Story
In July 1890, Vincent van Gogh went into a cornfield and shot himself. Or did he? Why would an artist at the height of his creative powers attempt to take his life... and then walk a mile to a doctor's house for help? Who was the crooked little "color man" Vincent had claimed was stalking him across France? And why had the painter recently become deathly afraid of a certain shade of blue? These are just a few of the questions confronting Vincent's friends who vow to discover the truth of van Gogh's untimely death.

Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Savior's pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But there's no one who loves Josh more (except maybe "Maggie," Mary of Magdalan) and Biff isn't about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

Story
Andrew Yancy - late of the Miami Police and soon-to-be-late of the Monroe County sheriff’s office - has a human arm in his freezer. There’s a logical (Hiaasenian) explanation for that, but not for how and why it parted from its shadowy owner. Yancy thinks the boating-accident/shark-luncheon explanation is full of holes, and if he can prove murder, the sheriff might rescue him from his grisly Health Inspector gig (it’s not called the roach patrol for nothing). But first - this being Hiaasen country - Yancy must negotiate an obstacle course of wildly unpredictable events with a crew of even more wildly unpredictable characters.

Being Mr. Fixit to the underworld keeps him and his assistant, Orson Welles (yes, that Orson Welles), pretty busy, since things go on the blink all the time down there. No malfunction has ever created so much inconvenience, though, as the malfunction of hell's escalator, which leads from the pearly gates to the depths of Hades. What's worse: The breakdown appears to be sabotage.

Fun Read
I bought this title during one of the sales. I didn't know exactly what to expect, but I'm glad I took the risk. The characters were very different from most novels. We have islanders, a corrupt doctor and, naturally, the sequined love nun.
Pilot Tucker Case is a miscreant who has a hard time following rules. As a result he is persuaded to fly the pink plane of Mary Jean Cosmetics while under the influence in order to help a young lady (and I use the term loosely) join the mile high club. From there it's all downhill for Tucker. He's disgraced and ends up on an island in Micronesia. Getting there is difficult and along the way we meet navigator Kimi, who has some unusual behaviors of his own. We also fall in with love Roberto, a talking fruit bat. We cheer on the Shark People, indigenous to the island. We cross our fingers that the doctor and his amoral wife get what they deserve. And we hope that the ghost of Capt. Vincent Bennidetti, USAF, gives Tucker enough guidance (but not too much) so that he doesn't screw it up. Many times, however, Tucker comes close.
This isn't a thriller in the traditional sense of one. But it has thriller plot lines liberally seasoned with humor. The reluctant hero theme is evident, but Tucker is charming, although stupid in some places. He learns and grows and so we stick with him.
The performance is well done. The writing is good. Go on. Take the same chance I did. you won't be disappointed.

Funny and whitty
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
It was my first book by the author and I had no expectations - I was very happily surprised to find out the story is not at all linear and obvious and the writting is clever and funny all the way. I will definetely search for more titles from C. Moore!
What did you like best about this story?
The sory is not basic and the writing is really nice. It keeps you up and running all along - and smiling!
What about Oliver Wyman’s performance did you like?
He got the character very well and was excellent doing the voices of the secondary ones too. He keeps up the pace of the story, no slowing down, very good.
If you could rename Island of the Sequined Love Nun, what would you call it?
"Have you considered living in the tropics?"

Entertaining thriller that doesn't get stuck taking itself seriously. Redemption story, so takes awhile to start liking the "bumbling hero". Adult content -- not for the family car trip. At about $1/hr, worth the price or credit.

I've read this book before, Christopher Moore is one of my favorite authors, but the narrator in this book makes it even better. The voices, the pace, the humor it's just great. This is the book I would recommend to anyone that has doubts about doing audiobooks. This book is a pretty good advertisement for audiobooks.
