Story
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Publisher's Summary
At a shadowy company (Karoli Robotics Corporation) owned by a Sillicon Valley billionaire, a scientist named Jim creates an AI that can fool the Turing test at the same time as his colleague, Daniel, successfully synthesizes DNA in a test tube. Daniel's attempts to reanimate dead chimps using his discovery have been unsuccessful, but when his friend Laura Bocelli is killed by being trapped inside a lab freezer, Daniel is presented with the perfect specimen. However, Laura is irreparably brain dead.
Daniel and Jim join forces to reanimate Laura using the DNA technology as well as the AI, creating a brilliant but psychopathic new Laura.
A year later a young journalist starts digging into the new CEO of Karoli Robotics Corporation, Laura Bocelli, and finds more than she bargained for. Laura will do anything to protect her secret and her plan to engineer a race of AI Cyborgs made in her image.

Can't recommend
Pro's: Production was awesome. Actors were 1st rate. Story premise was outstanding.
Con's: 4 hr experience for monthly credit of $16.12. For some crazy reason they decided to say the credits about every half hour, Be warned if you listen to this book you will hear all of the credits at least 9 times! You will know all of the actors, the music guy the studio manager and even the runner, whatever that is etc. etc., The credits last about 30 seconds each time they run. Extremely annoying!
So although it is an outstanding production, I can't recommend using a credit on it. I would recommend it on a daily deal. You can click on my name and see I give honest reviews.

Meh
NO SPOILERS! It kind of dragged along but was an ok mystery. The concept was intriguing. The sound effects were good except there parts in the book that sounds like crickets. It made no sense as a background noise because they were not outside. I like to listen in bed and fall asleep but the noise would stress me out.
Overall, I couldn’t decide what the book wanted to be: mystery, comedy, drama, suspense, tech thriller? I wish it just picked a lane because in the end it was all over the place.

Just right for an Audible Plus book
I was drawn in by the premise of the story and it was overall ok. Very good production and narration. But the story was too short and the ending was underwhelming. This was ok for a book that was included with the Audible membership.
I actually enjoyed the personality of the journalist the most.

A few really good voice actors, a somewhat compelling story.
Let me start off with, I am a biochemist with expertise in bioinformatics covering neural networks and there use in protein structure prediction. Putting aside some of the more outlandish jumps from scientific theories to explanations offered in the book, the overall story, pace, and delivery comes together for an incredibly decent thriller that I couldn’t help but come back too. There are some surprising twists, and the author handled shifting perspectives quite well. Overall it felt like a book heavily inspired by movies such as Terminator, Transcendence, and Eagle Eye.
What I most enjoyed was the fact this story focused around a very deep and emerging topic of AI and how it is being used to modulate many facets of our life, such as phones, laptops, big data analysis, etc.
It makes for a more compelling story/thriller which could very easily be translated to the screen with ease.
I would highly recommend it to those who are interested in a sci-fi thriller. I would be interested in seeing a follow up to the story.

Slightly Flawed Design
I always look forwards to the Audible dramas, they have produced some real crackers in the past. I didn't think this was quite up there with them though and the key weakness is with the story. The sound design is good, I enjoyed the original music though anyone listening in noisy conditions may find it occasionally intrusive and at times it seemed a little overdone and where it should have scored with big hitting sounds it seemed quiet, such as gunshots..
I also liked the performances, a couple of great voices in there but, apart from the fact that about two minutes of opening and closing credits were repeated every half hour it was the story that never quite hit the mark. I liked the start and everything seemed very contemporary but the threat, the solution and to be honest the character behaviour seemed very old fashioned sci-fi rather than anything cutting edge.
It's an enjoyable enough way to spend a few hours but not up there with the very best.

great story, great performance, annoying format
great story (although the core story has been done many times). the performance is good but the pseudo-episodic nature really annoyed me. having to listen to a full credits list (that hardly changes) every 30-40 minutes annoys and takes me out of the story. I understand audible trying to get into the podcast scene, but if he whole story goes out at once, play it as a whole, or at least skip the lengthy credits. there's also a few editing errors included, so not perfect. overall though, I really enjoyed this, and my only gripes are with the format

Ok but entirely too predictable
Well performed and with a fairly witty script at times. But the story and the twists are so obvious you can spot them hours before they eventually get round to happening. And I just didn’t buy the supposed failure of Roscoe to understand the most basic thing about what it was Manzarek had invented - if Roscoe’s genius is appreciating others’ genius, he would have learned the difference between a learning neural network and a defined programme.
