Publisher's Summary

Two sisters. One brutal murder. A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself....

A new series from the number one New York Times best-selling author of Stalking Jack the Ripper.

Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe - witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family's renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin...desecrated beyond belief.

Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister's killer and to seek vengeance at any cost - even if it means using dark magic that's been long forbidden.

Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked-princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia's side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women's murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems....

Amazing!

What a wonderfully crafted story that sweeps you in right from the start and keeps you listening till the very last word. The world is so detailed in its description that it seems as though you are truly there, and the banter between Wrath and Emilia is hilariou. The development of their relationship is believable, with just the right amount of tension and attraction -- perfectly paced. I can't wait for the sequel!

Kingdom of the wicked

It's been a long time since I have been fully captured by a story but this had me gripped. The narration was perfect, looking forward to part 2.

couldn't tolerate the smug ignorance

I quite like the odd as a change but both story and narrator make stupidity a virtue. not for me

A decent mystery, but not great romance.

Unexpectedly rich and detailed and lush in its descriptions. The world building is above par. Characters interesting. The hunt for the killer complex but becomes convoluted and unbelievable once you mix in the sub par and totally predictable romance. What would have been an amazing book becomes cringeworthy YA drivel. Unless the main love interest dies in the next book I'm not buying.

The performance was good but if you start out as excited and shouty and fast, where do you have to go when the chase scene starts?

I am so pleased to have come across this book... I already can’t wait for the next one! It’s not often you come across a book that ticks all the boxes.. this has you gripped from the get go and I was so disappointed that it ended. 10/10

Boring

This isn’t keeping my attention. The story is cheesy and repetitive and far-fetched and a bit silly actually. I am going to power through only because I always force myself to finish a story.

Kingdom of the wicked

Desperately hoping there is going to be more. The story was amazing and the way the narrator told the story was beautiful and brought the story to life. She has one of those voice like Morgan freeman or Peter Dinklage just someone who you could list to all day

I'm Questioning Why I Liked This Book

The Kingdom of the Wicked is one of those books where you find numerous plot holes, loose ends, obvious villains, and a female lead who makes a lot of eye-brow-raising choices. However, despite all this, you cannot stop listening because the writing style is captivating, the narrator is engaging, and the world concept holds enough mystery that you need answers. I honestly questioned my personal taste in books once I finished it, but loved it nonetheless.

Fantasy novel or cookbook?

If I had $1 for everytime the word "cornicello" was said... Narrator was constantly at this high pitched / shakey tone. No power or interest in any of the characters. couldn't decide if I was listening to a Fantasy or a cookbook? overused cooking terms without any direct link. Such a slow paced novel, totally a miss for me.

Loved this

Absolutely loved this, the narrator has a beautiful voice and the accent really set up the scene for me.
The story was immediately intriguing, and kept my attention. Binged it in a few days. Have preordered book 2, high hopes for that.
If you love a little bit of murder mystery mixed with magic and secrets, this is a great choice.

Wait for book 2

Overall the plot book is extremely generic and predictable. Hopefully book 2 (when released) will redeem the series.

Where is the devil

Firstly I found parts of this book hard to get into and relate, but I have to say I wanted to keep going, the good parts and the narrator kept me going and I would like to continue onto the next.
I think it’s when the author repeats the story over and over the it becomes taxing.
The narrator did a really good job and her Italian was excellent.
Both narrator Ana author are new to me.

Terrible plot

I gave up at the point when Emilia took a month after her twin’s murder to REMEMBER that her sister (with whom they shared a room) had a diary for all the things, a diary she herself had sneaked peaks at previously. Plus the performance was also annoying, weird intonation and emphasis.

i really enjoyed this book

I loved the olde world magic & setting this story provoked, with ancient sayings, grimoires, witches & demons. Narrator was excellent. Cant wait for book 2.

Save your credit

Narrator has a fabulous voice which is probably why I made it to Chapter 30 before giving up. The story drags on and on and nothing ever really happens.

Italian Food and Magic.

The plot of this story is a slow burn mystery with many moments of tension and excitement.

Amelia grows as the protagonist throughout the book, making her more likeable the further you delve. Aside from small tastes of her cooking ability, the plot manoeuvres its protagonist through some pretty tight spaces and intriguing situations. Plus, the tricky relationship between Amelia and a Prince of Hell add some extra amusement and excitement between action.

I’d recommend this book to readers who can handle slow burn and abrupt situational changes. It’s not as whimsical as YA readers may be used to but has a grit that is worth getting into.

The emotions are captured well by Maniscalco and read beautifully by Calin.
