Unfortunate

This is a really cool story and would be alot of fun to listen to if it had a talented narrator reading it. unfortunately, the narrator is not talented at all and really turns an otherwise good book into a tedious and boring listening experience. They should really let the author listen to a few chapters before hiring a voice actor. If I were this author, I would be so upset. Really unfortunate 😕

Outstanding concept, terrible hero

I love the time travel concept, the devices and very much loved the idea of a chronothon race. The various settings were great, as well. The one thing that almost ruined the series for me, more times than I can count, is the stupidity of the main character, Ben. I didnt think it possible for an author to have their hero make the wrong decision almost EVERY time a decision was made. After a while, it was so bad that I couldnt even root for the protagonist of the story; thus leaving me emotionally uninvested in the story.

Benjamin takes #1 of the dumbest characters I've ever read. That said, the rest of the series is enough to make up for it, enough to keep listening at least. The rest of the cast was great. But, my God, the lack of common sense and any mental acuity was hard to listen to. I wish it could be rewritten with Mim or Carson as the lead.

Just started... will edit later...

Just wanted to jump in by saying that I really like this narrator! In fact, I found this book because I liked his other books in the litrpg genre which also happen to be time-related. So don't listen to other reviewers... listen to a sample instead!

I should have listened

I went through a few reviews and they had this series at a five. There were a few folks that gave this a three or lower. Those were the right reviews. I am at chapter 21 and each chapter makes me when how much dumber can the characters get. It’s as if the writer asks “what would a stupid person do and writes it down. By the time I got that far I was hoping the killer would get them all so we could start over. Save your money.

Light hearted SciFi at its best!

this is by far one of the most well thought out and detailed series about time travel and all that goes along with it. It's got a little bit of everything, adventure, action, love, family. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to everyone.

Reviewing as I go... Narrator blew it, badly

First book is nearly unlistenable. Characters don't understand simple logic and the narrator does a VERY poor job. Rushing through every sentence, then a hard stop each time throws the pacing out the window. Life threatening climaxes are read with the same cadence as walking down the street or eating a sandwich. No differentiation of characters either, they all speak in the same nasally voice and mouth breathing throughout. I'll be avoiding anything read by Neil Hellegers permanently after this!

Second book is narrated somewhat better, but still not great. Large number of misread words, and a tendecy to lose track of the little bit of inflection when switching who is speaking. Characters are still about as intelligent as a box of rocks, missing obvious things. At least one major plot hole.

Improving, but not expecting much...

Engaging story from start to end

Very enjoyable characters, the premise was not the usual time travel story. The twists and turns kept you on your toes. Very glad that the author kept the key characters engaged and alive so that we can enjoy them right to the end. The reader did an excellent job and it was easy to tell which character was speaking and that drew you in which made it much more enjoyable. I have read all of Nathan Van Coops time travel books and they are all wonderful I highly recommend them.

Great for time travel lovers!

Great stories, only 2 in so far and loving it. Yea the narrator was annoying in the first book, sounded like a grown man trying to talk like a child the whole time. Good news is that he gets better in the second book and the story is still great!

wonderful story

Probably the best series of books I've listened to this year, maybe ever. If you like time travel, these books are a must listen.

There isn't a better deal on audible.

I'd read all of these back when they were released, but enjoying them again in audio has been amazing.

Such a fantastic world that Nathan has built, I love it and the friends I have recommended it to love it just as much.

Disappointed

unfortunately I cannot comment on the story at all,as I could not even get past the first chapter. The narration is truly awful, this guy needs a new vocation. He has no feeling and seems to speak at high speed when speaking for different characters. A real shame.

Wish I could listen to the story

Was really looking forward to 60+ hours of a time travel Sci fi, but couldn't get through 10 minutes of the narrator so can't comment on the story itself. Highly recommend listening to a sample before purchasing.
