Editor's Pick

Awake, asleep, or going mad?
To me, the best thrillers are the ones that get under my skin and make me think. That is exactly the state Sarah Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes left me in. The secrets, the deceptions, and a pinch of paranormal kept me attached to my headphones until the mind-blowing ending. When I saw that she was releasing a new title, I had to get my hands on it. Insomnia revolves around lawyer Emma Averell, a busy mom who is approaching her 40th birthday. As the days get closer and closer to Emma’s birthday, her behavior becomes increasingly erratic, and she begins to believe that her family is in danger—or is she the danger her family needs protection from? Insomnia is a classic example of a perfect psychological thriller. And I’ll admit I’m looking forward to staying up all night to listen. —Patty K C., Audible Editor

Brilliant, Original, Very Creepy

This book will speak for itself.
It’s been a long time since I’ve read anything so well written and so completely unique.
Sarah Pinborough is utterly in a league all her own.
Prolific, atmospheric, eloquent, scary (like really this one made me turn the lights on late night) I was instantly hooked by the end of the first couple of chapters.
Her stuff can be hit or miss, this one is a huge hit.
I will definitely be giving it a second listen in a month or two. It was extremely entertaining, incredibly creepy, filled with thoroughly well developed characters, and narrated exceptionally well.
Five stars stars all the way.

Strong Start, Weak Ending

The story started out interesting. A successful, normally stable woman fearing she might be beginning to break with reality as her own mother had at the same age. I found it intriguing & enjoyable- until it all was clarified at the end. At that point the believability took a nosedive & my rating dropped to a 3 for Story, and a grudging 4 for overall. The narrator did a fantastic job.

Repetitive

Repeats back history way too much
and each feeling or thought is repeated constantly

Disappointing

A potentially good plot idea but not well execute d. Too much explanation required at the end.

Baffled by the good reviews...

I really did not like this story. The main character was completely unsympathetic and made ridiculous decisions again and again. The one responsible for all the events that unfolded was easy to identify a mile away and I finally stopped listening once the motives were revealing themselves because they were far-fetched and I just didn't care anymore. The narrator"s performance was solid and the only praise I have for the book. I would not recommend.

Delivered the mind-bending twist!

4.5 on Goodreads
I spent most of the book disliking the main character, Emma. The final chapters of the book made this one worth the listen. I listen to a lot of thrillers that promise twists. Much like Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes, this one delivered. The narration was fantastic from start to finish.

I didn’t finish

The author is very hit or miss with me. The story dragged on and was pretty predictable. Not a fan at all.

AMAZING

What a great book and storyline. You will be hooked from the beginning. The reader is also amazing. Switches voices for each character and makes for great listening. This is my first Sarah Pinborough book, won't be my last.

Well handled story progression.

She kept me guessing from beginning to end. I had it all worked out at least three times. Coming from a dysfunctional family myself, it was easy to get entangled with Emma.
The reader was enthralling with just the correct feeling for each of the characters lovely book, can't wait for the next one..
