No Bad Boy Here! 💋

Romance novels seem to focus on bad boys as lead characters so I was delighted that the Hero (Drake) in this book was a nice, sweet, sexy and very normal man. The heroine (Lucy) is also quite ordinary yet there are issues with her estranged family. As the story of Lucy and Drake builds, we witness their strong attraction grow into a loving relationship, yet the shadow of Lucy's past influences their future together. It's a well written story of learning from past mistakes and focusing on a future of better choices.

I appreciate great narration and Tracy Marks did it again with this book. She is always consistently good and one of the few narrators who enhance the enjoyment of audio books. Tracy is one of the rare narrators that you can actually "hear" smile. Such a delight! 😉

💕 Note: This is definitely an adult romance. The story is engaging, unpredictable, seductive and does have detailed sex scenes and some strong language. 💕

It was my pleasure to review this book and I'm grateful to the author, narrator, or publisher for providing me this audiobook at no cost in exchange for my unbiased review because I enjoyed the listen. I recommend this book and I will be getting the next in this series.

3.5 Likable Stars

Drake Prescott is a Senator and Lucy Washburn is a teacher. They meet and have some pretty great chemistry. But the thought of dating a Senator puts Lucy in a bit of a tails spin.

Drake has a strong sense of duty to his country. So his campaign needs to reflect that. Ben his right hand man kind of rubs, makes her uncomfortable Lucy the wrong way. I do with that Drake and addressed some of the things Ben does a little sooner. But that’s my opinion.

One of the reasons she didn't really want to date a Senator was her past. And what it could mean for his career and her career.

As there story unfolds you get to see them be each other’s support and that is pretty cool if you ask me.

I very much enjoyed the narration of this audio book as well. Worth the read YES!

RARE Perfection! Thanks 4 Offering FANTASTIC Book

Okay, I may be over the billionaire/innocent phase, I will never, ever get tired of the Man saves Woman, Woman saves Man scenario! What the heck am I talking about? Great question.

The heroine is Lucy Washburn, she had crappy childhood and past and she is done everything that she can to overcome and put that behind her.

Drake Prescott is a manly, sexy – of course – everything a woman could want in a man kind of guy. The only goal he was not able to pursue was that entrance to the military to serve the country he loves. However, he has become a US senator who is up and coming with his eye on the ultimate service to the USA – becoming the president of the United States.

Crash! Lucy meets Drake or Drake meets Lucy and the sparks fly! Almost every aspect you can think of is touched upon in their story. Secret past for Lucy, introducing Lucy to Drake's family, love, lust, steadfast devotion from Drake, scared to commit from Lucy...

Joanne Schwinn, thank you, thank you, thank you. It is about time that someone wrote a book that features characteristics, patriotism, rule of law, etc. in this way.

This is the first book that I have listen to that comes close to my point of view. I love almost everything that Drake Prescott encompasses. I also love Lucy who has overcome so much – on her own – and is beginning to see the fruits of her labor.

This book echoes the hearts of so many who are brushed off as uncaring hypocrites and shows that compassion that can be seen if you just take a moment, stop listening to loud voices and get to know the personal story.

I feel like if I continue, I will inadvertently spoil the book and I do not want to do that.

The publishers summary gives you just enough information to peak your interest and I hope that my review adds to it. It is not a hard line left or right novel. It is, hopefully, an eye-opener that shows good people exist, even in politics!

I am so bummed that Audible does not have any more in the series yet. I would USE AS MANY credits as books there were for this author. This first book in the series sets a pretty high mark for any follow-up, but I will buy them! Fortunately, *I was given this book in exchange for my review.

I highly recommend it to anyone who likes contemporary romance with a little bit of spice.

I will also be first in line to buy the next in the series and the next and the next!

Notes: Mature themes and some strong language. It also contains a political hot button topic that would spoil if I listed it.

♥ I read the reviews of others before I purchase a book. If you found my review helpful in your decision about this book, would you please select yes directly below this paragraph? Thank you so much. Please consider "following me" here on Audible.com.

Volume 1

What did you like best about this story?

Senator Drake Prescott is the hot sexy incumbent and when he sets his sights on Lucy Washburn he is completely attracted to her! Lucy has history that could prove detrimental to their future. This makes for an emotional journey of discovery as I listen and I couldn't put it down!. Given the political storyline, launching this book at a time when everones focus is on the political arena is perfect.

Very good story - narration needs work

I enjoyed this story in a genre I've never listened to before, politics. I enjoyed the characters and story, but the narration needed more inflection and emotion.

A SWEET Romance!

Any additional comments?

This was such a sweet story!!

Notes worth mentioning for this book:

Great cover - cute, and eyecatching ;)

If the title didn't clue you in then the description probably did: this book has elements of politics but no matter which party you support, reading this book won't get your back up.

DRAKE IS SUCH A GOOD GUY!

LUCY IS SUCH A GOOD WOMAN!

I am absolutely blaming my reading tastes of late. I blame my unhealthy diet of Motorcycle Club books and T.M. Frazier's stories I have been scarfing down that have given me a big dose of dark JERK Heroes. (Hmm. JEROES?) Do I enjoy those books? Heck yes, I'm happy and horrified the whole way through. But it has been so long since I've read about a normal guy - one who never harms the heroine, never cheats on her, never verbally abuses her - that I was tickled to listen to Drake's story unfolding. Yay for Nice Guys!! And Lucy? No sniveling, whiny, snipey, weepy, Mary-Sue here. She's normal. She's NICE.
The romance unfolded so sweet. The book clipped along at a great pace, I thought I knew where it was going but WOW I was wrong!

I liked the story very much. I am so glad to see this is a series! I can't wait to find out how relationships play out for the other Prescott's in the family - and I hope Mason + G get together!

Let's talk audio:

Great sound quality, absolutely no complaints. This was the first time I've heard Tracy Marks and her voice is great. Easy on the ears, reads with inflection, paced well; lovely job!!

Until They Meet

I find it very fitting that the summary ends Lucy's description with "Until she meets him" and Drake's description with "Until he meets her." Each of them are on a very separate road before they meet and both of them are trying to stay under the radar in regards to what their life dreams really are.
Though the chemistry at their first meeting is off the charts (which I love) they're both cautiously weighing the pros and cons of letting go of their well made plans in pursuit of love.
I liked the maturity and strength of both the characters as well as their love for their friends and families. It was wonderful to read a slightly bittersweet love story without screaming "What were you thinking?" at one of the characters because they did something supremely dumb.
Romance, heat, the reluctance to fall in love and a secret that could ruin it all. These are all ingredients for a stellar love story.
Tracy Marks narration only added to it all with her timing and effervescent voice which was perfect for this story.

Incumbent

What did you love best about Incumbent?

I loved reading the love story between a politician and a teacher.
Lucy hides some secrets and she is hesitant (for reasons that become obvious as the story progresses) at first to start a relationship with Drake, but Drake is persuasive. He is honest in his pursuit of Lucy and makes it hard for her to resist the connection between them.

I loved the flow of the story, both characters background were written well. We got to meet two mature people and see them fall in love.

I enjoyed the fact this wasn't a purely erotic book, no instant hook up , but a slow buildup of the relationship and passion. The sex scenes were hot and fit into the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked both Lucy and Drake.

Lucy for turning her life around, having the courage to leave her family behind and start a new life.

She could have done the easy thing and stayed at her hometown and forever be unfulfilled, but instead choose to start a new life with better people around her.

She made the choices she had to and lived to regret them, but I was happy she found the strength to forgive herself.

I liked Drake as a person and as a politician.

From the first scene he appeared in, the Q&A with Lucy's students, he was honest and didn't try to preach, wasn't condescending but answered truthfully.

He wasn't the typical Republican politician (if there is such a thing) .

I was moved by his reaction to Lucy's secret and his actions that led to her finding closure.

What aspect of Tracy Marks’s performance would you have changed?

There wasn't enough distinction between the various characters. Several times, I found myself trying to figure out which characters POV I was listening to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I unfortunately didnt have the time for it, but the story and writing were top notch and I was looking forward to the next chapter in Lucy and Drakes story.

Any additional comments?

A very enjoyable political romance, with a strong heroine, a good and decent male politician, good sex and a satisfying HEA.
