Absurdly not what it says

This is keto, folks. It’s keto plus highly restrictive fasting windows and foods. It’s anything but “intuitive” it’s willpower and deprivation and some more willpower to starve yourself thrown in. I’m reminded throughout of the short term weight loss benefits of ketosis that nearly always cause rebounds as most people won’t live this way forever. (And the long term studies that keep showing keto shortens your life span) But I’ve been doing 14 hr intermittent fasting and was very interested in reading more takes on it, but this book going back. “Listen to your hunger and ignore it” because that’s intuitive - I guess ignoring it is what your intuition wants you to do? I have no doubt that anyone who did something this restrictive would lose weight for a month and no doubt that they’d gain it back and then some. Ugh. I’ll find better books on fasting, or I’ll just stick to reading the actual studies on it for motivation, but don’t want to spend any money on another keto book disguised as something else.

An Intuitive Read

This is the 3rd book I have read by doctor Will Cole, each one builds upon the previous, you could just start with this 1 and read the other 2 afterwards and be well educated

Dr. Will Cole has it figured out!

I’ve been researching and living a Keri lifestyle with bumps along the way for over a year now and Dr Cole has giving me the tools and the mindset to dig in for life. His tools and well said advice and encouragement have made the difference. I’ve referred all my interested friends to this book because it’s concise and to the point and the recipient are beautiful.

Insightful read/listen

This is a great book to learn about your body and learn how to reduce the amount of carbs/sugars that our culture is now use to eating daily. The reviews that left one star and wrote about how this book promotes deprivation of certain food is completely not true! Everyone can indulge in the foods we love like pizza, cake, pastas etc… but everything in moderation. It doesn’t take common sense to realize that eating a bowl of fettuccine or pizza & high carb foods isn’t the best thing to do for yourself on a daily. This book simply prepares on how to wing off all the high carb foods that we are use to eating too often. I love it and it takes self awareness to understand what you are doing wrong in your routine that is not giving you the results you ultimately want.

Progression, not perfection.

Overall this book was okay. It was very informative and the author seems knowledgeable. I could have done without the forward by Gwyneth Paltro. It felt like a very unnecessary name drop. I do like that the plan is based on your own body's intuition and what feels right to you. There are far too many diet books in the world that beat you down for eating "bad" foods. Food is fuel and there is no such thing as good or bad, as long as it is done in moderation and with mindfulness.

A key phrase that really spoke to me is, "Make movement a lifestyle." I think a lot of individuals, myself included, forget being healthy is a lifestyle. It's not just about weight and your diet, but about movement and exercise. Exercise doesn't have to be a punishment or a chore, it can be dancing or walking your dogs. Ultimately, lifestyle is about your choices and the actions you perform to make yourself a happier, healthier version.

With that said, another phrase that really stuck in my brain was, "Progression, not perfection." I'm a perfectionist to the core, and I often forget it's not about being perfect but making progress. Am I a size two? HELL NO. Am I working on making better choices, paying attention to what my body needs, and moving more? You bet. Am I where I want to be physically? Emotionally? Medically? No, but I'm making progress, not perfection.

Great Book

Dr. Will Cole has high energy, is well-spoken, and comes off enthusiastic about what he is saying.

The nutritional information is presented in a generalized manner but that worked for me. For example he often says "A study showed" with no further info or details on the source or study.

Some that are being critical of the book come off as they did not read the book.

For example he discusses how this plan is so similar to keto so why not just call it keto. His response to that was well received and I love how he gives the standard or best approach but also how flexible this plan really is.
