Story
The Ignatian goal of "finding God in all things" eans that every part of our lives can lead us to God. The Jesuit Guide to (Almost) Everything shows us how this is possible, with user-friendly examples, humorous stories and anecdotes from the heroic and inspiring lives of Jesuit saints and average priests and brothers, as well as examples from Martin's twenty years as a Jesuit. The traditional wisdom that Jesuits use to help other people in their daily lives is easily applied, but not often explained well to the general public.

On the day after the Orlando nightclub shooting, James Martin SJ posted a video on Facebook in which he called for solidarity with our LGBT brothers and sisters. He then implored his fellow Catholics - and people everywhere - to "stand not only with the people of Orlando but also with their LGBT brothers and sisters."

Many of us do not trust our own thoughts, feelings, and desires when it comes to discerning God's will. Instead we look outside ourselves to determine what God wants from and for us. In God's Voice Within, spiritual director Mark E. Thibodeaux, SJ, shows us how to use Ignatian discernment to access our own spiritual intuition and understand that the most trustworthy wisdom of all comes not from outside sources, but from God working through us.

Throughout this epic journey, Fr. Barron uses art, literature, personal stories, Scripture, theology, philosophy and history to present a complete picture of the Church to the world.

King's Cross is Timothy Keller's revelatory look at the life of Christ as told in the Gospel of Mark. There have been many biographies of Jesus, but few will be as anticipated as this one by Keller, the man Newsweek calls "a C. S. Lewis for the 21st century". In it, Keller shows how the story of Jesus is at once cosmic, historical, and personal, calling each of us to look anew at our relationship with God.

Over the past hundred years, scholars have attacked the historical truth of the Gospels and argued that they were originally anonymous and filled with contradictions. In The Case for Jesus, Brant Pitre taps in to the wells of Christian scripture, history, and tradition to ask and answer a number of different questions, including: If we don't know who wrote the Gospels, how can we trust them? How are the four Gospels different from other Gospels, such as the lost Gospel of "Q" and the Gospel of Thomas?

Millions of Christians have struggled with how to reconcile God's love and God's judgment: Has God created billions of people over thousands of years only to select a few to go to heaven and everyone else to suffer forever in hell? Is this acceptable to God? How is this "good news"? Author, pastor, and innovative teacher Rob Bell presents a deeply biblical vision for rediscovering a richer, grander, truer, and more spiritually satisfying way of understanding heaven, hell, God, Jesus, salvation, and repentance.

Publisher's Summary
A gifted storyteller and spiritual director, Father James Martin, SJ, invites listeners to experience the stories of the Gospels in a completely new, vivid, and exciting way to gain a deeper understanding of Jesus. Moving sequentially through the Gospels, considering not only familiar passages but also the "hidden life" of Jesus, the book offers a bold retelling of the life of Christ, faithful to the Christian tradition, while meditating on parts of the narrative that have often escaped notice.
Martin provides personal stories from his own life, the most up-to-date biblical scholarship, and powerful anecdotes from beloved spiritual teachers, and brings the listener along on his own real-life travels through the Holy Land.
Combining the fascinating insights of historical Jesus studies with profound spiritual reflections about the Christ of faith, Martin re-creates the world of first-century Galilee and Judea to usher us into Jesus's life and times and reveal how Jesus speaks to us today. Jesus: A Pilgrimage is an invitation to know Jesus as Father Martin knows him: Messiah and Savior, as well as friend and brother.

Loved it
When I began I felt like I missed parts because there was so much information so then I realized that I had focus on listening rather than having it as "background" By the end I was wanting more and didn't want it to end. It made me think and changed my perspective on a lot of the stories I grew up hearing. I would recommend to anyone who doesn't feel like it's possible to "know" Jesus. This book changed my mind

I Never Thought I'd Say This, But. . .
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'm recommending this book to anyone of any faith who is interested in spirituality. Following the process of St. Ignatius Loyola, Fr. James Martin (a Jesuit priest) shows us how to pray in a different way. He uses his own experience of prayer, in connection with his one visit to the Holy Land, to teach a very simple but also very exciting way to get beyond the recitation of words to a real understanding of spirituality. For the Catholic reader, this book also will teach how to understand the Church's approach to Sacred Scripture. Fr. Martin reads this book himself, and he is the best one to do it, having lived the experiences he describes. I can't recommend this audiobook enough!

Visiting the Holy Land with James and Jesus
Listening to this book I felt like I was there on pilgrimage with James Martin and his friend and fellow priest George. I felt the broiling heat of the sun and the cool breezes from the Sea of Galilee. I could sense the occasional mundane sites with their cheap trinkets being sold to bored tourists claiming some Biblical event may have happened there. But I could also hear the thunder and the roar of the waves sinking the boat as Jesus crossed the sea and I could hear His voice as He stood and calmed the sea. I could hear Him speak as He preached to the people sitting in a simple fishing boat at a natural amphitheater at the Sea of Galilee. I almost shivered from touching the cold stone slab on which the dead body of Jesus was prepared for burial. Most important, I could sense the presence of Jesus healing at the pool of Bethsaida and multiplying the loaves to feed the multitude and rise from His tomb to speak once again to Peter, Mary Magdalene, James Martin, and me.

Know thy enemy
Over and over again Fr. Martin attempts to pass off heresy as Catholic Christian teaching. He presents a enticing "slippery slope" by reaching out to ones feelings instead of authentic teachings from the great saints and the undeniable Truth of Jesus Christ and His Curch. Stay far away from Fr. Martin's writings and pray for his immortal soul.

Mixed genre, solid scholarship, great breadth
Maybe I enjoyed this book the more, because it brought back the experiences of my own pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and found Fr Jim's personal accounts of of his peregrinations in search of the Holy Places evocative and honest. At first, I was a wee bit concerned we might be treated to all the "holiday snaps", but Fr Jim does know how to weave together personal experience, theology, history, archaeology, bible criticism and exegesis from many sources. And he is never po' faced. I'm glad that his pilgrimage gave him as much pleasure (but sometimes irritation) as mine did, but he can tell the tale better and to more effect than I.

Brilliant
Brilliant book. I was looking for a book on Jesus to listen to during Lent.
This book walks you you though the geography as well as the history of Jesus's time here on earth which gives the story more more realism. Fr. Martin explains the location and the settings of where each story from the bible happened and it now paints a clearer picture in my head of what actually happened.
This book was a joy to listen to - I probably got a bit annoying with my family because I kept trying to explain things that suddenly made much more sense to me :-)
I'll listen to this book again for sure.

E njoyed immensely. I felt I was a fellow Pilgrim. A rewarding experience which challenged much of my thinking on Jesus Christ, true man and true God. A wonderful adventure and encouragement for meditation on the Gospels. I felt the narration was perfect and that comes from a stick in the mud Brit, who does not warm easily to American narration. I highly recommend this book.

It was beautifully written with readings from the Gospels, exposition and story telling about James' own pilgrimage in the Holy Land. I really felt that I was experiencing the sights with him and it gave me a new insight into the stories in the Gospels about Jesus and about the parables and miracles. A great book.
