Story
On Christmas Eve, DCI Mackenzie Jones is called to a shooting at a remote farmhouse. Ralph Mallender believes his father lies dead inside. When three more bodies are discovered, it's clear a festive family gathering has turned into a gruesome tragedy. At first it seems like an open and shut case: a murder suicide committed by Ralph's volatile brother Cameron. Then new evidence makes Mack suspect the man who reported the crime is in fact the perpetrator. But Mack isn't the only one with a stake in the case.

Story
Bestselling mystery writer Lucy Harper's talent for invention has given her fame, fortune, and an army of adoring readers. It has also saddled her with dependents, namely her fawning husband Dan. When Dan suddenly goes missing, his disappearance evokes dark memories that take Lucy back more than thirty years—to the day her brother vanished without a trace. That's when Lucy began conjuring stories. The police investigation revealed few confirmed details, so she created tales to fill in the gaps, to explain what happened that day her brother disappeared—and Lucy was the only witness.

Publisher's Summary
From a terrific new voice comes a standout debut thriller in the vein of What She Knew and I Let You Go.
A woman in a coma. The man who could save her life - if only he could speak.
When young, beautiful Cassie Jensen arrives unconscious to the intensive care ward at St. Catherine's hospital after being struck in a hit-and-run while out walking her dog, chief nurse Alice Marlowe thinks she looks familiar. She starts digging deeper into Cassie's relationships, only to discover something about her patient that she'd been keeping secret from everyone, including her devoted husband and family. Soon Alice finds herself obsessed with her patient's past and future, even willing to put her own career on the line in her single-minded search for answers.
Frank, a patient on the same ward who has locked-in syndrome, can hear and see everything around him but cannot speak. Soon he comes to understand that Cassie's life is still in danger. While the police continue to look for clues, only Frank holds the truth, but he's unable to communicate it.
As the novel flashes between points of view, the listener will get closer and closer to the truth of who Cassie Jensen was and why she was out on the road that fateful night....

Excellent story
Alice, a nurse on 9B, at St. Kate's hospital is very protective of her patients - Frank, a stroke patient with locked in syndrome, and Cassie, a young woman in a coma, the victim of a hit and run. There's plenty of emotion and intrigue to go around here. I have to say, the mystery and suspense kept me going until the very end. I kept narrowing down my suspects and then going back to previous ones. It's amazing how dangerous, crazy people can look and act so normal. The book is good.
How terrible to be "locked in." To know everything that is going on around you, but being unable to speak, move, communicate. I loved Frank.

I try really hard not to give terrible reviews because I feel that it’s not fair to the author. However, this one lacked all suspense. It was like seeing the advertisement for a 48 Hours mystery and knowing the outcome before ever watching the show. Additionally, it was snail paced and something I forced myself to finish. On top of that, I had inadvertently touched the screen of my phone and had skipped ahead several hours and listened it near an hour before I noticed. Yes. That bad. I’m still kicking myself for returning to the earlier part of the book (and the hour it took to find the spot). For the final cherry on top, it’s the saddest most horrible ending. If you’re trying to decide whether or not to download:don’t. If you’re halfway through, just imagine the worst ending and know that’s what happened.
I might swear off all “Daily Deals” forever.

Gripping Story, Good Suspense
If You Knew Her has a few different scenarios going on at once. We have a wife in a come who's been in a terrible accident. Her mother in law and her husband seem to be completely out of sorts. They come to visit her every day, and it appears that there is more to the story than a random car accident. Because she's in a coma, and everyone else on the ward seems to be in close to vegetative states, more people here the whispers and secrets than her mother in law and husband suspect. In fact, one patient with locked in syndrome begins to communicate, and we find out that he heard all what was going on the whole time. As his communication skills improve, so does the intensity and stress of the story.
If you knew her was a good story with plenty of suspense. I only wish it could of had a happier ending, but I did enjoy it.

Unexpected stories
I was really expecting this book to be something like "Sleepyhead," when the poor girl with locked-in syndrome figures out the killer just in time. There was more heartbreak and more depth because it was a different story, of people's lives. The whodunnit part was quite minimal and I usually dislike books like this because I'm a solid police procedural person. I found the characters engrossing and the writing good. The narration was outstanding. It's always nice to really enjoy a book that you feel tepid about reading!
