Rachel Held Evans is widely recognized for her theologically astute, profoundly honest, and beautifully personal books, which have guided, instructed, edified, and shaped Christians as they seek to live out a just and loving faith. At the time of her tragic death in 2019, Rachel was working on a new book about wholeheartedness. With the help of her close friend and author Jeff Chu, that work-in-progress has been woven together with some of her other unpublished writings into a rich collection of essays.

Story
If the Bible isn’t a science book or an instruction manual, then what is it? What do people mean when they say the Bible is inspired? When Rachel Held Evans found herself asking these questions, she began a quest to better understand what the Bible is and how it is meant to be read. What she discovered changed her—and it will change you too.
Drawing on the best in recent scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations, retelling them through memoir, original poetry, short stories, soliloquies, and even a short screenplay. Undaunted by the Bible’s most difficult passages, Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating Scripture’s mysteries. The Bible, she discovers, is not a static work but is a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God’s loving and redemptive work in the world.

Millions are satisfied to sit through hour-long, weekly religious services. Millions more have left the church, brokenhearted and cynical. But God is waking up his people - people who will risk everything and sacrifice anything to become the dynamic, powerful church seen in Scripture. We Are Church calls Christ-followers, young and old, to hold fast to their biblical roots while seeking radical change. Scripture promises an exuberant and unstoppable church. That wondrous early church of acts can be our reality today.

Publisher's Summary
Are you one of the millions who crave a new direction in the church, fed up with religious games, empty promises, and cultural Christianity? You are not alone. You are not crazy. Maybe Jesus is ready to interrupt your life. Snatching Jen Hatmaker from the grip of her consumer life, God began asking her questions like, "What is really the point of My Church? What have I really asked of you?" Transparent and imperfect, Jen will engage and inspire you to go beyond comfortable and answer for yourself the question she faced: Is there more to faith than just safe and sequestered, predictable and boring?

If you're ready to be interrupted too...
Then this book is for you. It is the story of one family's encounter with Scripture, people in the margins, with the essence of faith, and with church.
Hatmaker writes in a personal, revelatory way without invoking tricks of guilt, Scripture-twisting or "social gospelese." Readers will learn the difference between *being* the Good News and *knowing* it, between the Gospel in its fullness and the Gospel of the American church, between a heart that loves the poor and one that enables, neglects, belittles or ignores.
Her writing is clever, quick to the point, sharp and warm. My husband listened with me, and he appreciated Brandon Hatmaker's interjections. We both greatly valued her suggested reading lists, and our Audible Wish List has grown immensely since beginning this "Interrupted" journey together.

Life Changing Insights
I loved this book! This was my second Jen Hatmaker book (I'm late to the party) and it blew me away. Makes me rethink "church" and living on mission. It's challenging, and very honest. I frequently went to the actual book to highlight things to come back to. So good.
I've found I don't LOVE Jen's narration - but she's growing on me - so the fact that someone else narrated was a plus for me.

Fabulous author!
Jen Hatmaker makes me want to be a better Christian. Her down to earth way of reaching people and communities is amazing. It makes so much more sense than just regular uptight churches, some of which have made me feel quite unwelcome. And the idea of so much caring and missional work right in your own communities is amazing!
