Publisher's Summary

A game of Gods. A clash of Titans.

Ancient Israel thought she was bringing unity, progress, and change. She brought Baal, the storm god of Canaan.

870 BC. Israel. Beautiful Jezebel of Tyre marries King Ahab of Israel to bring peace in a time of war. But, when Jezebel builds a temple of Baal in the heart of Israel, the “mad prophet” Elijah challenges her to a duel of deities.

In the supernatural realm, spiritual warfare breaks out as the demonic Canaanite Watchers led by Baal battle to take the land back from the Archangels who protect the remnant of Israel.

And so begins the war of gods and men.

Join the battle in this heart-racing epic story of supernatural conflict, action, and love based on the Bible and ancient historical research by a respected Christian author.

This is a story in a spin-off series to Chronicles of the Nephilim. What if the pagan gods of the nations were fallen angelic Watchers from God’s throne?

Jezebel: Harlot Queen of Israel is part of the series Chronicles of the Watchers that charts the influence of spiritual warfare on human history, just like Chronicles of the Nephilim and Chronicles of the Apocalypse.

Pretty Weak Overall

I have read some of Brian Godawa's works on e-books in the past, and liked them pretty well. This book did not sit well with me. Perhaps it was the narration. As a general rule, I don't think it's a good idea for authors to do their own narration. The narration is not terrible, but it's not very good either. A great narration could have helped this book. Oh, and one more thing, a narrator should never sing the lyrics to a song. It's corny, even for good singers, and Brian is not that great of a singer. Another issue that I had was the use of that cheesy reverb. If you are going to use effects, which I think is unnecessary anyway, at least get something with some quality.

As for the book itself, the biggest flaw that I noticed was the lack of character development. All the characters were pretty much flat and one dimensional. The portrayal of the gods, in particular, was awful. You'd think beings that have been around since the beginning of time would have a little more depth to their personalities. Their petty and childlike antics were not very believable for truly malevolent and evil beings that have corrupted mankind for many centuries.

I have about four hours left on this book, but I don't think I'm going to finish it.

Great series

Brian Godawa’s books are very interesting and a great introduction on the back story behind the scriptures. However, I find it very amusing how he especially focuses on the sexual behaviors of the watchers almost to the point of porn. The books already have a great story line those inserts could almost be eliminated. Given a hit not an indebted view is overkill. It’s like he gets himself off on it. Overall, books are informative and entertaining guard yourself well when reading.

The best yet

if you’ve never read any of Brian Godawa’s books start with these. Jezebel: Harlot Queen of Israel: Chronicles of the Watchers, Book 1 and Qin: Dragon Emperor of China (Chronicles of the Watchers Book 2). As much as I love all of his other books with these two in the new series he is at the top of his game. If you were a fan and have not read them they are awesome. If your new to Brian Godawa get ready. I am at 21 books and counting.

If you liked "Screwtape Letters" you'll LOVE this

Our whole family loved Screwtape Letters and bought it in every format available. IMHO Brian Godawa has done an even better job than C.S. Lewis of drawing the listener "inside the head" of characters like Jezebel and other "wicked" characters in a way that is entertaining and thought-provoking -- and sometimes painfully realistic. I have over 150 Audibles, and you can count on your fingers the ones I have listened to multiple times, and this is one. The author has unusual skills both in writing and performing stories -- his voice characters are colorful, distinctive and believable. Enjoy.

The next journey begins

Jezebel Harlot queen of Israel is awesome. I have the pleasure of owning all of Brian Godawa.com Audible and he never ceases to amaze me to step up and add a new twist to every story. I went in thinking this will be a rewrite of some of his earlier books but I was wrong. Although some of the characters are familiar the story is just captivating. I am currently reading The Spiritual World of Jezebel and Elijah. The only sad part is I now have to wait for book 3 of the series to come out from the Watchers. Write quickly Brian

Imaginative retelling of a TRUE horror account

The account on which this yarn is spun is a True account of history. Elijah, and his successor, Elisha, are real people. Jehosheba, Ahaziah's sister did hide the infant Joash in the Temple, away from Athaliah, who had intended to murder every claimant to the line of David... Jezebel, and her wicked husband Ahab were truly evil. Don't kid yourself.

What I did not like is that, to create memorable, comprehensible narrative, seven angels are named and ranked. The Bible names only three- Michael, Gabriel, and, the adversary, Lucifer. Michael alone, Israel's warrior, is called archangel. But the story would be very difficult to follow in this format if Jehu's wife didn't have a name, and her sister.

You very much need to read your Bible. Then, once you know what is true, you can allow the author his creative license.

I really liked that the author narrated his own book. Unlike others, I wasn't bothered by the dramatic portions, which helped me follow along.

Whatever you do, don't follow fables headlong. But good fiction is entertaining. However, if you are sensitive to innuendo and explicit description, you won't like this.

Jezebel

Great job! Brian Godawa has done it again. It takes an incredible spirit to pull of of this together. And, tie it to the scriptures.

I found it up be far more than entrainment.

Thank you Brian. Great job!!

Please find a proper Narrator.

I purchased and somewhat enjoyed many of Godawa's books, which both qualify me for reviewing them and limits the validity of my criticisms. If I did not like them, I would not have bought them. But that’s not the whole story.
I think every churched Christian should listen to some of his work, because his perspective is quite fresh and not seemingly dominated by Reformed or Pentecostal theology. This is a compliment to the author and a recommendation of his work, not an endorsement of his views. Weather he is right or wrong - especially with regards to the end times - I don’t know. His confidence may even be a distraction as prophesies do not appear to me as being a history of the future. Either way, he may well be right.
His views and depiction of the Nephilim and the Biblical characters are entertaining and fictional, requiring an achievable measure of suspended disbelieve to make the fiction work. The epilogs of his books are most useful and may well be the best part of it. It was a disappointment to me, when I purchased and listened to “When Giants were upon the earth” or “When Watchers ruled the Nations” don’t recall which, I may be both, to realized it’s a collection or epilogs from his other books. Of course it remains excellent, but why do I have to pay again? It should say in the details: You are buying the same stuff twice.
The reason I stopped listening to his books relate to the narration. I normally listen with earphones, often while riding motorcycle, but then some demented demon would scream into my ear. Godawa does not have the voice to sound like a god, so he compensates with volume, producing a screaming match that utterly fails to sound manly, godly or even devilish. It’s just noise and he does not have the curtesy to view the audio files on an editor…. O but that is impossible! So, he must have noticed the volume is a rollercoaster with such abrupt spikes such as when some Satan scream into one’s ears.
Mr Godawa should do two things: Get a proper narrator and review the volume, so one can listen without keeping one hand on the volume button.

warning, storyline interesting but too graphic

this story was advertised as following the bible but I found it to be overly violent and graphic sexual content which offends me and was unable to continue listening
