What A Wonderful Collection By A Fantastic New Author

Andrew Heaton is an heir to Bradbury, Dick, King, Vonnegut, & weirdly enough, Wolff (Tobias, not Virginia). Mordant. Droll. Masterfully plotted stories that are crisp, hilarious, & occasionally, terrifying. On top of which, Andrew is an extraordinarily gifted reader of his own work. Incredible debut. I hope Andrew Heaton is prolific!

Funnier and smarter Black Mirror

A funnier, smarter Black Mirror. Similar to To Hold Up the Sky by Liu Cixin, often times more lighthearted but equally thought provoking

devoured this in 2 days

some of these stories could justifiably be considered this generation's hitch hikers guide to the Galaxy. each one ends just short of a resolution, but he leaves that up to the reader.

Fantastic

Best new fiction book I've heard in a long time! Every story had me ignoring emails and phone calls until I finished. My only complaint is that Heaton didn't offer to deliver it to me on horseback.

A fun collection of stories.

A little Scalzy, a little Wier and a huge comedic heart!
You will laugh hard. You will find excellent observations on humans that are universal even though their situations are unique and not overly dramatic!
"My teacher says "Adults don't tell fairytales to show that monsters aren't real, kids know they are real, but to show them that monsters can be defeated.""
We enjoyed all the stories even though they were quite different from one another. All the protagonists were "real, solid people doing their best in the strange situations these various worlds throw at them. No heros but plenty of grit and courage... and humor... from good natured smart humans. Boy, that sounds dull, but the book is not dull, but it is refreshing to not need superheroes!

My wife came up with a working hypothesis for how he wrote a few of the Way-Off-The-Wall stories - he starts with a set of random words like Zombie, Economics, Mormons, Plug-in Hybrid, Tobacco, Sororities, and weaves a compelling tale ! We had extra fun guessing the seed words in such stories.

We are looking forward to more of his work, especially a full-length story for him to weave.

Great read!

This collection is full of terrific stories. Though they aren’t all comedy, most had me laughing so hard my face hurt!

Stupendous!

Lovely! Hilarious and thought-provoking! I am in love with this author and more stores like these. Keeping an eye open for any more to come out- hopefully soon. Really enjoyed this much more that I thought I would and bought a physical copy for my dad. Will listen again and again to this. Thank you for writing these stories! They made my week!

Wonderfully human!

I immensely enjoyed these short stories, I bought the book being a fan of Heaton's other stuff and I heard one of the stories and thought it would be fun.

What I found was a rare gem with stories and humor like that of Douglas Adam's, I've already recommended it to all my friends.

Heaton at his glorious best.

Wonderful stories told well. Witty and intelligent. Buy this man another blazer. Or at least a waistcoat.

Thoroughly brilliant

This collection of short stories is everything. It’s funny, heartfelt, heartbreaking, and really good sci fi. I never knew this intelligent comedian could also be such a brilliant author. Except for a tiny overlap in the whistler short story, the production was excellent. Heaton has a tonne of experience as a podcast host, a comedian, and some as an actor, all of which comes through in his reading of this audiobook. I thoroughly recommend this!

No no no! Where’s the rest of it!

A lovely collection of short stories, I found myself fully immersed in a few of the stories so much that I was almost frustrated there wasn’t more. Very witty and funny, sometimes felt like deep self reflection thinly veiled with sci-fi and comedy. I highly recommend this.
