Georgie hasn’t been on a date since, well, ever. Nobody’s asking the town clown out for a night of hot sex, that’s for sure. Maybe if people think she’s having a steamy love affair, they’ll acknowledge she’s not just the “little sister” who paints faces for a living. And who better to help demolish that image than the resident sports star and tabloid favorite? Travis Ford was major league baseball’s hottest rookie when an injury ended his career. Now, he’s flipping houses to keep busy and trying to forget his glory days.

Olive is always unlucky: in her career, in love, in...well, everything. Her identical twin sister, Amy, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest person in the world. Her meet-cute with her fiancé is something out of a romantic comedy (gag), and she’s managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a series of internet contests (double gag). Worst of all, she’s forcing Olive to spend the day with her sworn enemy, Ethan, who just happens to be the best man.

But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

Two weeks before Christmas and all through Manhattan, shop windows are decorated in red and green satin. I'm standing alone in front of the famous Vivant department store, when a charming man named Aiden asks my opinion of the décor. It's a tragedy in tinsel, I say, unable to lie. He asks for a better idea with a twinkle in his eye. Did I know he owned the place? No. He put me on the spot. Now I'm working for that man, trying to ignore that he's hot. But as a down on her luck girl with a difficult past, I know an opportunity when I see one—and I have to make it last.

Story
When his mother became president, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius - his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There's only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, US/British relations take a turn for the worse. Heads of family, state, and other handlers devise a plan for damage control: staging a truce between the two rivals.

Publisher's Summary
Tessa Bailey is back with a Schitt's Creek-inspired rom-com about a Hollywood "It Girl" who's cut off from her wealthy family and exiled to a small Pacific Northwest beach town... where she butts heads with a surly, sexy local who thinks she doesn't belong.
Piper Bellinger is fashionable, influential, and her reputation as a wild child means the paparazzi are constantly on her heels. When too much champagne and an out-of-control rooftop party lands Piper in the slammer, her stepfather decides enough is enough. So he cuts her off, and sends Piper and her sister to learn some responsibility running their late father's dive bar... in Washington.
Piper hasn't even been in Westport for five minutes when she meets big, bearded sea captain Brendan, who thinks she won't last a week outside of Beverly Hills. So what if Piper can't do math, and the idea of sleeping in a shabby apartment with bunk beds gives her hives. How bad could it really be? She's determined to show her stepfather—and the hot, grumpy local—that she's more than a pretty face.
Except it's a small town and everywhere she turns, she bumps into Brendan. The fun-loving socialite and the gruff fisherman are polar opposites, but there's an undeniable attraction simmering between them. Piper doesn't want any distractions, especially feelings for a man who sails off into the sunset for weeks at a time. Yet as she reconnects with her past and begins to feel at home in Westport, Piper starts to wonder if the cold, glamorous life she knew is what she truly wants. LA is calling her name, but Brendan—and this town full of memories—may have already caught her heart.

I love Tessa's books. I've never read one I didn't love. But this. This is next level. I listened to it once and immediately restarted it and listened again. I've never ever done that with another book before. This isn't just in my top 5 faves. It soared so far past them into number one it's impressive. Just get it. Now. Hurrrrry!

Pardon me while I finish my eye roll.
Started out light & semi interesting. Who knows how it ends because it got so ridiculously raunchy that I found myself in a continual eye roll. Not a raised brow with peaked interests but a full-on eye roll that could only be marveled by a teenager.
The narrator was acceptable in the beginning as the story line begins with the main female character. However, her voice does not help the ridiculousness of the story line as she slips into the male character as he describes all of the sexual acts he plans on performing on the main female character. The author clearly is looking for shock value rather than any substance.
Walk away quickly. Save your credit for better writing and narration. I’m off to try and retrieve my eye balls that have clearly rolled so far back in my head that they may never be the same.

Wonderful listen while sewing
I was pleasantly surprised to find this book wasn't about a 21 year old. I enjoyed how the relationship quickly unfolded between the characters. Situations that could be drawn out into drama were made into real life. Just don't listen to this when the kids are in the room. Very steamy love scenes.

Weak materialistic female, strong earthy male....crappy
stereotypes! Not a prude, but not a voyeur either. Labored microscopic porn! Could not get past this enough to finish the book. Westport is a lovely, hardworking PNW town, not Hicksville.

My best read of 2021 so far. Funny, charming, and the chemistry is electric. Brendan might be my new favorite book boyfriend. So much depth to the story between the MCs and the town the book is set in. I hope this book gets adapted for a TV series or a movie.

BRAVO!!!! This gem is 5 star worthy!
This was a new to me author and I am HOOOKED! Brenden and Piper are an unlikely pair. This story is amusing, interesting, swoon worthy and absolutely worth the time to listen to. I did not miss dual narration and Charlotte North did a fantastic job with dramatic performance. I cannot recommend this listen highly enough.
Piper is an LA socialite banished to the Pacific North West and cut off from her step-father's check book. Her sister tags along in a show of loyalty and solidarity. I found the parents in this story lacking, but the other secondary characters are amusing. I cannot wait to for Fox and Hannah's story.
If you are looking for a feel good romance this is the story for you.

In the beginning, I was worried I won't like Piper. But she is such a cute character. I've got all the laughs and awwws from this book that I need from my rom coms. So why not 5 stars?
* SPOILERS A HEAD *
The reasons it didn't get 5 stars from me are very few.
I really thought that he was going to accidentally post her nudes on Instagram. I was dying from anxiety. When it didn't happened the actual thing really hadn't this level of impact. Crisis we've got was mostly based on coincidences and some anger that wasn't really convincing.
It kind of now feels like a lost opportunity.

*Deceptive Chick Lit*
The beginning of this book made me want to almost throw up with all the social media and fake friends that the star of the piece Piper had. She was basically a socialite with money financed by her stepdad. She messes up one too many times and he with the support of her mum, tells her to go to Westport where her deceased father was born and raised. She has to stay for at least 3 months. Her sister goes with her and the test is how Will Piper deal with life without her usual luxuries.
This is when the book gets interesting for me and when she meets Brendan, I would imagine there are sparks but he dislikes her from the start and they have a rocky start. Now Piper starts to come into her own and she meets a significant family member that she wasn’t aware of due to her mother leaving the area and found it too painful to discuss as Piper and her sister were very young when their father passed they barely remember him.
This book has substance and the real test for Piper is will she last the 3 months, will she find love, will she crave her old life with her fake friends or will she discover what it means to get real…..

I enjoyed this book from the outset, though I did wonder at first whether the heroine would grow on me as she was an LA it girl. I was delightfully surprised how the characters and the relationship grew as the story went on, and I got a real soft spot for the heroine by the end. Great book!

At the beginning of this book I found myself rolling my eyes at the main character, but by the end I loved her. It is really refreshing for a book to romanticise the simple lives many people lead. I thought the performance of this book was really well done. The actor put a lot of effort into differentiating the characters. I totally applaud her efforts getting through the spicy scenes, of which there were many! 🌶🌶🌶

Great until that last 6 chapters
I was hooked (ha!) until about chapter 26 and then lost interest really quickly because of the cringy and unrealistic relationship being played out. I could predict the ending really easily.

I have thoughts..
2.5 stars.
hear me out, I enjoyed this book, I liked piper and her character and her growth.. the sea captain was okay too. I enjoyed the story and the narrative. what wasn't for me - were the 0 to 100 intimate scenes. they were so over the top and unrealistic that it made me cringe.. I skipped a lot of them because they all seemed the same, and gave me the ick. I am no prude, but this felt too much..

Only made it 4 chapters
Reviews sounded good so I tried to persevere. But Piper is too over the top annoying and life’s too short. The narration was good though, just not the character.

Comedy, Romance or Erotica?
I didn't mind the story. It was a fairly stock-standard romantic comedy initially and easy to listen to which was what I was after. But when the over-the-top sex scenes began, and that's when I started tuning out, or forwarding past them. They didn't need to be so explicit, or go on for quite so long, I think it ruined what could have been a good book, but buyers should be aware that they're in there - and there are many, because the summary doesn't really allude to them.

Enjoyable
An enjoyable him her novel , love inevitable. Enjoyed the storyline and was a bit like a matinee movie . Fun, predictable and a bit mushy.
Would recommend it as a easy listening novel

Light Hearted & Fun
It Happened One Summer was a light hearted and entertaining read. Piper presents as very shallow & superficial in the beginning, but her personality really starts to shine in Westport. Who would have thought her perfect match would be a rather grumpy (at times) and very no nonsense fisherman, the complete opposite to Piper. Brendan was so persistent and so very sweet with Piper, understanding and very patient with the doubts she had about herself.
Piper's relationship with Hannah is her only real, genuine friendship, something she soon realises once she's away from her previously more glamorous lifestyle. Hannah is so low key in comparison to her sister, she's the voice of reason between the 2 sisters, and it's going to be so entertaining when she falls for Fox in the next book in this series.
It Happened One Summer is the first audio I have in my library with the narrator, Charlotte North. I really enjoyed listening to her performance of both Piper & Brendan.

Fun read but not enough character development
Rating ⭐⭐⭐.5
~ Quick Summary ~
Socialite, Piper and her sister are shipped off to the small town of Westport and cut off as punishment. There they adjust to their new humble life as commoners.
~ Pick this up if you enjoy/don’t mind the following ~
🏡 Small town romance.
🌦️Grumpy and sunshine.
💑 Not really enemies to lovers (they started off not liking each other but that quickly turned around).
📕 Romcom. Silly and cliche scenes.
🌶️ Spicy.
🚈 Light, quick and easy read.
~ What I Enjoyed ~
- This was a lot of fun and so easy to breeze through. It's the perfect book to switch off with, and gave me the Love Hypothesis vibes because some scenes were a little ridiculous and Piper herself was entertaining.
- At first it seemed superficial, however when the sisters went to Westport and found more about their father, lived in the moment, had new experiences and truly connected with people it was touching. I wanted more of it!!!
- Brendan was such a hilarious grump. Some funny moments I enjoyed was when he joined Instagram so that he could find out more about Piper and accidentally followed her having no idea what that meant. Brendan has a tough exterior but for Piper he was the sweetest and most thoughtful man it was beautiful.
- I enjoyed how Piper and Brendan were upfront with what they wanted from the relationship.
~ What I wanted more of ~
- There was nothing that I didn’t enjoy per say - I actually enjoyed everything that was there but I wish there was more focus on the development of the sisters, adjustment to their new life and what they brought to Westport. I felt it was more tell and not enough showing. There were some glimpses in the first half but then the quick developing romance took over. Some examples of what I wished were explored more:
- The bar could’ve been a great vehicle to propel development and engagement with the community. But the scenes were brief, they fixed it up pretty quickly and didn’t require many people to help. I guess it was more about Piper and Brendan only.
- The scenes with their Grandmother were brief, there was a lot of history that was glossed over and the grandmother's development was instant - becoming involved in the community again. I also forgot about her till she was mentioned.
- I wish we learned more about the Bellinger’s family history and their legendary father.
It felt like Piper’s decision to stay was very quick and sudden. I was hoping for there to be a major shift in her before she made that decision. To me the shift was mostly due to the genuine connection with Brendan, but I wished it was more about Piper herself and the life that she herself was making. I guess it was implied and it was briefly mentioned but I wanted her development to be an equal emphasis.
- Brendan’s job is dangerous. I feel like this should have been a barrier in the relationship and a topic worth discussing. But there wasn’t any exploration or conversations around this for Piper to accept it.
- The conflict at the end was very predictable and felt a tad forced and dramatic.
