John Grisham is the acknowledged master of the legal thriller. In his first collection of novellas, law is a common thread, but America’s favorite storyteller has several surprises in store. “Homecoming” takes us back to Ford County. Jake Brigance is back, but he’s not in the courtroom. In “Strawberry Moon,” we meet Cody Wallace, a young death row inmate only three hours away from execution. The “Sparring Partners” are the Malloy brothers, Kirk and Rusty, two young lawyers who inherited a once prosperous firm when its founder, their father, was sent to prison.

Publisher's Summary
The instant New York Times best seller
New York Times best-selling author Joseph Finder returns with an explosive new thriller about a female judge and the one personal misstep that could lead to her - and her family's - downfall.
It was nothing more than a one-night stand. Juliana Brody, a judge in the Superior Court of Massachusetts, is rumored to be in consideration for the federal circuit, maybe someday the highest court in the land. At a conference in a Chicago hotel, she meets a gentle, vulnerable man and has an unforgettable night with him - something she’d never done before. They part with an explicit understanding that this must never happen again.
But back home in Boston, Juliana realizes this was no random encounter. The man from Chicago proves to have an integral role in a case she's presiding over - a sex-discrimination case that's received national attention. Juliana discovers that she's been entrapped, her night of infidelity captured on video. Strings are being pulled in high places, a terrifying unfolding conspiracy that will turn her life upside down.
But soon, it becomes clear that personal humiliation, even the possible destruction of her career, are the least of her concerns, as her own life and the lives of her family are put in mortal jeopardy.
In the end, turning the tables on her adversaries will require her to be as ruthless as they are.
Critic Reviews
“This is an exquisite game of cat and mouse. Finder is fully in his groove here. The guy never disappoints. Judgment rocks.” (David Baldacci)
"Joseph Finder's Judgment is a pitch perfect, ripped from the headlines thriller. An intense ride that grabs hold and refuses to let go. Judge Juliana Brody is a magnificent character, a perfect blend of believable vulnerability and ruthlessness to protect her family." (Mark Greaney, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Mission Critical)
“I finished Joseph Finder’s Judgment after six hours of high-adrenaline reading. What a great premise: A judge’s one-night fling a thousand miles from home becomes the basis for an attempt to blackmail her in an important case. And that is merely the first surprise. Judgment is smart, swift and well-informed. I loved it!” (Scott Turow)

Secrets buried in secrets!!!!
This has got to be the best book Joseph Finder has ever written! I started listening and could not put this down with the exception of needing sleep! But then started listening again as soon as morning came.
The protagonist is a judge (Juliana Brody). She's gotten herself into a pretty sticky situation. Following a one night stand she finds herself facing a blackmailer who only wants rulings that he's sent her instructions to give. These rulings will allow a Russian oligarch to continue doing something secretive and potentially devastating here on the US.
This book isn't just an onion with all it's layers, this book is an onion farm! The protagonist is likable, the antagonist is detestable and the storyline is believable and nail bitingly fast paced. The momentum builds to a break neck speed as you get closer to the ending.
January LaVoy does a phenomenal job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATIONS.

Couldn't go there
I'm a retired trial lawyer. I tried several hundred cases to jury verdicts, hundreds more to judicial decisions, and was in court regularly for more than forty years. Not suprisingly, I have a hard time suspending disbelief with courtroom dramas because most authors can't or choose not to accurately depict how the litigation system works. Author Finder has a good rep as a suspense writer, and I bought Judgment hoping for the best. Nope. Less than an hour into it, I had to quit. The reader was good (only three stars because of the book), though. I'd listen to her again. I should have picked a Finder thriller without a legal backdrop.

Critics thought this was good ???
This book should be a textbook in a crime writing class. It's plot cliches can be numbered by the page. The heroine, who is described as smart, is dumb as a bag of hammers, and less interesting. Listen to it if you like to root for the forces of evil, no matter how boring, or if you have an overdeveloped love of parody. It is bad, and probably destined for the screen.

This story wraps up nicely
Finder is known for writing plots that could, at least in theory, happen to anyone. The idea being that the protagonist isn't someone of extraordinary means who does something outlandish to trigger the events of the story. In this case, it's the story of a woman's single lapse in judgment that causes a series of peripheral events that threaten to send her life spiraling forever out of control. And the "mission" being, what can one normal person do to pull that life back from the precipice and bring order to the chaos. Maybe even stay out of prison.
Mr. Finder continues to excel in this niche as Judgement is another thriller that kept me reading long into the night. It was also something of a blend of my favorite concepts from his early books, titles where CIA spooks lurked in the shadows and government intrigue was at the heart of the plot. The CIA and government-related motivation isn't front and center in this book, but it's hiding in the shadows. All in all, a fun and intriguing thriller.

TSTL Heroine Ruins Story
The main character of this book is supposed to be an intelligent superior court judge. Right from the first few pages you will realize she is an idiot. I kept listening just to see how truly dumb her decision making would be and I wasn't disappointed. When she is told not to go to another character's hotel room because it's too dangerous, she immediately leaves and goes there. She is mindlessly coerced into having a one night stand even though she is happily married. I could go on, but I'll just sum it up this way: Elle Woods from Legally Blonde looks like Einstein compared to Juliana Brody. January LaVoy's narration was excellent as always.

Another Great Test of Human Spirit
You are a good Judge, You follow the rules, you follow the law. Then someone threatens to take it all away from you. How will you stop from loosing everything while playing by the rules. In this new thriller Joseph Finder has placed another person in a situation where extraordinary grit and cunningness are all they have to fight for their life. One of the best reads or listens I have heard in a while. January LaVoy is outstanding as the narrator and I was on the edge of my seat. Set some time aside because once you start you may not be able to stop listening until the very end.

AWFUL!
An hour in, I wanted this to be over, yet I wanted to know how it could end. I put it on 1.5 speed to get it over quicker. The judge was unlikeable and an idiot. Her every move was stupider than the previous move. The whole story was silly and stupid. The bad guys were so ready to kill people, why didn't they just kill the plaintiff and be done with the case? Did you think of that, Mr Finder? The drama was just overdone. I've liked the author's previous books, but not this one.
