Publisher's Summary

"Sophie Gonzales and Cale Dietrich's If This Gets Out is an absolute showstopper! Equal parts edgy and adorable, this bright, joyful book has everything I look for in a queer YA romance.” (Phil Stamper, best-selling author of The Gravity of Us)

Eighteen-year-olds Ruben Montez and Zach Knight are two members of the boy-band Saturday, one of the biggest acts in America. Along with their bandmates, Angel Phan and Jon Braxton, the four are teen heartbreakers in front of the cameras and best friends backstage. But privately, cracks are starting to form: Their once-easy rapport is straining under the pressures of fame, and Ruben confides in Zach that he’s feeling smothered by management’s pressure to stay in the closet.

On a whirlwind tour through Europe, with both an unrelenting schedule and minimal supervision, Ruben and Zach come to rely on each other more and more, and their already-close friendship evolves into a romance. But when they decide they’re ready to tell their fans and live freely, Zach and Ruben start to truly realize that they will never have the support of their management. How can they hold tight to each other when the whole world seems to want to come between them?

A little bit creepy

The narrator of this otherwise excellent MM romance is some middle-aged dude bent on making teenagers sound like bored CPAs. Worse, Ramon de Ocampo has limited voice range, so most of the characters sound alike. All of the male characters are either the narrator's regular voice or a disturbing gravelly voice. (He does, however, manage to do the voices of the female characters well. Go figure.) It gets worse, still. The first-person viewpoint switches from one character to another, but the voice of a creepy, 50-year-old tax preparer remains constant, making it impossible to determine which character is telling what part of the story. Imagine listening to one of the bald, poorly dressed older dudes from your company's finance department grow nostalgic for his youth and decide to regale you with stories about affairs he had back in the day. You just don't want to listen to a socially awkward old man talk about spooning and condoms and lube. It's creepy, and this audiobook has left me with a case of the heebie-jeebies.

Slow Romance, and true Friendship

Such a good book, was truly amazing to listen to. Made me feel so many emotions that I have related to, from coming out, and figuring out my own identity. To simply the different parental dynamics and diverse opinions of each story arc. 10/10 would recommend reading/ listening to this. Especially if you are fans of Red, White and Royal blue. Or Love Simon

A Fun, Fan-Fic-esque Tour de Force!

This story provides a great glimpse into the lives of a group of teen pop stars, and how they may struggle to be themselves under the pressures of management, branding, and money-making and stardom.

The characters are fun, and for the most part, relatable. While I do like Ramon De Ocampo as a narrator, I felt like this audiobook could have benefited from either having two separate narrators, or selecting someone else with more vocal range. A lot of De Ocampo’s voices sounded the same, and I was often confused with who was speaking.

Overall, I enjoyed it! It felt like I was on tour with these boys. Is it a little angsty at times? Sure. A little idyllic in others? Absolutely. But sometimes we need that in our crazy world.

Great book

This was a great book! Truly enjoyed that journey and seeing the boys personalities develop. Hopefully there will be another book peeking into their future.

Really enjoyed it

This is a great story. It didn't drag out the part about them getting together too much. It had a solid body and an interesting storyline. My only complaint is the ending is kinda weak.

It should get out! It’s amazing

Zack and Ruben have my heart! I ached for them and also wanted to bang their heads together, lol. They struggle with being true to themselves when it’s so easy to get lost in other peoples perceptions of them. Zack is figuring out who he is and what that means while Ruben feels like he’s disappointment. The heartache is real and I yelled at my phone more than once listening to this.

Life is hard but it’s harder in the public eye and even harder when the people who are supposed to support you tell you that you can’t come pout for your own good. Do you believe your team or your gut?

I loved this book. It took me through all the emotions. Ramon de Ocampo is superb. I love listening to him; he’s hands down my favorite narrator.

narrator doesn't match the story/characters.

He's not a bad narrator but doesn't fit well with the story imo. Good story though.

My dream

This is what I imagined my would have been if I were a pop star. It took me a bit to listen and understand who was speaking. Would be a great movie!

Ruben + Zach

I fell for Ruben and Zach immediately. I could not put this book down and ended up scouring the net for fanfiction. Ramon de Ocampo is an excellent narrator and he brought so much life to the characters. I keep replaying Zach's big gesture towards the end and I'm melting all over again.
