Horrible in the best way
I mean in terms of the story being about complex broken people. Reader beware, this is not a story about saints doing good deeds and not all the good guys get to ride into the sunset. There is a bit of plot contrivance but otherwise the story is compelling, if dark.

Probably My Favorite So Far
Wow! I’m slowly making my way through the Mortal Engines books and Infernal Devices is easily my favorite book so far. Not at all what I would have expected. In aging up the characters, Philip Reeve shows the way that bad mistakes can truly destroy lives and lends ambition and scope to his story. Can’t wait to start the final book.

Another Mortal adventure
What did you like most about Infernal Devices?
This book picks up the story of the characters from Predators Gold fifteen years later. The story moves along at quite a pace, linking and interweaving characters from the past.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Wren is the new central character, Tom and Hester's daughter, who is whisked away in a limpet submarine to the strange, bohemian city of Brighton. Here characters new and old come together for a thrilling ending.
Which character – as performed by Barnaby Edwards – was your favourite?
Great vocalisation of all the characters, but Cynthia Twite is probably my favourite.

Great Story, with an even better Performance!
I'm sad that these books seem so short, possibly would be better if the whole series was made one MASSIVE audiobook and could be played back to back. Otherwise, once again, a cracking listen. Barnaby Edwards is a great reader, emotive and imaginative. The jump forward in time from the first two books is a great story device and only increases the wide world of the mortal engines series.

this was a lot harder than the previous two, took a lot to get going and somehow they managed to make the main characters very unlikeable not counting Tom of course but he's barely a shadow. I feel this is setting up for the final and because of that, it's a needed read. I'm curious about where the story will go next.
