Story
Lazarus occupies a surprising position in the Gospel accounts. Widely known as the man Jesus raised from the dead, his story is actually much broader and richer than that. Living as he did at Bethany, near Jerusalem, Lazarus was uniquely placed to witness the swirl of events around Jesus. When Jesus Wept, the first novel in The Jerusalem Chronicles series by best-selling authors Bodie and Brock Thoene, unfolds the turbulent times in Judea during Jesus' ministry, centering on the friendship between Jesus and Lazarus.

Publisher's Summary
The year is AD 95, and John, the one whom Jesus called "beloved", is the last of the 12 apostles still alive. Now nearing 90, John is still committed to spreading the good news of Jesus Christ. When a renegade begins misleading the masses with dangerous, heretical teachings, John is called by God to write a gospel to show that Jesus was, in fact, the Son of God.
Recalling his time with Jesus, John brings to life the miracles and messages of the man who would change the course of history. And as John recounts the miracles the Messiah performed during his transformative time on earth, we too are transported to those glorious events.
John experiences persecution, betrayal, torture, and exile but never falters in his belief or commitment. John's Story is a thrilling account of the life of the man who came to fulfill the prophecies of the Old Testament and to save all of humankind, and of the disciple who was the last eyewitness to Jesus' glory.
John's Story brings to life the most important events in human history and also includes the very words that John wrote, words that continue to bring followers to Jesus every day.

Good listen but lacking
If you are trying to figure out if you should download this book, do so. It is interesting and worth a listen, although it is not the same "drats I have finished my commute and I'm in the middle of a chapter" feel as some of the Left Behind series. It is largely a retelling of the Gospel of John word-for-word. There are some parts that offer an insight as to what it may have been like for John, but there are clearly areas where they could have gone further into the historical fiction realm with character development.

The Bible at it's Best
What did you love best about John's Story?
Want to know what the books of the bible are about? These books are in story form....theme, characters, settings. I've tried to read the Bible a hundred times. With stories like this, I can read/listen to the Bible and fully understand each book. What did I love best about John's Story? It's the first of many that I will read.
What was one of the most memorable moments of John's Story?
When I found out that Saul became John, at Jesus' saying it was so.
What about Roberston Dean’s performance did you like?
Excellent.
If you could rename John's Story, what would you call it?
I wouldn't.

Disappointed
Struggled to get past the first chapter, I did not like that John seem to always be angry. I do not see John in the Bible as an angry man but a man of compassion and love.

A little depressing
I felt this book depicts John as defeated, full of the fear of dying. I know they're trying to be realistic but making John in such a depressing state, while proclaiming one of the most incredible truths. I understand there was a battle and that he was old, but it makes you wonder if this is the victorious life that John wrote of. This is the victory that overcomes the world? I think John should have been placed a little bit more apostolic such as Paul. The other details such as his companions and his enemies were good. But when you have no true basis to make John a defeated character, it's almost like defamation of character.

John’s Story: The Last Eyewitness - a great book!
I love everything about this book, from the content to the narrator! I am moved by the unwavering faith and eternal love of John for Jesus, He has a martyr's heart for Him. And though his body (temple) ages and breaks down, his spirit man remains strong, resolved, fixed on Jesus. It's very powerful, seeing a laid down life lived out...John knew to Whom belonged his life, and he lived it in that way.
And I love the relationship between John, Polycarp and Ignatius. Every Believer should be blessed to have an older, mature, Spirit-filled Christian mentoring them and doing life with them...through John's faith and love for Jesus, Polycarp and Ignatius loved Jesus with their whole hearts, and were willing to die for Him. They counted it an honor to die for Jesus.
Oh that my heart would be so full of love for Jesus that my blood would quench the very fire that tried to consume me...
Jesus, for Your sake, I would be honored to die a martyr's death.

Over dramatic and populist
Lacks any sense of spirituality in its over dramatic populist style. Stay with the Bible and dump this in the metaphorical trash can for wasted literary efforts.
