Publisher's Summary

In this riveting novel from number one New York Times best-selling author Danielle Steel, a gifted young woman must grapple with the legacy of a troubled childhood in order to pursue her dreams.

Antonia Adams is the product of a loveless marriage between a beautiful young model and an aristocrat. As a child, she is abandoned in the abyss that yawns between them, blamed by her mother, ignored by her father, and neglected by both. Unprotected and unloved, she learns that the only way to feel safe is to hide from the dangers around her, drawing as little attention as possible to herself, to be "invisible."

In her isolation, books are her refuge and movies her escape. A day spent being carried away by an unforgettable film in a dark theater is her greatest thrill. Her love of the movies turns into a dream to become a screenwriter, and a summer job at a Hollywood studio. There, a famous British filmmaker notices her, and suddenly she can remain invisible no longer. He wants to put her in a movie and make her a star. It is a dazzling opportunity but a terrifying one, as it strips her of the camouflage that made her feel safe. She is suddenly thrust into the public eye - and even more so when they fall in love.

She will never let go of her true dream of becoming a filmmaker, though, and if she wants to make that leap, she will have to expose herself in ways she never has before. When tragedy strikes, she must decide whether she will remain center stage or become invisible again, where she feels safest. Will she face her demons, or run and hide?

In this extraordinary novel, Danielle Steel tells the story of a woman who must decide how high a price she is willing to pay to pursue her passion - and whether it is possible to stay true to herself while she does.

It was okay…

Story was pretty good but a lot of repetition. Would have been better without saying the same things over and over. We get what you’re saying.

The narrator was not right for this book. Very dry and monotone. Better suited for a Tom Clancy book. A female narrator would have been much better.

Not at her best

I am a huge fan of Danielle Steel and the story was just not as strong as her normal stories. It felt like a very watered down drink, I don’t know how else to explain it. It was an OK story, it was an OK read, but honestly, just incredibly boring. I desperately don’t like to give poor reviews, but I also want to acknowledge to her readers that this might be a book to pass on.

not her usual style

as I listen to this book it just didn't seem like Danielle steel's usual style book. I felt the end was a bit abrupt even though a lot of her books are predictable there's something about it that just didn't seem like it was the same style that she usually has.

Good story

It was a good story but I thought it ended rather abruptly. All of a sudden THE END.

first Steele book, never again

I thought I would give D Steele a try. This is a highly rated book, why not try. I made it through, but the story was not compelling or interesting. The relationships were not engaging and the way the story was told (3rd person) didn't intrigued me at all. The book was very repetitive. That's an Amazon credit I won't get back.

Perfect for a day at the beach.

Relaxing, non-stressful. Just what I needed to take my mind off of a hectic work environment.

The story was one of the best I have read by the author!!

The narrator was easy to listen to & the characters & story line kept my attention!! I would recommend to anyone interested in a romance with many different players all well developed so you felt like you knew them!!

My First Danielle Steele Book...

This is the first time I've ever read a book by Daniel Steele. It to be honest, I'm actually pretty surprised. I expected a caliber of writing that was stellar. Instead, I was left wondering how she became so famous for her writing question I don't like to be critical of people. The story itself was good. But her writing is so unimaginative. To me, she is breaking the first rule anyone learns in a creative writing class. She's telling the story from a very strange and distant third person perspective rather than allowing the reader to participate. I felt like I was just being told a cold clinical, almost psychological viewpoint of the lives of the protagonist. She would frequently jump ahead and one sentence through years. It felt almost as if she was too tired to get into any sort of imaginative descriptive writing. So she just told the story. I doubt I would recommend this book to anyone, simply because, although I listened to it on audible and finished it, I felt that it was almost a waste of my time. It was good, and not good at the same time. I was interested enough to find out what finally happened, and to finish the book. But I wasn't truly engaged in way that I expect a novel to engage me.
