Story
For centuries, the only way to access God’s word was to hear it read aloud in public gatherings. Today, many are blessed to own personal printed copies of the Bible, but there is a surprising benefit to hearing the Scriptures read aloud as it was for so many generations. Verses you have read many times will impact you in a new way when you hear them through the Listener’s Audio Bible (NIV). Read in a single voice with subtle background music, Max McLean’s skillful, engaging, but never over-dramatized style will bring the complete Bible to life.

Story
The Qur'an, believed by Muslims to be the word of God, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad 1,400 years ago. It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations.

Would you believe it took nearly 500 years to translate the ESV (English Standard Version) Bible? That's because the ESV builds on the great translations of the past - including William Tyndale's New Testament of 1526 and the King James Version (KJV) of 1611. But the ESV Bible also builds on the best Christian scholarship of the last 100 years.

I purchased this version because I like the sound of James Earl Jones' voice, but his pace is much too fast, he sounds rushed, as if he really doesn't want to do it or doesn't enjoy doing it. I hope i can get a refund and try another version.

Bible New Testament
My acquaintance with the Bible has beeen Sunday School and Church as an adult. The person giving the sermon read and also interpreted. After decades, I realized we kept hearing the same parts of the Bible and perhaps it was time to read the book. For me, reading the Bible was boring. Decided to try listening and this changed everything. James Earl Jones' voice makes the passages clear. Not far into listening I realized I had never heard some of these things before. Every day, for about an hour while doing miscellaneous chores, I listen. Really enjoying the story and the deep voice coming through my earbuds.

Fantastic Listen
This audiobook is great for listening. This isn't a study tool. It is relaxing and "comforting" to listen to. I like the hymns played in the background, they are very appropriate for James Earl Jones deep voice. I enjoy listening to it when I need to unwind or relax.

It gave me the feeling of sitting under a tree....
I know that many of the reviewers of this version of audio Bible thought that the background music was not fitting or even a bit distracting to the listeners, but I think that it is just a matter of listening and getting used to this format. I do believe that the 'sample' piece could have been chosen from a better exerpt of the book, but I didn't let that sway me from going ahead and purchasing it. Once I listened for a little while, I found that the music plus the wonderful and eloquent sound of JEJ's voice was very soothing and for me, a severe insomniac, that was a delightful experience!
However, that being said, I did find that sometimes the volume or maybe it was just JEJ's way of pronouncing some names and words often made it hard to understand what he was reading and that is the only reason why I didn't give his version of the New Testament reading five stars!
Mr. Jones is one of my favorite actors and the sound of his voice in whatever character he portrayed is always such a joy to listening to. He could have put a little more emphysis in some places, but that is just my opinion and the way I read and not necessarily how others would read some passages, so I am not going to put that into the rating.
All in all, this particular audio version of the KJV Bible gave me the feeling of sitting under a tree in the cool of the evening with the wind gently blowing and hearing sweet music come down from the heavens as this strong, yet soft, gentle, deep voice tells you the story of Jesus, His love, and the life yet to come....and peaceful sleep comes a little easier - at least for me!
I will be very honest and say that I am looking into a more dramatized version of the entire Bible at Audible.com for use during the day when I need to try and visualize more of what I am hearing while I go about my daily routine; but for relaxing and drifting off to sleep - I'll stick with this version.

Voice good, music terrible.
The voice of Mr. Jones is very good. However, it was a bit too soft and reverential for my taste. Would it not have been better if it carried a bit more punch and authority?
However, that's a minor quibble when compared to the accompanying 'music'. It was spectacularly horrendous. Saccharine nonsense that destroyed the recording. (And that piano!)
It was the King James bible. Could we not have some music from that period to accompany it? Something appropriate. The english is beautiful and powerful, but how can we listen to it when it's accompanied by that noise?

Mind-numbingly boring. What a waste of an amazing voice actor. I thought he'd at least do a few voices for the characters but it's like he's not even trying.
