Publisher's Summary

Jud Low was 18 years old, from the East, and as green as could be when his father decided to pull up stakes and set them on the Oregon Trail. Not far from Abilene, Kansas, the two were put out of the wagon train after Jud’s father got into an argument with the wagon master. The father and son headed south.

Not long after, Jud found himself alone and on foot, his father having frozen to death during a cold winter night. He made his way south and stumbled onto a small cattle ranch, finding himself a job and a great friendship. When his new friend is murdered and robbed, Jud finds himself forced to become a man sooner than he’d expected to.

A Fast-Paced Western leaving me wanting more

Jud Low Cattle company is an enjoyable listen for anyone interested in an action packed western. The story follows young Jud Low after his father passed and his adventures becoming a reluctant but gifted gunslinger.

The story was well plotted and breezed by. In just an hour I got my "shoot'em up and had a whiskey shot at the bar" fill.

Something that stuck with me is that Jud is only 18 but quite resourceful and mature for his age. Maybe his previous schooling gave him the wisdom to figure out his way so swiftly.

Would recommend to Western fans and might consider listening to further books.

Retro Like Western - Action Adventure

At the tender age of 18 and a recent city boy, Jud Low lost his father, and found himself alone in the wild west! He managed to find his way to a small cattle ranch where he learned the trade. Not new to death, his friend is murdered and robbed. Now Jud Low must become the man he is destined to become and grow up.

The author, John Thurmond writes a coming-of-age story set in the wild west. His story flows easily providing a strong background and solid character development. The dialogue is realistic as well. The story reminds me of some great old-time westerns – Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and others.

The narrator, Brooks Corley provides a strong deep voice that resonates throughout the story. He projects the story's emotions including anger, loss, sympathy, and more. His speech is clear and steady. His voice is smooth and soothing to hear. He brings the story come to life!

This is a book that has adventure, suspense, and camaraderie as well as a tinge of the old west. Although I rarely listen to or read a western genre book it was interesting and entertaining. Both the author and narrator enhanced the story to make it engaging for the listener.

There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.

Scratches my itch for Westerns

I haven't spent a lot of time with Western books and audiobooks, but that's going to change after this. A great narrator takes you on a really fun ride. Great suspense and interesting throughout. This is a fun listen.
