Story
In a boarded-up house on a dead-end street at the edge of the wild Washington woods lives a family of three. A teenage girl who isn’t allowed outside, not after last time. A man who drinks alone in front of his TV, trying to ignore the gaps in his memory. And a house cat who loves napping and reading the Bible. An unspeakable secret binds them together, but when a new neighbor moves in next door, what is buried out among the birch trees may come back to haunt them all.

Homicide detective Bryan Clauser is losing his mind. How else to explain the dreams he keeps having - dreams that mirror, with impossible accuracy, the gruesome serial murders taking place all over San Francisco? ☠ 💀 ☠ Tons of gore ☠ 💀 ☠
I don't know what it is about gory horror that I just love so much! It's like a guilty pleasure! Now Intercepts is my kind of horror! There was gore, ohhhh was there gore! There was this delicious, menacing taunting that kept me wondering and on my toes! I found myself liking most of the characters, even though they weren't all particularly bad, they weren't good either. Anyway this was a great book to put to horror. The author really created some creepy, horrible scenes (it was great!!).
The narration was just fantastic but I'm not shocked... it's Joe Hempel and he's a favorite narrator of mine. Joe always speaks clear and crisp... strong. I can hear him across the room, if need be. However, he isn't loud. I like that in horror novels he doesn't generally put a lot of emotions into his voice. Instead of living the life of the characters, it's like he's reading to me, which I prefer to be honest. I went back and forth on the screaming and moaning. At first I had wished that there was some Interscept noise in the book... some do those types of things. But I think I prefer it this way the best.

So many reasons to listen to this one...
I have so many horror titles in my library, but this one has just soared to my list of favorites. For the sensitive listener, sorry it’s not for you! R-rated!! But as a fierce parent, I am so on board here. This is a story of a great father that would move heaven and earth for his daughter. We go through his struggles with his job and his family... everything is upended. Everything is revealed! The whole “what’s done in the dark will be brought to the light” in the worst possible way... yeah... this book has it. This book had me listening everywhere I went and I couldn’t get enough. I’m glad I bought it. It’s not your usual scary story and I look forward to seeing more from this author. The delivery from this narrator was awesome as well!! I’ll be looking for more from both of these guys in the future!!

Creepy, Gory Fun
I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but what I was given was pretty excellent. Joe's a workaholic at a research facility doing bad things in the name of good (aren't they all?). His wife dies so now he's gotta worry about his daughter and the emotional toll on the both of them. Then there's the test subjects whose presence goes from the kind of thing he only has to deal with at work, to starting to seep into his and his daughter Riley's home life. In the middle there's plenty of blood and gore and creepy scenes to keep you interested as they hurtle towards a pretty solid ending.
The narrator did a great job of portraying the characters and the mood of the piece, such that things are ratcheted up rather than remaining too calm and losing the impact of the story.

Great Horror Story - Not Predictable
Just when I thought I had it all figured out, it went in a different direction. As a fan of Horror Books this is one that kept me interested the entire time! Narrator did a wonderful job of sharing the story. I would definitely recommend this book and I am actually looking up T.J. Payne to see what else I can read or listen to.

Truly Fantastic
To say that I enjoyed this story would be a massive understatement. 'Intercepts' grabbed me right from the top and pretty much derailed all productivity until it was over. Seriously, I couldn't put it down! T.J. Payne does an incredible job of weaving a tale that I wasn't able to anticipate with characters that felt real. No spoilers, but the ending is super satisfying, which is something I've grown to expect will NOT be the case. Joe Hempel does an expert job of narration, as always, breathing life into the characters and making the story easy and compelling to follow. 10/10 I would recommend this book to absolutely anyone who enjoys interesting horror stories!!

Really enjoyed this book. Great right from the start. Just when you think things are getting back to normal, it starts up again. Perfectly gory. Narrator did a great job. With the right director, it would make an entertaining movie. I didn’t use a credit, but would not be disappointed if I did.

Thoroughly Enjoyed This Listen
This is a really neat story. At first, I was a little skeptical because the prologue was a bit weird, but once the story started it really got good and I couldn’t stop listening. I would say after you listen to the story you should go back and listen to the prologue again as that made a lot more sense after I understood what that was all about. Other than the paranormal aspects and some of the gory details, I didn’t really think of this as a horror story. Nothing about it really scared me outside of the government doing shady stuff which should scare everyone. I felt like this was more of a thriller with some supernatural elements. Regardless of what you classify this as, it was an excellent story that kept me on the edge of my seat and one I would recommend.
The plot was quite interesting, had a Stargate Project feel. I don’t think the concept was all that new but the implementation of it was spectacular. Throughout the story I often was questioning if the reality we are being presented was indeed reality. As Riley started questioning her visions, I too started feeling the need to question things. The ending was amazing, definitely was exactly how the book should have ended and provided the silver lining to the otherwise tragic story.
I really liked the characters. Even though Joe is a workaholic who chose his work over his family, I thought he was a decent guy who truly cared about his daughter. I liked his development throughout the story as he realizes how poor of a father he is and how he finally steps up. The antenna’s reminded me a bit of the precogs from Minority Report crossed with the creepy girl from the ring.
Joe Hempel did a fantastic job. His ability to bring the words to life and really make you feel them is second to none. The tension he brings to this story was perfect and he definitely lulls you into a need to keep listening.

Big Bore & Some Gore
If this was supposed to be a horror novel, then we need to make a new genre called “Horror Lite” for this snoozer of a book.
A more accurate description of this book would be Science Fiction. Yes, gross things happened that were just gross and not all that scary. However, some wacky science was driving the this boring bus of a book with four flats and a dragging muffler.
Fair warning, if this book scares you, please do yourself a favor and don’t read King’s scarier books like It.
Side note: has anyone else noticed that under several books, the reviews repeat themselves as though someone copied and pasted three or four reviews a posting or two under where those copied reviews first appeared?

a little slow to get going but an excellent ending
I found this a little bit slow to get going, and found myself wondering "where's the horror?" for the majority as apart from some quite gruesome depictions, nothing really shocking happens for the first 2/3 of the book. this is, however, all establishing the characters and situation for what I thought to be a fantastic ending. it delivers in both shock value, is truly horrific and manages to tie up the stories of all the main characters and several smaller characters, whilst offering a satisfying closure that's so often overlooked. overall an excellent book that truly had me going "ooh" out loud when certain revelations happen.

skin-peeling gory horror!
Intercepts is a skin-peeling gory horror novel, with science fiction elements woven in that has you questioning what the heck is going on??? A lot. Not really at the main aspects of the story, but more so about what on earth does Joe actually do for a job and what is the purpose at the facility? I didn’t get it, and needed just a bit more background to build a bigger picture for me, just missing that ‘aaaaaaahhhhhhh I see’ moment with the greater details.
I wasn’t overly connected to the characters whilst I was reading, and I will try and write down what I have to say in a coherent way. The characters made sense, Joe, a work-a-holic (and father of Riley) has always put work first and therefore is a character I am sure a lot of us might be familiar with, and then Riley is a teenager so what more needs to be said about her. Joe loves his daughter, has the realisation of making a mistake or two and wants to help her (cough, and he should, seeming apparently all of this is his fault, cough). The problem is the novel felt like it was missing something to really make you care what might happen to the two of them. Things happen in the story that could, they just didn’t take me the whole way there, so as the story progresses, I wasn’t exactly shouting noooo, but shrugging and thinking, lol, nice.
The novel is well paced, turns on the gas at the right points, and despite what I may have mentioned above, I did really enjoy listening to it! I’d give it 3.5 stars.
Listening to this novel failed to have me in goosies, however; I think this would make for a really creepy horror movie!

A fun and scary thought
This story is built up nicely, I'll agree that the prologue was a little strange but it did set the tone well and it helped bring you into the mindset. I am stuck wondering if something like this has happened in any government jobs, it wouldn't surprise me and I think that is what helped draw me to this story and really made me connect and not want to put it down.

amazing book
His work just followed him home. The government wanted to unlock hidden abilities in the human mind.
They put subjects in extreme sensory deprivation.

Considering the potential in the material...
I found this story a bit slow paced, even a bit boring and predictable.

Not what I expected...
I’m surprised I didn’t like this very much, because the reviews are all great!! I felt the story was good, but had slow moments. Quite a lot of slower moments. Then end was good, with all the twists and confusion. But I didn’t really feel invested with any of the characters, and the story didn’t grip me.

Not bad
This was ok. I didn’t find it as compelling as “In My Father’s Basement”... the characters weren’t as interesting and I didn’t find myself as invested with this book as I was the previous novel by this author.
I thought the end was okay.
There was a fair bit of gore, it was a bit gross in parts.
Overall I was mostly interested but a bit underwhelmed.
Might need to try listening to it again to see if my opinion changes.
