Publisher's Summary

Gillian Flynn says, "Karin Slaughter is simply one of the best thriller writers working today."

Saturday night dates at the skating rink have been a tradition in the small southern town of Heartsdale for as long as anyone can remember, but when a teenage quarrel explodes into a deadly shoot-out, Sara Linton - the town's pediatrician and medical examiner - finds herself entangled in a terrible tragedy.

What seemed at first to be a horrific but individual catastrophe proves to have wider implications. The autopsy reveals evidence of long-term abuse, of ritualistic self -mutilation, but when Sara and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver start to investigate, they are frustrated at every turn.

The children surrounding the victim close ranks. The families turn their backs. Then a young girl is abducted, and it becomes clear that the first death is linked to an even more brutal crime, one far more shocking than anyone could have imagined. Meanwhile, detective Lena Adams, still recovering from her sister's death and her own brutal attack, finds herself drawn to a young man who might hold the answers. But unless Lena, Sara, and Jeffrey can uncover the deadly secrets the children hide, it's going to happen again...

Thrilling and Disturbing

Hard to believe sickening crimes like this happen every day. I stayed up all night to finish it. I definitely recommend the Grant County series to graffic crime enthusiasts. I will definitely keep adding to my Karin Slaughter library.

The narrator did a great job, as usual. Especially the hospital scene where Lena goes into detail about what horrors happened to her in the last book (read the full series in order!).

Gruesome

Okay, maybe it's just me but this book was a little over the top with twisted and not enough meat and potatoes to offset it. I love Karin Slaughters writing but this one had some female characters that I found indecisive and feeble, not at all what I am used to from her. The last quarter of the book really picked up and I can't wait to get to the next in this series. Warning: this story is not for anyone that can not handle revolting, despicable people that commit horrific crimes against children. I hope there is a special place in hell for these folks. As always, Kathleen Early did an excellent job narrating.

Karin Slaughter is terrific

I have read 4 of Karin's books and love each one; Kisscut is no exception. The story held my attention from beginning to end; its suspense made me keep sneaking in a few minutes while in the car, shopping, cooking dinner, every chance I got.

I also thought Kathleen Early was excellent. She portrayed the various characters with skill and acting prowess.

I am so looking forward to my next listen of Karin's work from my wish list.

Ending??????

I'm intentionally keeping this review short and to the point. It's dificult to review this book without giving away the plot. I'll just say it kept my attention, (although I found most of the characters lacking depth) but the ending wasn't there... it just piddled out....... eh......
Can't say that I would recommend this unless you have nothing left to read.

Caution: Sensitive Subject Matter

This book is very well written although extremely disturbing. It is a sad thing to read what some people subject children to in this world! Bravo to Karin Slaughter for putting the facts out there. This will allow sane people to be made aware of what goes on in the craziness of a world we now live in!

Very good

This was a really good book. I gave it four stars because the ending was just okay. The narrator was so good. Definitely one of the better narrators that I've heard.

My senses feel assaulted

Would you try another book from Karin Slaughter and/or Kathleen Early?

No. Two is more than enough. I bought these two together hoping to find another series I like. I am a fan of Patricia Cornwell, Thomas Harris, John Sandford, etc., and there is no way to compare this book to their work.

What could Karin Slaughter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The shock value of the case of child molestation and the tie in with the African practice of genital mutilation was ridiculous. I felt assaulted in every chapter with disbelief. There are no delineated, definite qualities in the characters to make you want to know them better at all. The character of Lena was especially strained. She takes up this novel FOUR MONTHS after the trauma inflicted on this individual in the first book? No way. Just an unbelievable plot line, even for fiction.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kathleen Early’s performances?

No.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The fact the two ex's got back together was luke warm. No.

Any additional comments?

The last book I will ever buy by this author and this narrator.

Awesome Story Telling

Karen is an excellent mystery writer and this book is just another example of her mastery skills. This storyline was captivating and had me wanting to hear more and more. I really enjoyed this book and it's been awhile since I've been so engrossed in a story.

Rape & child mutilation. UGH.

Add to that, repeated paragraphs from the first book to remind me of "backstory". I found the start to the book annoying and have decided not to finish it and return it. I've read the teasers for many of the other books in this series, and am not going to bother with any others. Or any others from this author.

Great Series

I love the Grant County series and this is my second visit to these stories since I read them in the early 2000s.
Slaughter is a great writer and really makes you care about the characters. Audio version is good also, I love the southern drawl from the narrator. Only criticism if any is that in the moments you'd read as full of suspense, she doesn't have any real change to her tone. It's all a bit one level. Which is odd because she's great at emphasising when a character is raising their voice etc.

Trite.

Cliched and predictable. Dreadful dialogue and two dimensional characters. Avoid this or lose precious time in your life.

Not my favourite but still good

Good book. Wasn't keen on the narrator. Irked me how much emphasis she put in pronouncing the words with 'wh' in them.

Bit confronting but a great story

Love these books and love Sarah Linton. This story was a bit confronting as a mother but the story line kept me hooked. Hopeful for a sequel to this one.
