Story
People mistakenly think that they need to eat less and exercise more to create a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. This is not how diet and exercise helps with weight loss. A well-formulated keto-adapted diet along with proper exercise builds muscle and muscle builds mitochondria. It is in the mitochondria where fat is oxidized so you can keep your cells and liver insulin sensitized. Weight loss and health is about healthy mitochondria and about controlling hormones and specifically insulin.

Story
Leading health blogger Jimmy Moore and researcher and internist Dr. Eric C. Westman join forces again to explain the powerful therapeutic effects of a ketogenic diet—one that combines a customized carbohydrate restriction, moderation of protein intake, and real food-based fats—which is emerging in the scientific literature as a means for improving a wide range of diseases, from Type 2 diabetes to Alzheimer's and more. Simply eating a low-carb diet alone isn't enough, and Moore and Westman tell you why. Have you looked at a low-carb diet simply as a means to lose weight? What if you learned that combining a low-carb nutritional approach with a high fat intake produces a powerful therapeutic effect on a wide variety of health conditions that most people think requires medication to control? That’s what Keto Clarity is all about. Jimmy Moore, a leading low-carb diet blogger and podcaster, has reunited with his Cholesterol Clarity co-author Dr. Eric C. Westman, a practicing internist and low-carb diet researcher, to bring you the crystal-clear information you need to understand what a ketogenic diet is and why it may be the missing element in your pursuit of optimal health. This book includes exclusive interviews from twenty of the world's foremost authorities from various fields bringing their depth of expertise and experience using this nutritional approach. Moore and Westman explain why ketosis is normal and how this nutritional approach is being used therapeutically by many medical professionals. You will find a step-by-step guide to help you produce more ketones and track your progress, real life success stories, and more. The solid evidence for nutritional ketosis in dealing with many of the chronic health problems of our day is presented, including but not limited to: epilepsy, Type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, polycystic ovarian syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome.

Publisher's Summary
Are you eating enough fat? Yes, fat. Despite what generations of health science has beaten into us over the last 50 years or so, humans thrive on high-fat, low-carb diets. Millions of people around the world have discovered that a ketogenic lifestyle is the key to weight loss, disease prevention and intervention, and a more vibrant life, along with a slimmer waistline, elimination of cravings, and endless energy.
Gone are the days when counting calories or points was seen as the path to better health. Craig and Maria Emmerich have teamed up to create an audiobook that digs deep into the science of ketogenic dieting, explaining how it can cure or control dozens of diseases and how it is fueling a new breed of athlete. All this is done in an easy-to-understand way that makes the complicated science much more approachable.
Keto is the definitive guide to the ketogenic lifestyle. You will learn how you can beat cancer, obesity, metabolic syndrome, coronary artery disease, high cholesterol, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, ADHD, anxiety, and depression into submission by making some simple yet impactful changes to your diet.
You'll learn:
- How cholesterol and diabetes medications could very well be making you sicker rather than healthier.
- How generations of bad advice and advice designed to sell sugar, not health, has killed millions of people who blindly trusted the medical establishment and, worse still, the government to tell them the truth.
- How reductions in fat consumption have led to a tripling of diabetes patients, sharp increases in the number of cancer patients, increases in ADHD, and a meteoric rise in heart disease rates. If we are to assume that eliminating fat from our diets is the key to good health, why then are more and more people who’ve followed this advice dying from food-related diseases?
- How inflammation is at the root of many diseases, and how modern diets that are rife with sugar, carbs, and omega-6 oils are sending us to early graves.
- How hormones control mood swings, sex drive, blood sugar levels, muscle tone, fat-burning ability, metabolism, the immune system, and much more - and how adopting a ketogenic lifestyle will change your waistline and your life!
- How you can build muscle and perform your best on a low-carb, high-fat diet. No, we're not making that up!

best book on keto lifestyle
I have this book in print as well as this audio version. I must say, it is the absolute best book on the keto lifestyle I have read. Craig and Maria Emmerich are very knowledgable and are able to convey their knowledge in a way that is easy to understand and implement. The information is well-researched and current.
I appreciate that the authors, themselves, narrate the book. It is well done!

Amazing information. HORRIBLE narration
This book truly has everything you need to know about a ketogenic diet and how and why it works. There's a ton of science, without being science-y that explains how to go about adapting a keto lifestyle. Maria and Craig Emmerich, although at times, a bit fanatical about keto, provide a wealth of information in this book. I do recommend however, that you READ the book. Craig Emmerich narrates this audiobook and it just isn't...good. There are awkward pauses in the middle of sentences and the narration is completely flat and monotone. These leading experts, while I am sure delightful human beings, just really (really!) should have hired someone to record this audiobook. Please don't let the terrible narration deter you from the information that is being presented. Just go get the book!

Buy the paperback book… NOT the audiobook! PAINFUL to listen to😣
I am an auditory learner so I thought it would be great to get the audiobook to listen to as I read along in the paper back... boy was I wrong. Sadly, Craig Emmerich is not the best person to narrate this book. Which is totally heartbreaking, because he is an extremely intelligent man with a wealth of knowledge to pass along. However, I much would’ve preferred to hear more from Maria. Do yourself a favor and buy the book in paperback. It’s a great book with a wealth of knowledge. Just don’t waste your money on the audiobook

Repetitive, slow reader, restrictive plan
I've been researching a variety of ketogenic cookbooks and plans for some time and they usually follow similar patterns. This one adds extra levels of restriction in order to achieve ketosis, and it feels very unrealistic. It's hard to follow the reader because he mispronounces some words, rushes through some topics, and frequently reads so slowly I had to have the speed up at 1.5 in order to not just give up listening. Even at that speed there are points where he's still very slow and I think if the 2x speed didn't make people sound like chipmunks I would listen at that rate and it might be a normal reading speed. It's too erratic. There are supplement and meals adjustments for various different illness, which is great, but some of the information is repetitive and should have been attached as a PDF for download. I have two hours yet to listen and have not yet found any specific meal plans or recipes (which would also be better as PDF anyway). I don't think I can finish this book.

Could not stomach the narration
I love Maria Emmerich. Her book, Keto-Adapted, was life changing for me! I learned so much useful information that has benefited my life from the wonderful information she has shared.
I was so excited about this new book, Keto, but I honestly could not make myself get past Chapter 2. Craig's narration was just so hard to stomach. I've gritted my teeth and got through other Audible's that had not so great narration but this was just too much. Can't do it...

Not For Me
I thought about going all in on Keto before listening to this audio book, After listening to this book I no longer have that desire. Maria mentions in the book that Craig's reading often puts her to sleep. It had the same effect on me even though I heard ducks throughout the book. Quack, Quack. I enjoyed the "Obesity Code" or "Why We Get Fat" much better than this.

The ONLY Keto book you need to own
I now own six of Maria Emmerich's books. I own her latest book "KETO" in both the physical and audible forms. I think Craig Emmerich did a fantastic job narrating.
Both Craig and Maria have an infectious passion for teaching Keto as a life style of eating that's not just for losing weight. I lost 16lbs on my first round of the 30 day cleanse last year and I'm looking forward to a second round incorporating her latest Dairy Free Keto book to shake things up a bit. I absolutely trust Maria's knowledge regarding a safe, easy to follow ketogentic way of eating resulting in a life style of eating that rewards you with more than instant gratification; I haven't felt this good since I was.... well never really!

best thing I've ever done is read this book! it doesn't just cover keto it covers a mass amount about the human body, hormones, liver , diseases, intimiting fasting, cold shower therapy. well worth my 1 credit. I'm excited to read it again.

Narration is killing me
The information is good, but this book is hard to listen to. The narration is slow and his voice is lacking any character or enthusiasm. It's like he is reading the book for the first time and he can't follow the story.

Hard Going
I am really struggling to get through this audiobook. I had the book from the library and it was super interesting and I wanted the audiobook to listen to on the go but ......... it ....... is ....... so .........hard ........ t listen to the narrator. It is lifeless and uninteresting and I am struggling to continue and I am only up to chapter 4. I was so looking forward to this.

Good info but hard to follow with this narrator.
I am very interested in this topic but the monotone, slow narration is boring and hard to listen to without dozing off.
