Dark look into the mind of a psychopath...........

Inspired by Murder is darker than the first book in this series featuring police detectives in the Seattle Homicide Department, but it is equally good. While one of the main characters, Detective Blake Stephenson, was introduced in the first book, this second book can easily be enjoyed as a standalone. The story is told from two different perspectives as it follows Stephenson while he investigates a string of strangulation murders and a psychiatrist named Dr Eric Leroy as he plans the murders of several people in order to add realism to the book he is writing. Although the author tells us from the beginning the identity of the villain, it was intriguing to watch Stephenson and his partner try to piece the puzzle together to arrive at the correct conclusion. I really liked the strong and smart character of Stephenson, but I also found myself so caught up in the drama playing inside the murderer's head, that I almost wanted him to get away with his crimes. The book was at times disturbing and at times almost comedic in the darkest sort of way, but I thoroughly enjoyed all of it.

Patrick Zeller's narration is excellent. He has a very smooth delivery, and his performance is flawless. I might not be a good judge, but I think he handles the Australian accent of Dr Leroy very well, and he adds just the right amount of emphasis to portray the characters' emotions without being over the top dramatic.

A compelling and unique thriller

A doctor plots a murder, that he intends to write about to become famous. Can someone so smart committ the perfect murder?

The story builds up well and unravels at a good pace. The point of view of the killer is interesting, albeit could have been more informative of his reasons. The point of view of the detective was well portrayed and linked cleverly to the elements of the killer. It was refreshing to hear a story from this different perspective knowing who the killer was upfront and hearing the story unravel from that perspective.

I liked the narrator. He had good intonation and energy and had good tones of voice to add the right amount of suspense where required.

Note: This book was given to me for free at my request and i provided this objective review voluntarily.

Good Read

Inspired by Murder (Emerald City Thriller #2) was another good read by Audrey J. Cole. Dr. Eric Leroy wants to become a famous author. He is a psychiatrist who becomes exhausted after years of listening to his rich clients wallow. He has his most obnoxious patient in mind when he plans to murder her for his next book plot. A famous Seattle resident and his wife are found dead and Detective Blake Stephenson doesn't believe it was a murder-suicide. The Detective uncovers a dark past filled with secrets while he's investigating Dr. Leroy. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

totally captivating

I liked Eric's answer to problems-KILL!!! LOL. I'm not sure why, but I rooted for Eric to evade the cops. The cops ex girlfriend was a conniving skeeve, plus she tried to ruin his new relationship with a fellow cop. Low!! I got pulled in with the storyline and narration and it was all so believable it captivated me. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review.

Delightful, wonderful, exciting

This is the second time I have listen to this audio, it was just as good as the first time. The author puts a little bit of everything in it from humor, thrills and even a few surprises. I really enjoyed the plot, just as I thought I had it all worked out the author throws a twist that really surprises you. I thought it was well thought out, giving wonderful twists and turns, even a touch of romance that hold your attention from the first page until the last.

The narrator did a wonderful job with the character voices, you always knew who was talking and what they were feeling. I thought it was just as good the second time as the first time. There are no background noise, no repeating of words and no volume changes, it is a very clear audio that keeps you hanging on to every word. He really put true emotions in to the characters, really showing their pain, passion and anger. The characters that needed accents he did a wonderful job, I really felt the pain of the sister in law who’s sister is missing and thought to be dead. I really can’t wait to listen to more of his work.

What you needed to know is that this is a thrilling listen that holds your attention, keeps you hanging on and is a very hard audio to put down. The plot is well thought out, with wonderful twists and turns, thrilling, exciting with a great ending. This is a grade A book with a delightful narrator that just puts the icing on the cake.

Inspired book plot

I really enjoyed this book. I think I liked it so much because I couldn't believe the killer could get away with what he did and I had to keep listening to find out how they eventually catch him. The story is told from two perspectives the killer and the detective trying to catch him, which is a clever way of building up the suspense because you hear all the mistakes the killer makes or how he thinks he got away with it and then you hear the detectives side, as they work it out. There is a few mysteries that you don't know the answer to until the end, keeping the story interesting. I will definitely be looking out for more books by this author.
Lost for inspiration for the big story that will make him famous as an author, psychiatrist Dr Eric Leroy hits on a new plan to help him with his writers block. Kill his most annoying patient and frame her poor husband for the murder because let's face it he will be doing him a favour. Things for the doctor don't go to plan and he has to improvise but believing he has got away clean he starts to write only to find two detectives at his door questioning him about the dead body of someone else. Detective Blake Stephenson knows the doctor's reaction to the news is wrong and he and his partner dig deeper but as the body count starts to rise the only common ground between all the bodies is the doctor. They just need to find some evidence to prove them right before the next body drops.
I liked the narrator and even the Australian accent for the doctor was good. I would listen to this narrator again and defiantly if he is reading a book in this series.

Great!

Another great story from Audrey Cole, this book kept me interested right from the first few minutes. Although you know more or less who and what from early on there some unexpected twists at the end. Patrick Zeller does a great job of the narration, his ability to switch between the American and Australian accents is great. Highly recommended read. ***** I look forward to listening to much more of this author.

Very good plot which keeps you gripped

I really enjoy the style of the writing in this book. The characters are easy to imagine and the portrayal of them fits well. It is a very well layed out plan with trying out a murder before writing your book. I feel it is easy to follow and you are quickly drawn into the plot.
