Publisher's Summary
Mark Hawkins, former park ranger and expert tracker, is out of his element, working onboard the Magellan, a research vessel studying the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. But his work is interrupted when, surrounded by 30 miles of refuse, the ship and its high-tech systems are plagued by a series of strange malfunctions and the crew is battered by a raging storm.
When the storm fades and the sun rises, the beaten crew awakens to find themselves anchored in the protective cove of a tropical island...and no one knows how they got there. Even worse, the ship has been sabotaged, two crewmen are dead, and a third is missing. Hawkins spots signs of the missing man onshore and leads a small team to bring him back. But they quickly discover evidence of a brutal history left behind by the island’s former occupants: Unit 731, Japan’s ruthless World War II human experimentation program. Mass graves and military fortifications dot the island, along with a decades-old laboratory housing the remains of hideous experiments.
As more crew members start to disappear, Hawkins realizes that they are not alone. In fact, he suspects they were brought to this strange and horrible island. The crew is taken one by one, and while Hawkins fights to save his friends, he learns the horrible truths: Island 731 was never decommissioned and the person taking his crewmates may not be a person at all - not anymore.

An amazing adventure ride!
I'm a sucker for a good adventure book and always loved science fiction. This book does a great job of combining the two in a captivating way! On top of that the book introduces the readers to a topic I never knew much about, chimeras. This took my imagination to places I've never thought about before.

Unique story with an excellent Narrator
I really enjoyed this story by Jeremy Robinson. He picked an untapped dastardly and often overlooked piece of history and built an equally disturbing story out of it.
RC Bray really nails the reading of this story. It's easy to decipher whose part he's reading when he's reading it due to his distinctive voice.
My only real criticism of this story is Robinson's descriptions of the various creatures. As he describes them it sounds like he's just picking random animals and stitches them together. Like "Half man, half bear, half pig!"

Beware of your next Pacific cruise
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
If you are into gruesome descriptions of genetic manipulation, this one is for you. If not, then not so much.
What was most disappointing about Jeremy Robinson’s story?
It relies upon gore far too much, and some of the suspension of disbelief required is a true stretch. Dragged on abit as well. So so overall.
What three words best describe R. C. Bray’s voice?
Strong
Authentic
Consistent
Was Island 731 worth the listening time?
50/50.
Any additional comments?
There are a number of books in this genre of gruesome fantasy, and this one is not the best, The ideas are there, and overall it's ok, but the devil is always in the details, and I fear this one has been left alone in that area.
Recommended with alot of reservations.

Most Likely Exactly What You're Looking For
I picked up Island 731 expecting an action-packed B-Movie that would keep me coming back for more. That's exactly what I got.
I enjoyed this book. The narration is great and well-paced. As some other reviewers have pointed out, the characters aren't especially well-developed, but I wasn't expecting some moving treatise on the human condition--I was looking for thrills & chills. This book has them.
I think if you're someone who read the synopsis of this book and thought, "This sounds interesting," then it's a pretty safe bet Island 731 is for you.

Thought provoking
Island 731
Jeremy Robinson has done it again, he has blurred the lines between fiction and non fiction. This time he has used a gruesome true event that happened in world war two and turned it into a what if it was never stopped and placed it in todays world where it could posibily happen.
Jeremy has brought something I had not known about to my attention. He has made me want to do research to see how in world war two these things went on and why no one was made to pay for it except the victims.
The story has mystery, love interest, friends and twists. I would love to say that this book was a page-turner but as I listened to iti would have to say it was a book I did not want to stop listing too, which did cause problems when going to sleep. Some very strange dreams!!
The narrator R. C. Brey did a great job of bringing accents to the characters, so it was enjoyable and easy to tell who was talking.
This is not the first book that he has narrated for Jeremy Robinson, hopefully not his last.
I do find some male narrators to be hard to listen too, sometimes I find them to have too deep a voice or slow talkers. I had no problem this time.
If I had to recommend this book to some one I would say if you liked Michael Crichton’s work you will love this book.

Pinch of sea salt required
The book started well, you are put into a world of insanity and unpredictability very quickly and almost expect some sickening actions to come out. They do, gradually and you always feel sorry for something or someone. Unit 731 is easy to research, so know what you are getting yourself into. Just when the book gets very good, it starts to get a bit silly and quickly descends from being a disturbed horror experiment to a cheap computer game. Chimeras are one thing, but when they are action figures made from 57 different varieties you imagine super skrull or the x men.
I really enjoyed the book and wanted to keep listening, but it became a victim of its own sillyness with some of the chimeras and became much more comic book than thriller.
Entertaining enough but stick with it.

Less than impressive
Started off OK in the thrilling tales vein. The problem for me was this story was predictable and derivative of much better material. It doesn't matter how many times the characters said "you have to be s***ing me", it still never came close to being a patch on the story told in "The Thing". The characters were mostly superficial and I found the main female character quite unlikable. The creature descriptions become increasingly ludicrous as the story progresses, Without giving anything away, perhaps less really is more.
In the end, some of the creature descriptions actually had me laughing and after that, groaning, which probably wasn't the intent of the Author. I stuck with it through sheer dogged determination, just to wring every penny out of my audible credit.
The narrator was pretty good and the start of the story seemed quite intriguing. The story telling was initially competent and had some nice moments but ultimately began to irritate me with a rather too rapid pace of events, without actually being exciting. Sadly, this one just didn't have what it takes to hold my attention and the creatures eventually just became laughable to me. This one doesn't hold a candle to the greats of the adventure genre and the horror was inadvertently amusing, when the Author was seemingly aiming for shocking and horrific, As for all the 5 star reviews,????! I just don't get it.

Brilliant!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys medical thrillers.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Island 731?
There is a good background story based in some truth to this thriller.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
The story catches your attention from the start and made you want to listen on to see what happens next. The story is predictable in some parts but very entertaining.

Excellent Sci-fi! I wouldn't say no to a sequel story.
Would love to see this as a movie too.

Fantastic!
An uncharted island in the middle of a Pacific floating garbage patch contains all manner of genetically-enigineered beasts intent on killing all before them.
Loved the story and action, not to mention the chimeras. This is Jeremy Robinson at his best

interesting story
the island and spookiness of the story was very intriguing. Also a good twist. But gut a bit bland after the spookiness was lifted and all was revealed. Still it is an exciting story and narration is fantastic
