Publisher's Summary

If you want to discover the captivating life of John Adams, then pay attention....

John Adams once wrote, “People and nations are forged in the fires of adversity.” That was very much Adams’ experience. Although he was often maligned, he didn’t deserve it. Having been born in the English colony of Massachusetts in 1735, he not only witnessed a new nation emerging from the shell of infancy, but he also participated in its growing pains. Adams was a man who was frequently asked to assume roles in which he had little experience, like that of a diplomat to France and England. In a sense, he was a part of the vanguard that the government had thrown into the fray.

But why would the government choose him to represent their interests? Perhaps the main reason was that John Adams was a lawyer and understood the legal significance of treaties and agreements. He was also a simple and objective man who knew how to get to the heart of an issue in quick order.

In John Adams: A Captivating Guide to an American Founding Father Who Served as the Second President of the United States of America, you will discover topics such as:

  • John Adams: political activist
  • From counsel to patriot
  • The Second Continental Congress
  • John Adams: diplomat & constitutionalist
  • John Adams: Vice President and then President under the new Constitution
  • To Fight or Not to Fight: The quasi-war
  • 1800: The politics of dissension
  • John Adams: His thoughts and retirement
  • And much, much more!

I Enjoye It

John Adams loved life and sought to truly enjoy it. Even in his final days, when he was ill and suffering from fading eyesight, he continued to enjoy his life. He loved sharing life with others.

This is the best book.

This is the best book. I listened to it and I did not want it to end. John and Abigail wrote this book through their letters. They were so committed to this new idea in our country I had to relisten it to remind myself how strongly I love and believe in the ideals this great man and companions fought and sacrificed their lives.

Light listen

A rather abridged account of the Roman republic, with an unusually large number of opinions and personal observations, make this audible less a historical reference, so much as a guide audible

Interesting guy!

Mr Adams is depicted as somewhat irascible, but with a wonderful turn of phrase (both written and verbal)! Maybe, like an early version of Noel Coward?
However, he sure had an interesting, variable and challenging life ....and made his mark on the early United States of America!

Most interesting figure

John Adams was one of those men you either liked or didn't. This audible brings him to life in such a way that it explains the deep beliefs of this founding father. He isn't as well written about as some but this audible has quite a bit of information in here as to explain who he was and why he made some of the choices he did. I highly recommend this audible.

Superb Listening

This audible in one of our country’s most forgotten figures. Maybe because it was early in our country’s history as more seems to be focused on the modern era.
John Adams was a man of many talents who helped shape policy in the newly formed country.
