Publisher's Summary

Assistant District Attorney Lettie Portman charges a US senator with the murder of his wife.

The wife was found dead, sitting in her Mercedes with a garden hose from the exhaust into her window. Suicide? Maybe, except the detectives learn the wife's fingerprints are nowhere on the hose. She appears to reach from the grave and point an accusing finger at her husband. And there's another twist: The senator's million-dollar lawyer is involved in a deadly conspiracy against Lettie.

Lettie is hard at work on the case when she finds Detective Tony Reedy won't give up on her. She's been injured before when she lost her childhood. But she wants to love again and she asks him to wait. He reaches out, but will he be able to touch her?

Pretty good legal drama...

Although I liked the first book in this series more, I think this is a very good book as well. The way the book begins is nowhere near where it ends. The story takes an about face about 1/2 way through and there went all my predictions! From that point on it’s like watching dominoes fall. Lettie and a team working with her set up a corrupt senator and the outcome was a complete surprise.
Therese Plummer does a great job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Did the co-author even read the first book?

I put this book away almost didn't finish it. kill off the brother that killed himself in the first book. what happened to the loving attorney husband from book 1? I would be embarrassed by the huge errors in this book.

Same character dies twice?

In book Peoples Lawyer, book 1, Dennis dies….how is same character is alive to die again in book 2 Justice in Time. This is my reasoning for low story rating

Disappointing and confusing

I’ve read almost every book this author has written and I’m a huge fan. So, as a series lover, and a fan I started this one. The first book was great, this second book? Not so much. Apparently, her brother came back from the dead after committing suicide in the first book, only to be killed in the second one. Her husband, from the first book, was all but gone in the second book and never mentioned. Storyline was so scattered sometimes, that I had to rewind thinking I had missed something. So disappointing. I certainly won’t follow this series, if it continues.
The only saving grace was the narrator who is amazing!!

Too many inconsistencies

I normally love all of Johns books but this one had me scratching my head as it reversed story lines set in the first book. What happened to Joe who was Letties love intest? Also, her brother Dennis commented suicide with her on the phone but was living with her in this book. I kept waiting for clarification and once I put them out of mind I was able to enjoy the rest of this story line.

A few things bugged me…

First, I liked the book and I’m a new fan of this author. Everything moves along quickly and entertainingly. I have issues with the lack of continuity and tying up loose ends from the first book. What happened to her husband in such a short period of time? Didn’t her brother die in the first book or is this a new brother? Why didn’t the sperm evidence blow his story out of the water? Did I miss something?? For a cop, it’s all in the details and these details were left unexplained and leave this reader wanting answers.

So strange

This is the weirdest second book I've ever listened to or read. It's like the author had a brain injury and forgot what he wrote in book one. I couldn't even finish it because it was so stupid.

No. Just no!

Loved the first book. WTH happened? You don’t write a series and change significant parts of the story line! Even ignoring that…the storylines were very choppy and I rolled my eyes multiple times over things said or done. I had to finish it because I had started it. I also wanted to see if it would get any better. It did not.

Not really a book 2

After reading book 1 of the Lettie Portman series I was eager to read this one…the idea and concept is good but such a shame it dismissed some of the book 1 story building…Eg a very unlucky brother to have been killed in both books! And a husband who disappeared completely! Overall this has let down the story which could have been so much better had this been acknowledged. If you haven’t read book 1 then it’s a good book, if you have read book 1 then you will feel disappointed
