Story
In a battle of the heart, who will be the first to submit? My name is Jamie Atwood, and I am an idiot. Against all odds, I got the attention of Michael Kage, the hottest MMA fighter on the planet. To say he rocked my world would be an understatement. He transformed me completely, made me depend on him, and made me love him. And the sex? Let me put it this way: I'd never been with a guy before I met Kage, but I'd gladly spend the rest of my life on my knees for him. He is my obsession and my addiction.

Maximoff Hale is a force of nature. A ship unwilling to be steered. Headstrong, resilient, and wholly responsible - the 22-year-old alpha billionaire can handle his unconventional life. Born into one of the most famous families in the country, his celebrity status began at birth. He is certified American royalty. When he's assigned a new 24/7 bodyguard, he comes face-to-face with the worst case scenario: being attached to the tattooed, MMA-trained, Yale graduate who's known for "going rogue" in the security team - and who fills 1/3 of Maximoff's sexual fantasies.

Story
Michael Kage Santori has just inherited a thriving hotel and millions of dollars. He’s poised to become an MMA champion. Things couldn’t be better between him and his college boy lover, Jamie Atwood - especially in the bedroom, where Jamie is more than eager to let Kage take out his aggressions on him. Kage seems to have it all, but success and happiness have come at a steep price. After all of the childhood trauma he endured at the hands of his controlling uncle, Peter Santori, it’s a miracle Kage has any shred of sanity left. And now, because of him, Jamie is a murderer.

When introverted doctor Ben Hardy's high-maintenance girlfriend wants to introduce a little more kink into their love life, he doesn't expect it to come in the form of the hunky new EMT who just moved to Blackwood. Ben's not gay, but damn! He can definitely see why all the women turn to mush when he's around: tall, blue eyes, body of an underwear model. The prospect of being naked in the same room with him is horrifying. So why the hell is he considering it?

Triple Falls wasn’t at all what it seemed, nor were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets. Secrets that cost us everything to keep. That’s the novelty of fiction versus reality. You can’t re-live your own love story, because by the time you’ve realized you’re living it, it’s over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to. Looking back, I’m convinced I willed my story into existence, due to my illness, and all were punished.

Publisher's Summary
My name is Jamie Atwood, and I'm an addict. I never thought I'd say such a thing. Never had a problem being overly attached to anything in my life. I came from a perfectly middle-class family, made good grades, and had a hot cheerleader girlfriend...but the truth is, nothing ever really moved me.
So how did a guy like me become an addict? I met Michael Kage. Kage is an MMA fighter. A famous one. I like to think I helped him get that way. He's charming as hell, with looks to rival any movie star and talent to back it up. So why did he need to hire me as an intern publicist? Simple. He has a darkness in him - like a black hole so deep it could swallow him and me and everyone we know - and that's not good for business. The first time I met him, I felt the pull. I think the addiction began at that very moment. And even if I'd known then what I know now, I would have fallen for him. How could I not? For me, Kage is everything.

Be Warned
This series is freaking awesome. Absolutely engrossing. Just wow. There are no words.
I admit I did get frustrated with the main characters quite a few times for angst that is everywhere in these books. I tell you your heart will be shredded. But somehow just when I think, "There is no way they are going to do this because of a misunderstanding..." Bam something happens I totally did not see coming and I'm lost in this wonderful, horrible, lovely, gritty, cuddly, sad world. Jeez my heart is going to be stitched together with duck tape and floss. That is just how amazing this story is.
Not to mention the narrator. Ya, I could listen to his voice all day long just because it's that awesome. His voices for Cage and Jamie where so perfect it hurt. And when he brought the heat to a love scene it was panty melting.
****All that said I totally recommend this series. Hands down so worth every penny. HOWEVER you must have ALL three books before you start reading/ listening, because the cliff hangers at the end are absolute murder. Seriously. MURDER. You will die if you do not heed my warning! I know cliffies are hated by many but this series is worth it. You won't be disappointed if your a MxM romance fan.****

Gay fifty shades with a little mafia vibe included
This is really very much like the mm version of fifty shades, but i think i liked this version better. First, the author writes a lot better (which is not an impossible task at all). Second, it might just be the mm storyline but the characters seems more real. It is of cause a fairytale of a young naive (not-gay) man falling for the rich, troubled and lonely MMA fighter, who needs him to function. It is a comming out story for the college student and sort of a dom-sub story (without the whips) due to the personality of the MMA fighter, mostly. I liked that it is infact the MMA fighter who does not have a problem with being gay (he has too many other issues to deal with). It kind of creates an extra layer to an otherwise straigthforward story and makes it stand out a little. It is however not meant to stand alone so unless you commit to listening to all three of the books it wont make much sence. I liked the narration.

KAGE INSTANTLY WON ME OVER
I have several MMA series in my library but Kage is by far the best I've listened to. I've purchased several M/M books and returned all of them except Kage and one other. I like stories where sex fits into the story instead of trying to fit a story around sex. This is a story of triumph, growth, and acceptance. It also has suspense, thrills, mystery, and Hot-Hot Sex.
I was immediately hooked on Kage and Kage was immediately hooked on Jamie. Kage notices the gay tendencies in Jamie so he takes advantage of an opportunity to hire Jamie as his personal publicist. Kage didn't realize Jamie was straight and had girlfriend until Jamie arrives the first day. Later it comes out that she's an x-girlfriend.
Kage works on building a relationship with Jamie and Jamie finds himself being attracted to Kage and having sexual thoughts and feelings about him. It never crossed Jamie's mind that he could be gay. Everyone in Kage's inner circle knows Kage is gay.
I usually don't give *Spoilers* but I was so happy for Jamie. When Jamie's parents and friends find out that he and Kage are a couple...all of them are accepting. Jamie's dad doesn't like it but he loves Jamie so he has a talk with Kage about his true intentions toward Jamie.
Now for the Villen. Kage's uncle, Santori, owns a hotel/casino where Kage lives and trains. Since only Kage's inner circle knows he's gay, Santori sees Jamie as a vulnerability and hindrance who will keep Kage from winning the MMA championship.
Santori also has two thugs who do his dirty work.
This series is full of mystery, suspense, thrills, fun, sad secrets, and hot-hot M/M sex.
I was drawn in at the very beginning of the story. I listened to all three books back-to-back and was sad when the series was over.
J. F. Harding is now in my top 5 favorite male performers. His voice for Kage was mesimerizing. He of course also did Jamie's voice, Jamie's parents, siblings, and friends. Also Kage's friends, uncle, thugs, and employees. Every voice was distinctively different and never a concern about who was speaking.
This series is absolutely without doubt worth a credit and I recommend this series to anyone who likes MMA.

Amazing!
The author really knows how to write a story. It wasn't all about the sex; there was so much build up. I almost couldn't take the antici....pation, in a good way. The author and narrator really take you on the emotional journey, as corny as it sounds. It was a roller coaster of sexual tension, frustration, awkwardness, and humor. Can't wait to start the next one.

Glorifying abuse
The narration is great, and I was enjoying the book until near the end - in what is supposed to be the romantic climax of the story - the author drops in that Kade wants to hurt Jeremy and Jeremy needs to be "strong enough" to love him... I can handle kink, but this is straight up excusing and romantacising abuse.
No. So much No.
Ruined a really good story by making Kade into an abuser. I don't care if Jeremy eventually orgasms. There is NEVER a situation where it's okay to vent your own pain onto your partner as a coping mechanism, and (no matter how much I want to like Kade), I can only be horrified by their relationship. You do not prove your love that way either. My heart just aches for Jeremy (and all the real people) who fall prey to that twisted line of thought.

Laugh Out Loud
Few things can be more Kafkaesque than a story of gay male romance written for women by a woman who seems to have no idea how men speak and behave toward each other. For example:
.
I smell like sweat, blood, and fear, but I wanted you to smell it on me, Jamie.
I want you to smell it on me the first time I f__k you so you'll know who I really am. I need you to know me.
I need my stomach to stop hurting.
The narrator was great. I marvel that he kept from being overtaken by howls of laughter as he read this.

Why haven't I heard more about this trilogy??? WOW
First things first.... CLIFFY WARNING but totally worth it and all 3 books are out so just make sure you have them all ready!
I'm just diving into the world of m/m romance because I tried a few here and there and never really enjoyed them but this trilogy is awesome! The only thing negative I can say is that it's a slow starter but once it grabs you... your done for. I'm speeding my way through them all! I love the MMA fighter bad boy story line! I haven't gotten far enough into the series to know what is really going on but there is a secret background going on that makes this story very exciting. Both Kage and Jamie are strong smart men and when there lives collide it's like magic. I love that we get a lot of time with the characters so it isn't an insta-love and they are both such interesting characters. This book was fun, exciting and don't let me forget HOT!!!!!!!!!!!
The narration is PERFECT! I've never listened to J.F. Harding but I watching for more of his work!

This book will wreck you in the best possible way.
Wow. Just wow. I can't believe this book went where it did. Talk about a K.O.!
Brief synopsis:
Kage and Jamie shouldn't have met. Jamie is a college student, dreaming and bullshitting his way to become a publicist. Kage is an fighter who has dedicated himself to getting to the UFC and he's right at the brink of getting everything he ever wanted. A chance meeting sets Kage and Jamie on a trajectory to collide, and when they do, nothing is the same ever again,
At first I was unsure about listening to a book about a MMA fighter, I don't know enough about the sport, and I've tried other books with that aspect that fell flat. This story is not like any you've read before, Maris Black takes you by the hand and pulls you down a path you never thought would be there. "Kage" pulls you in, and makes you want to immerse yourself in the story until you are left trembling and wondering what happened.
Trust me, this book is one you can't put down. Now, as for me, I'm on to book 2.

The fighter and the man who fought for him
Maris Black has a knack for developing rich characters through point-of-view perspective, and in Kage we become intimately familiar not only with the narrator, straight college jock Jamie Atwood, but also with the object of his instant obsession, aspiring mixed-martial-arts star Michael Kage. The first book stays with Jamie’s narrative, and yet it allows us to really get to know not only the relentless fighter Kage shows the world but the vulnerable young man only Jamie sees.
The trilogy is driven by the irresistible gravitational pull between the two athletes, and how their connection is twisted, broken, and reforged by their own demons, both internal and, in Kage’s case, external. The pacing, story, characterization, and narration are all top-notch, and you even learn a bit about MMA fighting to boot.

Pros and Cons
Cons:
Why were we completely ignoring the fact that he was sexually attracted to this man the second he landed in Las Vegas?
Why was he ignoring the fact that Kate was flirting with him quite strongly.
I mean come on, no ones that oblivious. It clear-cut black-and-white. There was no gray areas there, no one‘s in that much of denial of anything. I get it’s all for build up but come on the flirting and jealousy could’ve hidden better. He kept calling him and sexy multiple times. That was just really annoying.
Pros:
The moment was amazing. The almost kisses, the first time Kage teaching him how to wrestle the choking him out. That got me in my feelings very much.
But I’m seeing way too many reviews saying how amazing and not enough honest ones.
I’m all for a build up. I’m all for that moment but he was strongly attracted to him from day one and come on. Just be honest.

You nailed it J.F. Harding!!
Well, I can honestly say that I'm not usually a great fan of JF Harding's narrations, but he absolutely nailed this one. His carefree, innocent voice for Jamie and the more menacing, deeper one for Kage worked really well, and his female voices have improved a helluva lot in the period since he narrated The Long Way Home by Z A Maxfield.
The story, as I've said below, was OK [3.5 stars] and I'm definitely not into MMA/boxing of any kind; it's pretty dangerous IMHO resulting in frequent serious head injuries despite the care taken, and that certainly doesn't win the fighter any points from me or make them look any hotter [although I know there are people out there that like the caveman look and attitude], BUT it is surprisingly still considered a sport....
***Book Review 2015*** 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. The writing was OK, and the MC's Jamie and Kage were polar opposites really, but that usually makes for an interesting story. Kage ends up practically stalking Jamie as a tiger does it's prey, and well, I'm not giving the storyline away, but suffice to say that there is a huge row at the end of the story and a cliffie...not my favourite way to end a story, but it keeps the interest going into the next book of the trilogy. I need to find out what Kage's deal is...why he's so angry, why he spaces out sometimes AND if they're both going to apologise to each other for what happened at the end of book 1...

At last an amazing male fiction
It's about time somebody wrote a male adult fiction which has a credible storyline with depth of characters who really have you liking, disliking, and feeling for throughout the whole book. Don't start listening to this book if you don't have a clear schedule otherwise you'll find yourself cancelling appointments just to finish the book! 100% admiration and respect for the author absolutely superb writing thank you!

Sexy, dark and addicting
This was exactly the book I wanted to read, the sort of book I'm always in search for even when I didn't know what exactly what I was searching for. The quality of the writing lifted this story to something really special. I felt as if this book had been written by the main character himself, I believed every second of it. Incredibly engaging, icredibly sexy and an amazing performance of the narrator.

Wow m/m intimacy
Hot to say the least but many ups and downs throughout and not the happy ending we all crave, beautifully written and narrated and would be five stars if it was a happy ending, but thats me.

An unexpectedly fab story!
The narrator is one of the best I have listened to.
The storyline is somewhat different from what I usually read/listen to and I actually bought this book by mistake but I am so glad I did.
It was lovely to read a heartfelt, not gratuitous relationship between two men.
Just great reading - listening. Thank you. X

Not for male readers
The narration was absolutely superb. But that was all I liked.
This book has had me on a rollercoaster since I finished it, trying to decide how much I hate it. I've decided I don't hate it as much as I originally thought when I first finished it, but I still strongly dislike it. If I think of it as a series where these two end up together I'm horrified, but as a stand alone, it's not as terrible.
Firstly, this wasn't romance, it was abuse. And if I think of them getting back together after this, I hate this book so much I want to shoot it. Messages like: "I have to love him enough to endure the pain" or "he's done so much for me, he's justified in treating me terribly when I upset him" are dangerous and toxic. But if I read it as a stand alone tragedy, it's not as terrible. It ends so badly, the message is actually pretty healthy: don't trust violent guys who want to hurt you, because they'll use you and abuse you. It's not a cliffhanger, it's the best possible way a relationship like this can go (Jamie's still alive at the end! It could have gone much worse). So yes, as a tragic stand alone, it's tolerable.
However, even without the abuse, this story had problems. It wasn't m/m. It was f/m without female body parts, and written for a female audience. Jamie didn't think like a 20 year old frat-boy/sports-guy at all. At the start, kinda, but then the story takes a rapid turn. Jamie is meant to be an athlete whose spent 3yrs in a frat, but he reads like an ignorant teenage country girl on her first visit to the big city. No way would a frat guy, or any guy whose been part of a sports team, gush about another man and not know how it's gonna sound. Also, no matter how deep Jamie's denial goes, no way would he not freak out a little when he realises he's crushing on his male MMA fighting boss. Actually, he's gonna freak out more because of the denial. And he's gonna freak out about what will happen when he returns to the frat. The Jamie at the start of this book was pretty well written, and I'd looked forward to seeing where the story went. His pride being bruised when he met a real fighter for the first time, the hero worship, was an awesome setup for a story about a younger man with a MMA fighter. Instead, the story turned into a hetero story of abuse, edited slightly to be barely superficially called m/m.
So, no, I didn't enjoy it. This was a book written by a woman, for women, about a relationship gone wrong. And that's not the kind of story I'm interested in reading.

Misogynistic and Racist as hell. Trash,
"She tweaked my protective instincts like no one ever had. That is until she opened her mouth. You see, Lela's mother had married a Mexican man when Lela was very young, and she'd grown up on the Latin side of town. Her tough Barrio accent opposed her delicate Aryan appearance to a comical extent. She looked like she needed protecting, but she sounded like she might cut you if you rubbed her the wrong way."
This is in literally the first couple of minutes of the book. What is up with all these LGBTQ+ stories featuring so many instances of misogyny and blatant racism? Do better.

A perfect slow-burn m/m sports romance
When college student Jamie Atwood covers a mixed martial arts competition for a journalism assignment, he doesn’t expect to meet the mysterious MMA fighter, Michael Kage, let alone be offered a summer internship as Kage’s publicist. Everyone always raves about this series and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed everything Maris Black has written so I knew I’d love this. The story is told from Jamie’s POV and charts his journey from ‘straight boy on the rebound’ to ‘gay for you’ as he learns to master the role of a publicist. Compared to the SSU books, there’s surprisingly little melodrama until the final scenes, just an increasingly evolving intense relationship. Kage remains enigmatic throughout - he is compellingly powerful and tender as he pursues Jamie - but there’s lots left uncovered by the end time we reach the cliffhanger ending. JF Harding narrates perfectly, so much so that I was totally engrossed in the story and forgot he was there - he never puts a foot wrong.

This is an amazing trilogy!
Warning: you will not be able to stop reading until you’ve finished all three books.
Kage is an extraordinary character. He is perfectly imperfect. He is troubled yet demonstrates an enviable strength. He is true alpha perfection.
This is a well developed MMA/mob/MM storyline with a 5 ⭐️ hotness level. 🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Top this off with A grade narration by JF Harding.
A must read!!!
