Publisher's Summary

She’d walk through fire to save their world. To claim her, he’d let it all burn.

Her widowed heart freshly healed, Lavinia wants nothing more than to bind herself to Ivan, the man who adores her fatherless sons almost as much as he loves her. Then duty calls her to risk their future and return to a life she’d fled - to a man who wants her as much as she fears him.

Tasked with escorting Lavinia back to the land of her birth, Ivan pledges his heart along with his protection. He’ll have his mark upon her within days. But no sooner do they arrive than her previous life threatens to tear her away forever. Haunted by the mistakes of her past, Lavinia would do anything to redeem herself and save her people. Consumed by desire, Ivan must decide if passion is worth more than the survival of his race.

Duty or love? They can’t have both.

Fabulous - a Must read

The series has a new twist on “American”romance; one that I’ve always thought barbaric-

Now I find myself thinking how unbelievably sexy with out any vulgarity!!

Great narration!

This story is made all the better by the narration. Very well done. The story itself was entertaining and I am enjoying the series. On to the next brother!

It keeps getting better

Loved it!! Although you could read this book as a stand-alone I recommend reading the series from the beginning.

Strong heroines and heroes in each book.

Nails on a chalkboard

I get that a character in the story stutters-but I do not want to hear it in a whole audio book! Ever dang line was a stutter from that character! Also I did like the first two books more than this one. I didn’t think the love story was believable. I just listened because I’m hoping the next book is better and I didn’t want to not understand it having skipped this one. I really preferred life on the mountain vs life in the red sands.

Good

The combination of the heroine stuttering and her inner dialogue was a tough hurdle to overcome while listening. Reading may be a better way to go with this particular book. But the story is wonderful and entertaining.

condense the page fillers and get to the story

I noticed the writer has a bad habit in Book 1, but the overall story was pretty good so I waded through it. By book two and 3 it's so maddening I really want to get a refund. If I had the paperback in my hand I would be skimming over 2/3 of it and throwing out the rest of the garbage. The intro to all of the stories and the first 1/4 of the books catch your attention, making you think this is going to be gooood......then something dreadful happens, the entire middle half of the books get slogged down a neverending quagmire of agonizing. Sooooo much agonizing over the same d**n issue rehashed in a thousand ways. Then suddenly the last few chapters pick the story back up and finish it in a blur. at the snap of a finger they are suddenly done and problems solved.
if the writer were to weed out the chaffe of page fillers this would be an amazing series. As it is, it feels like I've run a guantlet of torture to try to find the little nuggets of what really boils down to great stories. Not sure the agony is worth it. Im in the middle of book 4 and skipping forward all but the very beginning and very ends of each chapter. How fair is that to put your readers through??? Why should we pay premium money for a book like this??? Wlll be steering clear of this author like the plague once I slog through this.
Narrator of course is awesome, only reason Im still hanging on by a thread.

Loved it!!

I had the biggest book hangover after the ACOTAR series and then I read the rest of Maas’ books and I still couldn’t shake it but this series has stolen my heart and does even more so as it goes on, I didn’t know how the story would stretch out but it really does and each pairing is so lovely to see unfold, I really am loving this series! I loved this book especially to see Lavinia realise her worth as she’s just the sweetest character! Each book shows you each of the mens character alongside the women and the clan as a whole with other characters popping in and out which is really nice!
