Publisher's Summary

USA Today best seller

Tessa Bailey is back with a Schitt’s Creek-inspired rom-com about a Hollywood “It Girl” who’s cut off from her wealthy family and exiled to a small Pacific Northwest beach town...where she butts heads with a surly, sexy local who thinks she doesn’t belong.

As seen on E!Online, PopSugar, CNN, EliteDaily, Vulture, Buzzfeed, Bustle, The Nerd Daily, PARADE, LA Magazine, Country Living, USA Today, and more!

Piper Bellinger is fashionable, influential, and her reputation as a wild child means the paparazzi are constantly on her heels. When too much champagne and an out-of-control rooftop party lands Piper in the slammer, her stepfather decides enough is enough. So he cuts her off, and sends Piper and her sister to learn some responsibility running their late father’s dive bar...in Washington.

Piper hasn’t even been in Westport for five minutes when she meets big, bearded sea captain Brendan, who thinks she won’t last a week outside of Beverly Hills. So what if Piper can’t do math, and the idea of sleeping in a shabby apartment with bunk beds gives her hives. How bad could it really be? She’s determined to show her stepfather — and the hot, grumpy local — that she’s more than a pretty face.

Except it’s a small town and everywhere she turns, she bumps into Brendan. The fun-loving socialite and the gruff fisherman are polar opposites, but there’s an undeniable attraction simmering between them. Piper doesn’t want any distractions, especially feelings for a man who sails off into the sunset for weeks at a time. Yet as she reconnects with her past and begins to feel at home in Westport, Piper starts to wonder if the cold, glamorous life she knew is what she truly wants. LA is calling her name, but Brendan — and this town full of memories — may have already caught her heart.

Get It! Get It Now!

I love Tessa's books. I've never read one I didn't love. But this. This is next level. I listened to it once and immediately restarted it and listened again. I've never ever done that with another book before. This isn't just in my top 5 faves. It soared so far past them into number one it's impressive. Just get it. Now. Hurrrrry!

Wonderful listen while sewing

I was pleasantly surprised to find this book wasn't about a 21 year old. I enjoyed how the relationship quickly unfolded between the characters. Situations that could be drawn out into drama were made into real life. Just don't listen to this when the kids are in the room. Very steamy love scenes.

The Queen Tessa Bailey has done again!

My best read of 2021 so far. Funny, charming, and the chemistry is electric. Brendan might be my new favorite book boyfriend. So much depth to the story between the MCs and the town the book is set in. I hope this book gets adapted for a TV series or a movie.

So frustrating!

Weak materialistic female, strong earthy male....crappy
stereotypes! Not a prude, but not a voyeur either. Labored microscopic porn! Could not get past this enough to finish the book. Westport is a lovely, hardworking PNW town, not Hicksville.

BRAVO!!!! This gem is 5 star worthy!

This was a new to me author and I am HOOOKED! Brenden and Piper are an unlikely pair. This story is amusing, interesting, swoon worthy and absolutely worth the time to listen to. I did not miss dual narration and Charlotte North did a fantastic job with dramatic performance. I cannot recommend this listen highly enough.

Piper is an LA socialite banished to the Pacific North West and cut off from her step-father's check book. Her sister tags along in a show of loyalty and solidarity. I found the parents in this story lacking, but the other secondary characters are amusing. I cannot wait to for Fox and Hannah's story.

If you are looking for a feel good romance this is the story for you.

Almost perfect!

It Happened One Summer is the first book that I have read/listened to by this author. It will not be the last. I am excited to try more of her books. This is the first book in a new series by the same name. It Happened One Summer is primarily set in Westport, a small fishing town in Washington. The book is told in 3rd person POV and although I typically read and prefer 1st person, this was executed perfectly. I didn’t miss having a 1st person POV at all. It Happened One Summer was shown on Goodreads a Rom-Com and although I laughed out loud a couple times, I wouldn’t classify it as Rom-Com. If I were describing it to a friend, and I will definitely be telling friends about this one, I would say it is a contemporary romance. This book is a lot different from the books that I have been reading recently and I found it to be so refreshing. This book was like a big hug. It is exactly what I needed in my life right now.

When the book started, we met the female main character, Piper. She was rich, spoiled, and shallow. She had no real concept of responsibility or maturity. My first thoughts were, “Ugh” and “I do NOT want to read an entire book about this obnoxious girl” but the writing had me captivated and I wanted to see where it went. Thankfully, we quickly moved onto more substance and began to see Piper’s character development. I started out not liking her and ended up liking her quite a bit. I loved the male main character, Brendan, pretty much the entire way through.

The narration was excellent. The narrator made the book come alive. It was well worth spending the credit and even purchasing cash price if I hadn’t had the credit available.

The book was well written and I was enthralled by it. I remember thinking a few times that it was probably the best book I have read/listened to in a while and that it was going to be a solid 5-star book. So, what happened? Why did I end up only giving 4 to 4.5 stars? Well….the ending happened. The final 30 minutes or so of the book really let the wind out of my sails. The whole contrived situation was a departure from the flow the book had. All those things that happened didn’t feel authentic, but instead put in specifically to cause drama and force the story to take a specific path. Then there was this whole epiphany scene that the town had and it was the author basically telling us how we should feel and what we should think. The whole writing style seemed to change in that part. I don’t want to give away any details, so I won’t say specifically what I am referring to but when you read it, you will know the series of events that took place to cause the big “issue” that needed to be resolved for them to end the book. Plus, I hate that we didn’t get any closure for the family stuff with the stepfather and mom. That was disappointing. After watching Piper grow and change so much, it would have been nice to see her get recognized for it. I am still happy with the 'happy for now' ending and seeing the love that Piper and Brendan have for each other, but I felt pulled out of my warm and fuzzy reading high by the way the last 30 minutes transpired. I'm sure it will be perfect for many people but for me and my reading experience, it wasn't on par with the rest of the book.

I will absolutely recommend this book to romance lovers. I am going to make my mom read it asap and there is no doubt that I will listen to this book again. I'm probably going to purchase a hard copy to put in my home library. I love the feeling I had through the majority of the story. I will be eagerly awaiting the release of book 2, the book about Piper’s sister, Hannah.

*Deceptive Chick Lit*

The beginning of this book made me want to almost throw up with all the social media and fake friends that the star of the piece Piper had. She was basically a socialite with money financed by her stepdad. She messes up one too many times and he with the support of her mum, tells her to go to Westport where her deceased father was born and raised. She has to stay for at least 3 months. Her sister goes with her and the test is how Will Piper deal with life without her usual luxuries.

This is when the book gets interesting for me and when she meets Brendan, I would imagine there are sparks but he dislikes her from the start and they have a rocky start. Now Piper starts to come into her own and she meets a significant family member that she wasn’t aware of due to her mother leaving the area and found it too painful to discuss as Piper and her sister were very young when their father passed they barely remember him.

This book has substance and the real test for Piper is will she last the 3 months, will she find love, will she crave her old life with her fake friends or will she discover what it means to get real…..

lost interest

I thought I would try a different author so read this book after reading all the positive reviews. I was sad to say that I lost interest in reading it on more than 1 occasion. I did eventually finish it but thought it could of been shorter and more interesting. I won't be reading this authors material and will probably be sticking to the same authors that I normally read.

Built as it went on

I enjoyed this book from the outset, though I did wonder at first whether the heroine would grow on me as she was an LA it girl. I was delightfully surprised how the characters and the relationship grew as the story went on, and I got a real soft spot for the heroine by the end. Great book!

Amateur sexy.

started off OK, but it soon became a cliche love story with graphic sex scenes far too often for my preference.

Different from your regular rom com

At the beginning of this book I found myself rolling my eyes at the main character, but by the end I loved her. It is really refreshing for a book to romanticise the simple lives many people lead. I thought the performance of this book was really well done. The actor put a lot of effort into differentiating the characters. I totally applaud her efforts getting through the spicy scenes, of which there were many! 🌶🌶🌶

Great until that last 6 chapters

I was hooked (ha!) until about chapter 26 and then lost interest really quickly because of the cringy and unrealistic relationship being played out. I could predict the ending really easily.

I have thoughts..

2.5 stars.

hear me out, I enjoyed this book, I liked piper and her character and her growth.. the sea captain was okay too. I enjoyed the story and the narrative. what wasn't for me - were the 0 to 100 intimate scenes. they were so over the top and unrealistic that it made me cringe.. I skipped a lot of them because they all seemed the same, and gave me the ick. I am no prude, but this felt too much..

My favourite yet

I honestly loved this book so much. I’ve listened to a couple romance audiobooks on here and they’ve been good, but this one was amazing. My favourite. There’s spicy moments, wholesome moments, funny moments, and a storyline that leaves you wanting more and hoping everything turns out for these lovely characters. I’ll miss them!! Read this book! Love u Brendon!! 🥰

AMAZING!

This book was so well written. The plot, the obstacles, the romance, the spice… everything just tied together so well. It’s the definition of opposites attract with a ‘insta-connection but we’re both going to try and fight it’ vibe. And the characters were just perfection.. although Piper slowly grew on me.

It did take me a while to get used to the third person narration as it was a first for me. Honestly it did almost turn me off the book at the beginning and I contemplated giving it a miss. However I pushed through and I am so glad I did. It didn’t take long to get used to once I was open to it.

Highly recommend! The narrator nailed this!

Pretty hot

I enjoyed the characters and the steamy chemistry between Piper & Brendan. It was an easy book to get into with likeable and relatable characters. I especially enjoyed the relationship between Piper and Hannah and would like to read a book on Hannah's story.
Definitely recommend, but be warned that it gets pretty explicit 🤭😬
