Publisher's Summary

"I'll push you." The words came easily to Patrick. But he had no idea of the struggle that lay ahead.

Meet Justin and Patrick. Born in the same hospital two days apart, they grew up together, faced life shoulder to shoulder, and were best man in each other's weddings. It was the way things had always been. It was the way things were always going to be.

But then the unexpected struck - Justin was diagnosed with a progressive neuromuscular disease that robbed him of the use of his arms and legs. As Justin transitioned to life lived in a wheelchair, Patrick stayed by his side, and together they refused to give in to despair or physical limitations.

So when Justin shared his dream of traveling the famous Camino de Santiago - a spiritual pilgrimage through the mountains and rough terrain of Northern Spain - Patrick immediately volunteered to push Justin in his wheelchair. Their six-week, 500-mile trek, with its physical challenges, host of colorful characters, and deep inner battles, would prove to be the most difficult and important journey either man would ever take.

Full of love, humor, and faith, I'll Push You exemplifies what every friendship is meant to be. This epic travel adventure shows the incredible risk and reward that come with trusting someone else to have your back - no matter what. Discover how friendship can push all limits...and help us become the best versions of ourselves.

Mixed Feelings!

OVERVIEW: This is the slightly annoying story of 2 friends, (one of whom is confined to a wheelchair from a degenerative disease) who decide to tackle the monumental task of the 500 mile pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago together.

WRITTEN BY AND FOR: I’ll Push You is co-written by two best friends Patrick Gray and Justin Skeesuck. It is written for anyone who wants to read an inspiring story of overcoming adversity, accomplishing goals and the power of true friendship.

TAKEAWAYS: This book taught me that you can’t do it alone. Whatever “it” is, we really do need each other. It’s a powerful story of 2 guys accomplishing an incredible goal together.

DON’T BUY/READ THIS BOOK: I cannot take anything away from what Patrick and Justin accomplished together on completing the Camino however, I would not recommend buying or reading this book. I have read several accounts of the Camino pilgrimage and this account is the most self-absorbed that I have read to date. It was nauseatingly self-centered and self-aggrandizing and I felt as though the authors were completely unaware of the depth of meaning, historicity of the Camino and thriving Spanish culture. This book was about THEM! In my estimation the +800 year-old pilgrimage is meant to represent humility, contemplation and a the deeper meanings that the long process of “The Path” will teach you. Pat and Justin seemed pretty happy talking about themselves and how much they were accomplishing together. For instance they made it seem like the challenge of their ascent through the Pyrenees Mountains seem as if it was to last days if not weeks on end when in fact it was only one of their 30+ days on the Camino. This felt misleading. This along with the fact that film crews were there throughout, documenting the entire trek turned me off to the true meaning of the Camino. I feel like although they did it… somehow… they missed it.
Great accomplishment! I bow to their courage and perseverance… I wish them all the best but their account of their incredible pilgrimage me with a decisive feeling of… “meh”!

really inspiring

This is an incredible story to follow. It brings to pight what it means to truly value one another and how to let go and allow people to help. It really hit home to me on a personal level. i really reccomend this to anyone. The authors are also the narrator's, which is great but they are not professional voice actors so it is a bit monotone when they express ither people. It's not that off putting though. Reccomend highly

Challenges

Inspirational. Having had major abdominal surgery. Open heart surgery and now recovering from left hip arthroplasty, I feel that there is nothing that I can’t accomplish. as an veteran combat medic and nurse I learned early what team work means. I lost my way but this book has rekindled my flame.

Every person on the planet should listen to this

This is a wake-up call to those of us who take life for granted. The story of a man with a debilitating disease of the muscles and his friend who undertakes to push him from one end of the El Camino to the other. The hard, hard, hardships of the road. The people who help. The friendship. Lucky friends. God Bless You. I did feel though that your editor could have left out much of the inconsequential details about your youths. Not important. Detracted from the story. But the kernel remains. Life is about Love.
