What you'll find here is practical magic: unique knowledge, drawn from a variety of sciences, revealing what charisma really is and how it works. You'll get both the insights and the techniques you need to apply this knowledge. The world will become your lab, and every person you meet, a chance to experiment.

In what doesn't sound like the best plan ever, David decided to overcome his fears by pretending to be a comedian called "Irish Dave" for one full year, crashing as many comedy clubs, festivals, and shows as possible.

Without good social skills, you may suffer from low self-esteem that may prevent you from going out, making friends, going on dates, getting your dream job, and just having the quality lifestyle you dreamed of. Social anxiety does not have to take over your life. In 2018, Steve Bressert stated in the Psych Central study, “Facts About Shyness”, that 40 to 60 percent of adults consider themselves shy, and for most people, shyness is something that is learned later in life. Hopelessly, these adults live life poorly, not being able to connect with anyone.

Misleading Title
I'm sorry to write a negative review, but this audiobook would be better titled "How To Be Conversationally Agreeable." If that's your goal, this book will reinforce some fairly basic rules of thumb, but it has precious little to offer those wanting to up their wit-game.

good flow and examples for conversations only
Once the author moves into the science of 'No', there are no citations, just their own limited judgement.
I just listened to Chris Voss 'Never Split the Difference ' and his real world examples from an FBI agent's perspective trump the authors here .
A decent book overall, just wish they 'stayed in their lane' or cited more sources when making a general assumption.

Succinct and Helpful
A really good book. Covers the basics of conversation. If you understand the fundamentals of conversation, don't expect epiphanies. Do expect solid, helpful reminders about what works...those things we know or have heard of, but have stopped incorporating into our daily practice in conversations. After all, even those of us who believe we're pretty good at conversation need to go back to the fundamentals over and over until those fundamentals become an unbreakable habit that we practice every day.

should be required reading or listening
depending on your preference. so much useful information on how to converse. starting with the yes and, yes really responses to keeping dialog flowing to the HPM template on never being stuck for a response and so much more. As a bonus the book is to the point and a short read or listen. the author doesn't belabor points to pad the book. here is the message a couple examples and moves on. more authors should take note less is sometimes more and in this case it is in spades.

Missing link to other conversation books
This book is short and sweet. The author connects the dots between many techniques that I have heard about having good conversation. His ideas are practical and easy to start while his examples of successful and unsuccessful attempt gave me several, “ah ha” and “awh shoot” moments. I feel more self aware with a guide to improve.

A couple tidbits
The author has a few tidbits in this book that I wouldn’t of thought of - techniques to think about to improve a conversation with people you don’t know well. But then the rest of the book is nothing new it’s all “ listen better” “ don’t think about was going to say next - don’t interrupt “. So maybe the tidbits were worth the read ?
