum. We later find out his wife cheated on him in their first year of marriage ( he caught them) and many times after. Why did he stay for 8 years? Until his wife lies about him to the press and ruins him and divorces him while he is recovering from a devastating accident. This doesn't make him a hero to me because he was faithful to her. He had even said that he kind of got married because he was going with the flow.. Then he finds out her true character. Sometimes he says he loved her in the book, but , you know , ick. When he meets Molly , her sister, 8 months later after the accident, she has had a makeover. Now he always cared for her and confided in her but now she had a make over , died her hair , wearing sexy clothes, so NOW he takes notice. Another ICK for me. It's shallow to me. He is grumpy and self pitying through the whole book. When he and Molly fall into a sexual relationship he basically tells her they will be f*ck buddies... Nice... nice way to treat someone you supposedly cared for all these years. There are a few times where he sees his ex wife and gets sentimental about their old life, I just don't want to read that crap. He comes across as a smarmy selfish user to me. Molly is just a dumb cluck. One night after he and Molly have sex, sex by the way he pursues when he already knows he's leaving her but hasn't told her yet ( smarmy) she starts to tell him she loves him, but he puts his hand over her mouth so she won't say it. She thinks " he rejected my love", but the next day for no logical reason except bad plotting she decides to tell her sister about her and Jackson and that she loves him and wants a future with him. Hmm.. after he just told her not to say I love you, huh? I really didn't like any character in this book and the side work stories were boring. I can't say Lauren Layne is a bad writer, hence the 2 stars, but I think everything about this story is misguided. The narration was annoying because when she is doing Jackson's voice with a supposed southern drawl she just draws out his words slowly which makes him sound kind of slow. There were other probs with the narration , but overall, this was just an annoying experience.

The characters are weak masochists
Not a great story. Characters are weak and do things that actually made me yell WTF out loud. Molly’s sister has proven over and over to be untrustworthy yet she acquiesces to her over and over. The hero is a whinny grumpy jerk who takes no responsibility for his actions. The whole story just annoyed me to no end....I didn’t even finish it. Yuck!

Narrators voice was very off putting...
I feel this was a decent story but I couldn't get past the narration. From the moment the book started I disliked the readers voice. I stuck it out til the end hoping I would just get used to it, but no such luck. I would suggest listening to the preview before purchasing this book, if the narrators voice doesn't bother you, then and only then would I definitely recommend you use a credit/$ on this one.

a sweet friends to lovers story
well I enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters, I do felt that some of the conflict was contrived and it wrapped up too quickly. I would have liked to see the hero put more effort forth to moving beyond his previous career.

Although the ex was a monster, there is no universe they seem ok. I couldn't imagine making out with someone who had sex with my sister. yuck. good thing it's fictional characters. I know this happens, but shouldn't. This sister is so naive and stupid. It's not ok. Selfish feelings

I enjoyed the story
I loved the story, my only wish is that you could get a guy to do the Jackson part. I did not like to listen to the fairness of the guy's voice. it doesn't seem real in the performance
