Publisher's Summary

She’d walk through fire to save their world. To claim her, he’d let it all burn.

Her widowed heart freshly healed, Lavinia wants nothing more than to bind herself to Ivan, the man who adores her fatherless sons almost as much as he loves her. Then duty calls her to risk their future and return to a life she’d fled - to a man who wants her as much as she fears him.

Tasked with escorting Lavinia back to the land of her birth, Ivan pledges his heart along with his protection. He’ll have his mark upon her within days. But no sooner do they arrive than her previous life threatens to tear her away forever. Haunted by the mistakes of her past, Lavinia would do anything to redeem herself and save her people. Consumed by desire, Ivan must decide if passion is worth more than the survival of his race.

Duty or love? They can’t have both.

It keeps getting better

Loved it!! Although you could read this book as a stand-alone I recommend reading the series from the beginning.

Strong heroines and heroes in each book.

Completely Addicted

I’m a 45 year old woman who reads all types of books. This series is something I’ll never forget. The ultimate breed of warriors who value their woman above all else… swoon, take me there. I’ve enjoyed this series more than I can say. Adventure, fantasy and love. I’m completely addicted!

In love with this series

My favorite so far!

I'm used to more heated Romance BUT this series has won me over. Shane has a great voice, love that he's the only narrator. Though a sexy woman would just to the attraction. The way he reads these stories is incredible, I can't put them down.

The magical stories are so creative and unusual you fall in love with gental men and their brutal viking style

Two dimensional characters

This was my least favorite of the series. The underlying story has a lot of potential but these two characters we’re hardly heroic enough to pull off the rolls.

My aching heart

I didn’t know if I was going to make it to the end of this one. I started loving holland because Of his patience and softness. And then Eric came along and showed his strength and power. Now you have Ivan the bold, who, in his own right is kind and loving but strong and fierce. And quite literally came in like a BAT out of hell and slayed it (wink)!! Idk if I can stand loving this series anymore then I already do.

So excellent!

This one was really hard to listen to, though. So depressing, and frustrating. BUT... of course, things smooth out and there's a happy ending, like all of these most excellent books in the Dokiri Brides series. Not a single one of these books disappoint, and the performance by Shane East is to DIE for. Deep rumbling voice with the perfect accent for the De Nali men, and very believable feminine voices for all the women in the story. I recognize each woman the moment he starts narrating her. WOW.

Best in the Series so far.

Initially, I had skipped this book and listened to books 1, 2, and 4 because of the negative reviews about the stuttering of the female protagonist. Mu curiosity got the better of me and I broke down to give it a listen, prepared to hate it. No doubt, the stuttering was bad, particularly in the beginning. However, the character and the story developed and toward the end, after she had revisited a childhood trauma, it was very much improved. I really enjoyed the message about healing gleaned from this part of the story.

It was a powerful and achingly beautiful love story with mature characters who were willing to be vulnerable with each other. The passion, tenderness and desire the lovers had for each other clased with the noble ideas of duty and sacrifice for the community and loved ones sent me on an emotional roller coaster. The author does belabor many points and at times goes into way too much detail about things that don't really add to the story but I wasn’t prepared to put the book down because of that.
This story also didn’t over play the love, hate dynamic which I find cringe worthy to loathsome depending on my mood. Very different from the other books. I found myself fast forwarding book 1 because of the contempt and disgust the female lead had for the male lead in one breath and in the very next breath love, regard and all the lovely emotions. That level of vacillation doesn't jive well with my sensibilities.
The narrator is perfection. His telling of this story completely immersed me in the author's masterfully built world. When Ivan told Lavinia "You are mine," it struck me to my core and I was like yeah, girl you are his.

Beautifully written and beautifully narrated. This is my favorite in the series so far with one more to go.

Loved it!!

I had the biggest book hangover after the ACOTAR series and then I read the rest of Maas’ books and I still couldn’t shake it but this series has stolen my heart and does even more so as it goes on, I didn’t know how the story would stretch out but it really does and each pairing is so lovely to see unfold, I really am loving this series! I loved this book especially to see Lavinia realise her worth as she’s just the sweetest character! Each book shows you each of the mens character alongside the women and the clan as a whole with other characters popping in and out which is really nice!
