Publisher's Summary

If you want a successful treatment of your kidney disease whether you are in stage 1 or stage 5, then keep reading the advice of Dr. Robert Porter and Dr. Elizabeth Torres.

The kidneys are much more than a pair of organs that create urine. These two powerhouses alter all of the vitamin D we consume and absorb, synthesizing it so that it is made bioavailable to our cells.

The kidneys filter all of our blood, removing toxins and waste before discarding of it in the urine. They manage our fluid and mineral levels so that we do not become overburdened with too much of these necessities.

In this book, Dr. Robert Porter will bring you all the knowledge you need about your kidneys, chronic kidney disease, and how to gain a better life. Not only that, but, he will also share some of the newest treatments now available and those that are currently being studied to be on the market in the future.

Along with the knowledge imparted by Dr. Porter, you can also gain some amazing recipes created by Dr. Elizabeth Torres (dietitian specialized in renal diet). By faithfully using these recipes, you can discover a healthy kidney disease diet that is full of flavor and nutrition, which will help to halt your kidney disease in its tracks and improve your overall health.

If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, this diet can help you in even more ways, as it has been formulated in a way to help all three of these common conditions.

In this book, you will find:

  • Details on the power of the human kidneys, including the ability to synthesize vitamin D, remove toxins from the blood, manage fluid and mineral levels, and produce urine
  • How chronic kidney disease impacts kidneys, affecting their daily functioning and causing increased damage over time
  • How inflammation affects your kidney health, both for better and worse
  • Details of mineral overload, how it’s caused, its effects, and how to avoid it
  • The dangers of renal metabolic acidosis
  • The five stages of chronic kidney disease and how each one affects your health differently
  • How protein impacts your kidney health, and what this means for those with kidney disease
  • Details on how more than just your diet affects your kidney health, it is your full lifestyle
  • Offering hope with new cures, therapies, and medications made recently available and those that are still in the research stage
  • How to successfully treat your kidney disease, whether you are in stage one or stage five
  • Delicious and easy recipes to enjoy on the kidney disease diet
  • And more...

Even people who have already developed kidney failure can benefit from this diet, as it can decrease mortality risks.

"No longer do you have to simply wait for your kidney health to deteriorate; you can take the steps for better health and a better life today.” (Dr. Elizabeth Torres and Dr. Robert Porter)

I was disappointed to learn most of the recipes are in a different book.

I feel this book is helpful if you are just beginning your research on kidney disease. The information is at a broad level. While it’s helpful to learn how the kidneys work, I would have liked the book to be richer and more detailed in the second half. I wish the description pointed out it was for newbies to this subject.

The performance was so robotic. If you are listening to this book, chances are it’s not for fun. So the voice could have been more human and less like a male Siri.

And lastly, from the description, I thought this book would have more food information and more recipes. It wasn’t until I got to that section, that the announcer said to reference their other books for more than this handful of basic recipes. So I am a bit disappointed.
