Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Publisher's Summary
We’ve won a battle...but we’re losing the war.
Travis Miller, his image reformed from the moron who screwed up our first contact with aliens to one of the heroes of the Battle for Eden, is given a new assignment: Retake the occupied colony of Brigantia. Losing it would be a glancing blow to the Tahni Imperium, but it would be Earth’s first solid strike against them, a chance to go on the offensive.
Ryan Hendrix and the Fleet Marines will be the tip of the spear, outfitted with their new Aegis-powered armor, while Jessica Leer and her Fleet Strike fighter squadron clear the way for the Marines and their landers, sacrificing their lives to get boots on the ground.
But even a victory on Brigantia won’t mean the end of the war.
And it might just make the Tahni angry enough to do something desperate, to strike deep into the heart of the Commonwealth, where we least expect it....
Once again, Travis is forced to choose between his orders and what he knows is right. And for him, win or lose, it’s judgment day....

Good book, fun series, a few issues.
For the most part the book and series are fun and enjoyable with good characters and an interesting premise. With this book however it does fall into the unfortunate trope of depicting the military as mostly honorable and just in part by contrasting them with 'bureaucrats' and 'politicians' who are selfish and cowardly and who the heroic military have to work around. Also displays an unfortunately poor understanding of the Vietnam War on the part of a main character. Maybe that's just the in-universe pro-corporate authoritarian education system.

Great Mil-Sci-Fi, slow character building
I'm glad Audible added books 2 and 3 of this series to the 'Plus' membership. While the first book was enjoyable Military Science Fiction, there isn't enough character building or ingrained plot devices to captivate a reader into purchasing the next in the series. However, the plot was interesting enough to give Judgment Day a chance as a 'Plus' offer. The Mil-Sci-Fi in Judgment Day is also very strong and, while the character building is still slow coming, it does come. By the end of Judgment Day you are definitely hooked and looking forward to book 3!

I absolutely love these books (1&2)
Ive been in a media rut recently. All I seem to enjoy are old books movies and shows that Ive already seen. Not old literally speaking I meant old as in Ive experienced them.
Than I started Genesis book 1 of the Holy War series. It was awesome. I absolutely loved it. Book 2 as well. No let down at all. Partlow doesn't do what many other series do. The characters that yoy grew to root for in book one where the same characters you spent time with in book 2, with one exception. A guerrilla fighter interlude which is great anyway.
I dont feel the need to summarize in reviews. You've read the description. Let me say this. If you like good military Science fiction, without the need for deep 3 dimensional characters (the character work is good but you know their motivations from the start and they arent complex, which I prefer in my military fiction) plus some technical military stuff both in space and on the ground, than this is for you.
I finished 2 books which I havent done in a long time. Get the first one free than buy the others. Rick Partlow deserves it for writing an entertaining series

Ripping military sci-fi adventurisn
First up, I do acknowledge that the antagonist aliens are presented as a simplist monoculture. And this carries over to their performance in the battlefield. I cant help but wish more time was given to their perspectives.
That said, Partlow knows how to knock out a military story with the perfect balance of interesting characters, political drama, action, strategy, hard sci-fi and even a little romance thrown in.
Too many space opera in this genre forget to develop not just the main heroes as believable characters, but the entire supporting cast. Partlow deftly sucks you into the lives, fears, loves and very human quirks of every human in this story. Plot is great. But great characters that you can feel sorrow and joy for is better.

Solid effort, worth the listen
I’ll be a little different from my usual reviews and list my dislikes first. I didn’t like the interludes. I get that they weren’t long enough for a chapter but it wouldn’t have taken much to expanded a little and made them into their own small chapter. Secondly the death toll on major characters was a little lower than expected. Like an American brew hah movie with Sly Stallone or Arnie Schwarzenegger.
Apart from that I like how Rick Partlow described the space battles. The great performance of James Patrick Cronin added a level of depth, which took me further into the book than I was expecting. Rarely do I feel like the second book in a series is as good as the first. This book wasn’t as good as the first, it was better and I am actually looking forward for the next book in the series.
