Story
In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Fifteen-year-old Jeff wakes up on New Year's Day to find himself in the hospital. Make that the psychiatric ward. With the nut jobs. Clearly, this is all a huge mistake. Forget about the bandages on his wrists and the notes on his chart. Forget about his problems with his best friend, Allie, and her boyfriend, Burke. Jeff's perfectly fine, perfectly normal, not like the other kids in the hospital with him. Now they've got problems.

Entertaining narrative for a serious subject
- By Leslie H. Nicoll on 03-21-10
Publisher's Summary
I'm a therapist, and I work with the most dangerous patients.
I've seen it all.... A boy who planned to be the next school shooter. A patient with OCD whose loved ones really did suffer every time he missed a ritual. A choir boy who claimed he was being molested - not by a priest - but by God Himself. A patient with PTSD who gave me nightmares. A husband and wife who accused each other of abuse, and only one of them was telling the truth.
And how could I ever forget Patient #220.
The problem is, my patients have a habit of dying. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the common denominator. Or maybe that's just the cost of taking on exceptionally broken clients.
Either way, I'll never stop trying to help.

Remember — it’s fiction
At first I thought that this book was a real account of a therapists wildest patients and I wondered how many ethical violations that was... upon further investigation I realized that this was originally a reddit thread. It’s clear that even if the original author was using characters based off of real patients that the book highly dramatizes and fictionalizes these characters and events. I found some of the stories very suspenseful and thrilling and others to be a little cheesy but overall I liked it and I found myself wanting to listen to it while I drove, worked out, or even before bed. I recommend!

My New Favorite
My friend suggested this book to me a while ago and I kept getting ads for it. I had a 7 hour drive ahead of me and music and podcasts just weren’t doing it for me anymore. I downloaded Audible and this was the one I chose as my free book. I’m so glad I did. The narrator has a voice to match Dr.Harper perfectly. The twists are so well written. The character developments are amazing. I finished the book during the trip and listened to it again on my trip back home. I can’t wait until the second book is on here!

Dreadful, cliche and childish
I really should have done more research, this audiobook is up there with some of the worst I have ever come across. The stories themselves are terribly cliche and more akin to a 10 year old writing. The book is disjointed and tenuous at the best of times. I was truly expecting the ending to be a long the lines of ‘I woke up and it was all a dream’
Sadly this is a book with adult content levelled at children and I cannot recommend it whatsoever.

Fun! But a bit silly at times
I was hoping for a psychological thriller from the title. The story is more of a detective mystery. Still fun! But a bit more silly than I thought it would be. Don't go in expecting a realistic story.
